Hi everyone, I am having a really big problem with my windows. Okay so here is what happened I was having problems accessing websites telling me "error page cannot be displayed etc.." so then I went here .. "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326155" and hoping it would resolve the issue that I'm having. To my disappointmet it did not work... :( So then I tried to talk to Comcast Customer Service about my issue and they did some "ping" here and there, and when they told me to "ping" my system32, cd, etc.. It wouldn't do it... A message will pop up saying .. "Not a valid Win32 application". That's when they told me that System32 is required and that I n…

Computer Error Repair
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 3 replies

Have you ever been working on your computer when you get one of those annoying error messages? The kind that say a serious error has occurred and the program must be shut down. Or, maybe it just shuts down for some unknown reason. Then, when you restart it, it tells you that the program is recovering from a serious error and would like to report this to Microsoft. I am sure we have all seen this, and had it happen to us. So, what can we do about it? Computer error repair is not something we just go in and start changing things. You never want to change anything in your computer unless you know exactly what will happen. You can really mess some stuff up, and migh…

The cursor has a 1 second delay (or pause) at times. Also iTunes and Windows Media Player have the same problem. They will hesitate or pause for 1 second intervals. The same is true when playing a DVD in the internal DVD player. However, when I play a DVD in the external DVD player that is connected to the USB port I have no problem. TIA Dean

XP Restrictions - can't open Control Panel
by Guest Mark Christensen- 4 replies
On one of our XP machines, the user cannot open the control panel (the icon isn't even listed in the Start menu). When he tries to right click on My Computer and selects Properties, a message comes up that says "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system admin." I confirmed this user is an administrator on the company domain by logging on to the local domain as the admin and going to the Users in the Control Panel (yes CP works when logged on as admin on the local domain) How do I remove these restrictions? Thanks. Mark

ROBOCOPY -- force prompt before overwrite?
by Guest Rick- 3 replies
I'm still using good ol' ROBOCOPY v1.95 from years ago. How can I get it to prompt me about overwriting if the source files are in the destination? I know it automatically skips if the files are the same date, and that there are all sorts of switches to not copy if newer, don't copy if older, but I'd like an old-fashioned switch just to say: prompt me no matter what (like the /-Y in XCOPY). Thanks much for any help.

Your network administrator (I guess thats me?) is using group policy (the dumb bit I guess I've inadvertently clicked somewhere along the line) to control these settings. How do I undo this?

by Guest W. Watson- 6 replies

I'd like to add an entry to All Programs, so that I can group several programs together. How can this be done? Right-click doesn't seem to provide a way. For example, I want a category called Adobe, so that I can have all my Adobe programs listed under it. -- Wayne Watson (Nevada City, CA) Web Page: <speckledwithStars.net>

Warning Not to Delete What Seems Like an Empty Menu in All Programsof Start
by Guest W. Watson- 2 replies
Somehow I have two HP StartUp folders in All Programs under the Start Menu. One is empty, but the other has four reasonable entries. If I try to remove the entry, it gives me an OK dialog that says HP Startup is a Window system folder and is required for Window to run properly. It cannot be deleted. I click OK, of course. The other folder is for programs related to my HP 6100 all-in-one printer. -- Wayne Watson (Nevada City, CA) Web Page: <speckledwithStars.net>

I read each reply given on how to rid my pc from this problem. I ran regedit.exe, then HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main..... at this point I have two files: Default Feeds - containing: {2D90FCA5-46D8-48B4-AE7C-ODD5A9ECAB8A}, {6ACA2234-7009-4EOB-AB59-8CB98D3CD7AD}, {DDB93AAD-OCFB-4ACB-83FD-EDFA5B6F6DC4} FeatureControl - containing: FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN. In this folder is a subfolder entitled "Settings." I have looked thoroughly through each of these folders and I do not see the "Window Title - MonaRonaDona." What should I do now? Thanks in advance, Mary

since yesterday the installer has tried to load the STDRET.msi file package for no apparent reason. A box pops up saying while Windows configures MS Office XP Standard. It then says that the file is on Office CD and to load CD. My copy was preloaded. It then give an error message 1706 setup cannot find file. I cannot find this installer package anywhere on my system, there are no msi packages waiting. I also turn off windows installer it has no effect. I even did a system restore to an earlier time, no help. I have never experienced anything like this. It deactivated my MS Word shortcut. I have come accross this a couple of times that when you use windows search facility to find files from a network share the search results come back with nothing to be found. If you manually search for these files they are present. I understand that Win XP has a time out so if the data store doesn't respond within a time period Windows returnes a nothing found screen. This only happens from one of our remote sites where the network connection to the main site is poor at best. I did find a Microsoft Knowldgebase article on how to fix this, but I can't find it again, is there anyone out there that can help me please? Cheers Bryn
