Bootable CD disk does not work in DVD drive
by Guest Jack- 12 replies

Hello, Many years ago I created a bootable CD which pretends to be A:\ drive at the bootup (it boots to A:\ prompt). It was working great for all these years. Now, I have a new computer with DVD drive (DVD +/-RW / CD-R/W) in it and my CD is completely ignored at bootup. I wonder what can be the reason. Other CD bootable disks (vide Windows installation disk) work OK. Jack

Reinstalling XP OEM on same HW
by Guest Gustav W- 4 replies

Hello, I can find several related issues posted here but none exactly matching my question so here goes. My question is in short: Can I use the license key on the side of my PC and reinstall a clean XP OEM on the same PC without using the rescuediscs? I do not own a XP OEM CD, only rescue discs! The long version is below: I have a Compaq/HP preinstalled OEM win XP that came with 6 rescue discs. After approx 4 years the system is so slow and also virus attacked and needed a clean install. I used the rescuediscs and after several upgrades and reboots all security updates etc was updated. Appart from that the resue discs comes with old SW and out…

When I go to a site, for example, WebMD, what does the site know about me by my logging on to the site? It's a question of privacy for example if I'm asking a medical question. In general when I log onto a website what do they know about me what can they determine from the logon?

Genunuine Advantage Problem
by Guest Dave Dewire- 1 reply

I now there is a forum for Genunuine Advantage but I posted there and they suggested I post my issue here. Im seeing a problem with Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications that I just cant explain. Bascially for the last two months my orgnaization has been seeing hundreds (atleast 300 that I know of, problem many more) of WXP PCs coming up with non-genuine messages. To be clear, I am 100% certain our VLK is still valid. Running Genuine Advantage diagnostics passes every test and going out to the Genuine Advantage validation site tells me I am valid which begs the question on why this happened to begin with. As of yesterday it was still happening…

File Synchronize Problem
by Guest Jerry- 0 replies
A computer icon in my system tray has a blinking yellow triangle with a black exclamation point. The associated message says "Offline changes not synchronized." I've tried to synchonize several times with no luck. When I delete both the temporary offline (file) versions and the versions that are always available offline (in an attempt to fix the file synchronization problem), I get an "Offline Files" pop-up that says "Cannot delete '\\C003-00146\jludke\PowerPoint\Rotary 6-7-200~RF1387f25.TMP'" because "The system cannot find the file specified. I've looked everywhere, and this file doesn't exist (hence the system can't synchronize). I believe the …

Windows XP Pro WPA2
by Guest Jim- 10 replies

I'm helping a friend who's having difficulty gettting WPA2 WiFi security to work on his Windows XP Pro Japanese version. He doesn't have WPA2 selection on his Windows Wireless Network Connection. The only options available are Open, WEP and WPA (I can't remember exactly). There is no WPA2 selection. I downloaded KB893357 Japanese version. Installed the patch. Restarted the PC. I then went back to WiFi settings. There's no WPA2 entry there. I did exactly the same patching on my XP Home English version. I can see WPA2 option in Windows Wireless Network drop down box after the patch is intalled (WPA2 doesn't exist without KB893357). Btw, he's using Buffal…

Win XP Home machine in a SBS 2003 office
by Guest Jordon- 4 replies

I have a single computer running Windows XP Home in an office of XP Pro boxes hooked to a SBS 2003 server. The only purpose for this computer was to gather GPS data from company trucks using RF. I get the data remotely using a script in a remote control program that connects in the middle of the night. The problems started when the boss asked me to also get billing data, and that data sits on the server. No problem connecting to the server. No problem mapping a drive letter to the folder where the billing data sits. No problems transferring the data manually. But after a period of inactivity, say for a few hours, the XP Home machine seems to log out and lose…

Hello! I routinely have several windows and programs open thought out the day and what I have discovered is that after a while I have to many windows open and I can't open anymore. What happens after I reach this state is that the right click context won't open, clicking ctrl alt del does nothing and trying to open any program or window like IE or notepad does nothing. To fix the problem I have to close a window or two. Sometimes I might have as few a 6 window/programs open at the time when this happens. These are the programs I usually have open throughout the day Outlook, FrontPage, several Internet Explorer windows and notepad. Sometimes I will…

Batch printing from WIndows Explorer...
by Guest Brad Pears- 2 replies

Not sure where to look for a resolution to this one... Our designers use the Windows Explorer ability of selecting multiple .pdf files they have created then right-click and select the 'Print' option - which then is supposed to print each of the documents that was highlited. This saves a toin of time over opening each .pdf file individually and printing it. It had been working fine but recently one of the designers came to me and mentioned that sometimes this works and sometimes it does not. When it does not, he means that it will print maybe one or two of the drawings but not the rest. I am not even sure where to begin looking for a solution to this …
