We are a company wich regular install Windows Xp or downgrade Vista Bussiness pc's / laptops to Windows Xp professional. The idea wich i had was creating an unattended installation DVD with an option menu etc. The problem is this cd is pre-configured with a specific XP installation key. Does Microsoft allow to let me install every pc with this DVD and use it as a legal Windows Xp? Because a Windows Xp Prof. Sp1 serial number does not work on a Windows Xp Prof. Sp2 cd and i don't want to make different cd's. I want to install a pc completely automatic with the application i select. Anyone an idea how about the licenses work in this case?

Disconnected Network Drive
by Guest HeyBub- 1 reply

XP Pro, SP2 After boot, My Computer shows 4 drives as "Disconnected Network Drive"s. This is a fairly recent syndrome. Clicking on the drive brings up the directory and My Computer then shows the drives as connected. SOME programs, when trying to access these "disconnected" drives function normally. Other programs believe the disconnect status and refuse to even try. After connecting, sometime during the day the "Disconnected" status returns. Removing the drives, then re-mapping does not remedy the problem. Of course the mappings are marked "reconnect at logon." There is a single user who never logs off. This oddity does not appear on other X…

Hello, I have a situation where a customer of ours has a crashed XP system and he cannot find the media or key. Is there a way to extract the key (keyfinder) from the data that is on the disk, by putting that disk in another system? Once he has the key we can re-install with OEM media. -- Thanks, Dan

Hard disk upgrade?

Hello everyone, I have a laptop with OEM Windows XP installed. I have detected some faults in the hard drive, so I decided to buy a new one. I was wondering if I could transfer the HDD image to the new disk and boot Windows from it, without running into any license issues. Will Windows complain if the system hard drive gets changed? Will I have to go through activation again? Do I need anything other than the product key? Thanks in advance for any input! Petko

"For testing purpose only" for a final version ? How can I be sure I am not using a beta version? Hi, this morning I had a message at the bottom right of my Windows XP SP2 that was indicating "'For Testing Purposes Only' " I am quite surprised as I think I have a final version of Windows (It is a master issued by my company). It is quite strange enough as I have resolved the problem like if I was using a beta version (I removed two registry keys : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\CA\Certificates\FEE449EE0E3965A5246F000E87FDE2A065FD89D4] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\ROOT\Certificates\2BD63D28D7BCD0E…

Shortcut Key for Slideshow?
by Guest Underlying_Logic- 0 replies

Hello, My first post. I am wondering if there is a shortcut key to start the slide show, when I am in a pictures-folder? I know that I can simply click the "slideshow" option on the left-side, by mousing over to it. But I'd like to have a quick-key to just rapidly start it during presentations, without my fingers having to leave the keyboard each time. - Sincerly, "Underlying_Logic"

unusual behavior
by Guest John L.- 3 replies

After receiving no response on windowsxp.network_web newsgroup, I turn to you. I am running XP SP2. Restarting my puter the normal way only results in the puter hanging at the "Windows is now shutting down" screen and has to be cold-started to get it to reboot. Very frustrating. But when I open my internet connection properties window, click on the disable button, my computer restarts. Or right-click the connection icon in notification area, choose disable and my computer restarts. This is not a "once-in-a-while" problem. It is consistent. As a matter of fact, this is the fastest way to reboot my puter but not the way it was intended. Disabling traffic is…

An IDE 2nd hard drive with a DVD Burner on a shared cable. The OS is on the SATA drive © and has failed to boot (after a normal shut down). So far the following has been tried : 1. Booting from the CD and attempts to use the repair console. (Stuck in "examining C") 2. Installing a fresh WinXP on the 2nd hard drive with the SATA disconnected. (successful) 3. Boot with original SATA connected. (Failed - PC just stops booting) 4. Boot with SATA not conn…
