by Guest Searcher7- 12 replies

I've been attempting to save an eBay auction page of an auction I won using "Web Archive, single file(*.mht)". It gets to about 13% complete, and then I get the error box "This webpage could not be saved". Can anyone tell me what may be the problem and what to do from here? Thanks a lot. by Guest klafert- 3 replies

I have windows 2003 server in a domain. I have Windows XP Pro and I have all the printers shared out. I can see them in the directory. All printers are connected to a workstation and no we aren't going to connect them to the server. When I tried to connect a workstation to a shared printer it pops up and wants me to log on. I have added the users to eacht workstation (actually 2 for now as test) and it won't accept the user id. if I am correct it shouldn't be popping up and asking me to log at all. I have done this serveral times in my sleep and never had this problem. I am asumming cause it is a domain? ???

Disk Defragmenter

A picture is worth a thousand words. http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=defragot4.jpg After defragging about 10 times with 2 different defragmenting softwares, the picture is what I'm left with. almost all of the files are in the first half of the hard drive, while there is one file (or a cluster of smaller files) that isn't. I'm wondering if there is a utility out there that will allow me to move this file closer to the rest of them, or at least be able to know what file/files it is (so I can delete them if they aren't important). I'm planning on using the second half of this drive as a Linux partition for work purposes, and I can't repartition t…

Getting a portable USB drive to work
by Guest Steve- 5 replies
Hi; I'm using Windows XP professional, service pack 2 at work. I received a free 1 gig portable "key chain" USB drive as part of a promotional. I've had trouble using it at work. Because of legacy issues we are using every available drive mapping letter but one or two. When I insert this keychain drive it doesn't hook into the drive letters we do have available. My network admin was able to get it to temporarily work by changing a config in windows, but the solution was not permanent. She told me I could mess things up by reconfiguring my set up so she asked me not to do that. Is there anything else I can do to get this keychain drive to work? …

Hi... Windows XP Home - fully up-to-date, trying to install SP3 RC2, but it fails with "INTERNAL ERROR OCCURRED". Any ideas on how I can find out what's causing this? Worst case scenario, I won't install it right now - but how would I then go about having Windows Update NOT recognize this as an update? Thanks! Andy

forcing me to "rename" everything I click on
by Guest former whiz kid- 3 replies
My laptop keyboard got wet but it is all dried out now and I am using an external keyboard until I install the replacement that I've just received. But, something really weird is going on. Every time that I click on any folder or mail folder the system is trying to force me to rename that object. So, I can't open any mail folders, even using the pull-down menus. It's almost like it thinks I have double-clicked. When I pull up a folder, everything even looks greyed out and the folder name in the address bar is "selected". But now I am composing this message and I cannot double-click or drag-and- select. But, everything works normally in Notepad. The amo…

hi, I remember someone posting a place to check PCI\VEN numbers to identify a piece of hardware, but can't find it now... I think it was a file to download as a reference, but my memory is foggy, might have been a URL. I have a Dell GX240 desktop and a yellow exclamation in the device manager under "Other Devices"... number is PCI\VEN_113F&DEV_888C&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_04\4&24B99E98&0&38F0 It's identified as a PCI serial port ???? I have no idea what it is referring to. I can find no reference using google... at least that is helpful, one hit for a driverguide site, but couldn't identify my part.. looked like it might be …

IE blocks content - how to fix?
by Guest AB- 3 replies

I'm running IE 7 under Windows XP home Ed with SP2. On many websites, actually way too often, it gives a blip noise, then a dropdown occurs that says: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors ..." If I want choose the option to display content , nothing happens but the blip & dropdown return. I've tried changing security settings, pop up blocker is turned off, etc. Nothing I do gets rid of this annoyance. It happens on many sites, even ones I know aren't problematic. If anyone can tell how to get rid of this once and forever, I'd really appreciate it!! …

Scheduling ESET scans
by Guest Jeff Barnett- 7 replies
I recently upgraded to ESET NOD32 version 3 and am having a problem. I am hoping that some one out there has found a solution. (Before asking here, I have tried ESET support but I think that they are not informed about their products.) What I want to do is schedule an in-depth scan during off hours. Please note that my computer is in S3 suspend state during off hours. The ESET scheduler is incompetent to wake a sleeping computer. Therefore, I wrote a BAT to run the scan. The BAT wakes the computer, runs the scan, and allows the computer to reenter S3. Unfortunately, there is no way to stash the log of that scan where ESET tools can access and display it.…
