Iexpress package problem
by Guest WILLIAM- 1 reply

I don't know where to post this so I'll start here. I created a simple batch file to run some commands and copy files, and it works great. The folder contains all the files and no matter where I put the folder, the batch file works. So I thought it would be even better if it was packaged as an EXE, I used Iexpress on WindowsXP. When you double click the package the files expand and the first few lines (Title, Color, and IF) I get a bad command or file name. Also I can't set a variable with a really long path statement (C:\documents and settings\userprofile\application data\symantec\ghost) It has to be DOS related, the batch file can no longer run t…

I done this lots of times before but now I seemed to be having a problem. I have a domain. I am sharing all the printers. All printers are connecting to a PC. I went to printers - sharing - gave it a share name. I can see the printers being shared but I can't connect. Oh, Before I forget - I have windows server 2003 to Windows XP Proffessiona. I replaced the workstations, but made no changes to the existing Domain server. I have the everyone account with full permissions. Floppy Drive
by Guest attilathehun1- 3 replies

I installed an almost new floppy drive into this HP pavilion 503n desktop PC, scraped together DIY kinda, and now it's not recognizing any floppy diskettes I put into it. I uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it but still the same problems. I did get it working properly 2 days ago when I went into BIOS and saved the changes, which weren't any, really. I didn't make any changes except put something on Auto, from Disable. I think the USB Legacy. But, then the same thing started happening when I changed the parallel cables from normal to cable select cables, the ones with the small hole near the end connector. Anyways, after doing that and moving the jumper…

by Guest Mark B- 4 replies

Seems Windows, by default, forces a 1 before every area code when dialing through Oulook, for example. Other than adding every US area code into the Area Code Rules of the Dialing Properties and unchecking the Dial 1 Before Area Code box, is there any way to get windows to stop dialing 1 before ALL area codes? Thansk! Mark

Changing shell in WinXP
by Guest eljainc- 2 replies

Hello, Can someone provide some assistance on the modification of the shell in WinXP (either home or Pro)? In our case it is Win XP Pro. We are currently using a batch file to replace explorer.exe as the shell, by the following key in registry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell However, what is happening is that Windows takes 30 seconds to timeout the execution of the batch file before the desktop becomes active. In the batch file, I have to do something like: ping localhost -n 30 > nul to give a 30 second delay. This throws off the timing of everything else in the batch file to run. I spoke with a Microsoft…

If you need a Hijack This log, you will have to guide me through it, sorry. I am using XP Service pack 2. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

If I look at the AutoPlay properties of my dvd reader drive the drop down combobox shows Music files, pictures, mixed content, music cd, video files, dvd movie and hddvd. Should there be something like Install or Setup? When I insert a software installation cd nothing happens. Not sure what would happen with the above kinds of CD since I don't use them. Is there something I can do to make it run installation setup automatically? Thanks in advance

Password Prompt Issue in Standby Mode
by Guest Todd M. Taylor- 0 replies
Even though I have the checkbox checked to "prompt for password when resuming form standby mode", it seems like my PC only prompts for password a few times and then stops prompting (and the checkbox somehow gets unchecked.) Is this a known bug? Is there a work-around? My PC is part of a network so is it possible that there is a group policy that is keeping that checkbox from staying checked? I'd think that if there was that the password checkbox would have been grayed-out or just wouldn't work at all. Sincerely, Todd M. Taylor

Icons not visible
by Guest Yash- 1 reply

Hi, I have Win XP Professional on my PC. Since the past few weeks some icons related to some applications such as Excel, Word, etc. do not appear against the associated files. For instance if I have an Excel file, the Excel icon does not appear when it is listed in the explorer. Instead, it shows the generic icon, the one that appears for an unknown format. The file does open properly in Excel though. I don't remember exactly what I had done before this started happening. The antivirus s/w is running fine. Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling the OS? Is it possible to repair the OS to fix this problem? Thanks, Yash
