WinXP SP3
by Guest Mark- 13 replies

I just installed the SP3 download from Microsoft. (Version 20071130.213629) It hasn't changed anything that I have noticed, except for the headers in IE7. I cannot rearrange the bars (lines) anymore. I notice no difference in boot-up speed. I was completely up-to-date on Microsoft updates, so that might make a difference. Of course, the final SP3 pack may be different. (But for my machine, I doubt it.) Anyway, I enjoyed the 366MB download, it helped me check my d/l speed on my new EVDO set up.

trouble starting windows XP
by Guest Hao- 10 replies

I am using windows xp home edition. I don't turn off my PC often. But after turning it off last night, I have trouble restarting. The windows logo will load but then I'll get a blank screen. Pushing restart button won't do anything. I'll have to physically disconnect the power bar to get out of it. I'll then re-start in the safe mode, which seemed to work. I have tried to do system restore to an earlier date, which seemed to work only sporadically. I had windows updates a couple of days ago, i wonder if that was the cause of the problem. Help please! Thanks Hao

Sync woes
by Guest William Barnes- 0 replies

I have a laptop running xp pro, and a home network that includes ms windows server 2003. About a year ago I set up folder redirection for MyDocuments and implemented it using a Group Policy. Since that time I have restructured my server and the path to the original redirection folder no longer exists. However, on my laptop, even when I'm logged on to the local machine, I find that when I log off it attempts to sync with the invalid path. I've looked through sync manager but don't find any way to delete this task. How do I delete a synchronization task from the offline files synch manager? Thanks Wm

hi, all, Please give me a little help with any idea what might be wrong with my computer. I just got this DELL computer 2 months ago with windows XP installed. I found out yesterday it does not allow me to change the year of the computer time beyond 2005. Once I changed to 2008 and click apply, then it will change back to 2005 again. But I can change the month, day and time, and I can also change the year in Safe Mode. Only when I use normal start, it does not allow me change the year again. Thanks a lot.

IE7 Failure to Close
by Guest Bill Helbron- 5 replies

I posted this recently and was advised to re-post here. Recently, I've noticed that my IE7 window will not close, e.g. when I click on the "X" in the top right part of the window. At other times, it will not close when I left-click on the bar at the bottom of the screen and click "Close". At other times, it will close normally. I don't recall doing anything that would "modify" any of IE7 settings. Suggestions, please! Bill

Hi folks, I'm working at a small business (100 emp) who received a bunch of refurbished Dell computers, and unfortunately they don't seem to be in the best shape. The following is a letter I wrote to customer service (Microsoft), who in turn directed me to several resources including this one. It explains the problem, for the most part. Hopefully, someone will be able to help: "The terminal originally received an error (c000021a) resulting in a blue screen on start up and shut down. I was able to get to the explorer, but it was extremely unstable. When I tried updating the computer on the website, I initially received an error (0xc80003fa) that, w…

Re: Computer shuts down unexpectedly I'm having the same problems. Works just fine when I am working on it, but if I turn my back for a while. it just shuts off. Mine is also a custom build, but it ran just fine for several months prior to starting this behavior. Could Microsoft have put an update on it that does something weird under idle state? Windows Explorer - getting rid of those superfluous + signs?
by Guest Bill in Co.- 7 replies
I've noticed that when you click on windows explorer to see all the files and directories, you always have to wait several seconds for explorer to get it right - i.e., which folders have subfolders, and actually need that + sign, and which don't, so that it (finally) removes the + sign where it should (because there is nothing to expand in those particular folders). Is there a workaround to this, short of (possibly) reverting back to the old Win98SE IE55 browseui and browselc DLL fix? Actually, I'm not even sure I can get away with this in Windows XP. Has anybody tried it? (Some of ya may recall that was a solution to the infamous "file delete ha…
