Printing - So far no has sovled this.
by Guest tek586- 4 replies

I am trying to print to a certain printer which is connected via IP. I can ping the printer, install and reinstall the printer, browse to the printer web interface via IP but I cannot print to it. All of the other computers in the office can print to it except me. I checked my event logs and I did notice this warning: tcp ip has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent tcp connect attempts (event ID 4226). I have been searching all week all over the internet and no one has a solution to this issue. The Microsoft support center is suggesting that there could be a virus on the machine. I ran my antivirus only to rule it out and no…

,.exe error
by Guest Gary- 1 reply
Hi all, We have a problem with a XP machine here where the following error shows it trying to double click on a mapped network drive in My Computer. Windows cannot find ',.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly. To search for a file, click the start button and then click search. To confirm the file is ,.exe [comma].exe. Other mapped network shares can be accessed, and this particular one can be accessed also by right clicking it and selecting Explore or by using Windows Explorer. I have tried disconnecting and remapping the drive and also creating a new directory on the server, and copying the data in there, still the same error. Can a…

Recovering XP after a Disk Failure
by Guest wtw- 3 replies
Continuing from a related thread below. Before posing a question on a new twist in the plot, let me review where I am. My XP PC's local drive failed. I replaced it with a new one. There was a d-drive in the system. When I installed XP, I mistakenly ended up with: c: New drive f:: Now the local drive with it's past folders. 85% full This I did not want. I wanted the new drive to be local and certainly didn't want the drive letter change. From the earlier thread below, it looks difficult to do anything about that. Meanwhile the computer shop where I took the "dead" disk finds it's alive, and quickly copy the contents to an external drive that I provided.…

Strange Window On Desktop
by Guest Mike950- 2 replies
A few days ago a strange window started appearing on my son's computer every time he turns it on and Windows loads to the desktop. Windows loads, his desktop displays, but on the desktop another window displays (taking up about 1/2 the screen) that looks somewhat like the Windows Explorer Window but there is nothing listed in the blank area below the toolbar (where it says "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help"). On the top left, in the blue area above the toolbar, it says "Common". If I select File, the dropdown menu appears and the first item listed at the top of the dropdown menu is ATI CATALYST® Control Center. I'd like to attach a screenshot but I …

Cleaning up the Windows Registry
by Guest Ed Wood- 18 replies

Is there any Microsoft approved Registry Cleaning program available. I can find several programs available on the web, but my Antivirus software guru's say it is not a good idea to run these programs as they might do more damage than good. I would like to remove all of the extraneous registery entries that tend to slow down XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards,

I am looking in computer management, shared folders, shares. Thank you very much, T

I know that I inquired about this awhile back, but I have 2 questions on it. I can allready hear the collective groan out there and a few "OMG's" but when I uninstall 2007 before I update to 2008 where does all the quarantined stuff go? Does it go away with the program or what? And why do you have to uninstall, doesn't the new one just update the old one?

This issue is happening to three computers on my network. One computer I have left the DEP enabled to see if once a fix is found it will solve both p…

Here are the specs. Windows XP Pro SP3 I am tring to setup a scheduled task and I get this error ....the account information could not be set. The specific error is: 0x80070057: The perameter is incorrect. All of the updates for this computer have been done. The permissions for the Administrative Tools tools under the All Users \ Start menu are all correct. The Administrator account and the *User* account both have passwords set. From all my research to date say that the Microsoft hotfix and SP2 should have resolved this issue. The KB refering to this issue seem to have been pulled as the SP should have fixed the prob…

Windows often forgets folder size and view
by Guest Paul- 6 replies
Every now and again, maybe 2 or three times a week, I open a commonly used folder which I have previously set to a specific size, position and view, and find it has been reset to its default size an position, and that the selected view has been lost. It seems to pick a view at random, usually Icon, List or Tiles. Sometime sub-folders of the folder are also affected, sometimes not. What could be the reason for this? Is there anything I can do to stop this happening as it is most annoying to keep loosing the settings. I have already set the BagMRU size to 8000. I am confidant at editing the registry if required. Paul.

by Guest peterhedge- 4 replies

Have been struggling for months with MS Paint opening painfully slowly. If I open now it takes at least 10 minutes to open hard drive goes mad and every application is affected you may as well go and make dinner while it sorts itself out. Then over the past couple of weeks Office Picture Manager started to do the same thing but after looking at this forum found that by deleting the associated .cag file hey presto its back to normal. Is the problem the same in MS paint and if so where do I find its associated catalogue file?

Help needed
by Guest m_corbelli- 2 replies

My daughter's notebook computer tanked at college this week and she came home for the weekend for dad to fix it. It starts normally, then after the windows splash screen it goes black. Before I tried to fix it, I wanted to take her data off to another drive. I placed the HD in an external enclosure and plugged it into my laptop. When I explore the drive, everything appears to be there. Under properties, it shows about 2/3 full, which would be about right for the music, photos, documents and such. When I click on documents and settings, I see the normal folders, administrator, shared, and hers. When I click on the shared, there is the normal empty shared fo…

Windows Explorer Switches Errors
by Guest Skippybox- 7 replies
Hi, I am trying to use the windows explorer switches, but have a problem combining /root with /select. Individually they work, but together I get problems. Initially, I used: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/root,c:\ucd,/select,c:\ucd\module. I tried it different ways but usually I get C:\ to open instead. I tried skipping the comma before /select and when I try a file, I get a warning that the path does not exist or is not a directory. If I add an extension to the end of the file it sometimes gives me a File Download box. Other times, like for a jpg file, it actually displays the image in the 2nd pane! If I choose a directory instead of a file…
