1440X900 Not Available
by Guest Alethea- 4 replies

I am looking for some assistance regarding my Acer 19" Widesreen monitor. I just bought this wonderful monitor and when I tried to set it to the resolution 1440X900, well, it dosen't exist. My operating system is Windows XP home edition version 2002. I am going to assume that my computer has all the updates. My question is; would this be a video card issue or if this is a computer hard drive issue. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated! -- A~

XP Pro mouse problem.
by Guest Dan- 7 replies

My wife has a Lenovo laptop, running XP pro, which she uses with a "desktop" corded keyboard & mouse when she works in her office. Both are PS/2 devices, connected with this adapter to a USB port: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812101117 Whenever the laptop goes to sleep, the corded mouse ceases to function unless she reboots. Both keyboards continue to function, as does the touchpad mouse on the laptop; only the corded mouse gives up the ghost. A previous cordless USB mouse (now lost) had no such difficulties. Is there a cure for this? Thanks in advance, Dan

When u run from a) drive's properties with 'no-fix' or b) from restart with 'fix' on where did the MS geek with the coke-bottle peanut butter stained glasses & pocket protector hide the chkdsk results? Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A working unsecure OS is infinitely better than non-working secure OS. Just spent 1 week cleaning up the mess WUpdate made preventing hypothetical security problems. http://microscum.com/comsense/

Ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt
by Guest Lee Ann- 8 replies
Sorry, I'm new to posts. I should have explained my problem better... When I turn on my dell 4500 the computer acts like it is starting, then it goes to a black screen that says: The following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall the file. Well, after using F8 I can't do anything. I searched the posts and found one that recommended using the XP disk and going to recovery console and using the expand command and then overwriting. I tried that and it said "Access denied". What now? Thanks for your patience!

Outlook Express (transferring Address Book)
by Guest Dean- 7 replies

I am attempting to transfer my address book from my desk top to my laptop. Both are running Window XP. I am working off of directions 'How to back up and to restore Outlook Express data', that I found on a forum. I have done the 'export to a backup folder' on the desktop. How do I now get that information to the laptop so that I can 'import' that backup folder. -- Dean Colorado Springs

failure to log on
by Guest Nurmi- 4 replies
On booting I am informed on the screen: "The system could not log on. User name and domain name are correct. Then Type your password again!" I have complied. Failure to sign on. I have changed my password. Nil effect. I have deleted my password and name. Left is the administrator log on. Nil effect. It's a nuisance no more, cause by clicking on the message, the next screen shows administrator box and clicking on it boots-up the PC. I would like to solve the problem though. Thanks! -- Nurmi

XP Repair
by Guest GaryG- 9 replies
My system (XP Home upgraded from Me 4 years ago) has become slow booting, extremely slow shutting down, and sluggish otherwise. I've unwisely used registry cleaners for several years and maybe I've caused the registry to be part of my problem. I investigated the possibilty of a repair install using the XP upgrade CD (have looked at the MikeStevens Web site), but I can't boot from the CD, nor can Windows Explorer find anything on it. Maybe I have to run setup and change my boot device order? Don't understand. Can someone help me get a handle on what I'm missing here? -- Gary
