My Photos folder opens VERY slowly...
by Guest Howard B- 7 replies

Hi everyone! I have a Dell Dimension running Windows XP with enough RAM! Today when I tried opening up My Photos folder from my C drive, it took a VERY long time to open. Once I opened a selected a folder within My Photos, the folder opened, but when I chose to go back, it took a very long time to perform that activity, as well. Rebooting the computer did not help. Opening up the My Pictures folder from my external G hard drive (everything is back up there) opened instantly. Any ideas? Thanks!

Windows Explorer - SLOW
by Guest Jon Delano- 9 replies

Hey all I am running XP Pro SP3 2GIG DDR2 800 RAM on a SATA HD (with 20G Free) CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.66 What I am finding is when I double click on a folder, it takes 3-5 seconds for it to open. Even with 0 objects in the folder, same when using the back button or the UP button. Any change in you location using explorer takes a while. The window turns white and then displays the contents, in addtion. Explorer.exe takes about 50% CPU utilization to do this magical trick. I tried re-applying SP3 incase a file was corrupted somehow. I've run anti-virus/spayware scans from Trend-Micro, AVG (which runs all the time) and SUPER Anti-Spyware, with no results…

I have a home LAN with 2 desktops and 2 laptops, all running XP Pro except one, computer J-Desktop, which runs XP Home. They run as a workgroup, HOME, with a router which assigns addresses through DHCP. All run ZoneAlarm configured to allow the network in the Trusted Zone. All computers have all drives shared. All computers see one another and can share files except computer J-Desktop and one of the other computers, K-Desktop. K-Desktop can see and access J-Desktop, but J-Desktop can only see K-desktop, but when access is attempted, the following error message is displayed: <<<<Error Message: \\abc\drive_N(N) is not accessible. You migh…

When I try to analyze or defragment my computer files I get the following message: Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C:). Please run chkdsk /f. I don't know what has caused this, because the last time I defraged it worked fine, then this time I get this message. Can someone please advise me how to correct this error and tell me what has happened? Thanks

quicklaunch or slowlaunch?

Hi, lately I'm quite annoyed by the quicklaunch, in fact if I don't open it for long time it takes almost 1 minute to open. Of course avg8 plays its role on it but I wonder if someone had the same problem and was able to relieve it.

XP Pro SP2 now has Logon Message(long)

Several days ago upon reading in a security newsgroup: "Use two computer accounts. Using separate accounts will protect against the vast majority of malware. Use a Limited account for all of your daily work. Use an Administrator account only for administrative tasks." I know this is basic old hat but I'm slow. Anyhow I took the plunge and set up the two accounts. Orig Administrator account: AEM Changed to: AEM Admin (with administrator owned files on C:\Documents and Settings\AEM) Created new Limited account: AEM I then spent several hours copying needed files such as Start menu, Boolmarks, Favorites and personal utilities. I plugged alone for two-thre…

Geez, slide shows are so much easier :-) I have a wedding page made in Frontpage 2003, Used the insert web component, Photo gallery and got the thumbnails on the page OK, but when I upload the page to my website NO Thumbnaails. Picture holders are there but no pictures. The Photogallery folder is in the same folder as the page, and thats the way I understood it should be. Although I may be thourly confused, as I usually am :-) Thanks in advance for any suggestions
