Hi, I have a computer with Windows XP. I started it a few days ago to be greeted with the message: 'Windows Product Activation. Your Windows product must be activated. Do you want to activate Windows now?' I clicked OK and after a moment it comes back and says 'Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit.' You can see the screen messages here.... http://www.users.waitrose.com/~zeonozo/1c.jpg Can anyone tell me what to do here please? I mean will it just continue like this for ever, asking for activation and then saying it's OK, because I can cope with that. Or will it just refuse to cooperate on Wednesday morning? How do I resolve this, it is like …

The screen saver does not work !!!
by Guest SIMONE- 4 replies

In my PC (XP Home SP3), works only the screensavers of default (those which we find installed, with to the O.S...... in order meaning to us.). All those which I install, and I say just all, I have tried because them, when I try to enable them: Property - Screen > Screensaver, not they work! I have setting 1/2 minutes, then Apply > OK, but does not happen just null? The thing still stranger, is that, clicking on push-button " Try", it works all to the perfection, but after It applies > OK, passed by far the wait time, does not happen just null! How I can resolve the problem? Thanks in advance!!! -- SIMONE

Windows slows or stops
by Guest bonipie- 2 replies

Computer: WinXP SP2, 1g ram, 60g hd (12g freespace). Usually surfing, explorer/windows slows and finally stops. Sometimes, when we exit explorer, then go back to surf, it is ok for a while. (By slow, I mean that it will take 10 minutes to boot up.) In Windows, same thing, but never speeds up. I have active virus s/w and run regular scans, usually nothing found but a couple of cookies. If I defrag, system seems to return to normal for a while. Sometimes restoring to a previous date helps for a while. Any ideas. Appreciate the help.

Windows XP Activation problems

Hi.. Yet another person with ongoing activation issues here, any help would be great. I've got a legit copy of Win XP Pro that I've only ever used on this computer (self-built) for about 3 years now. I recently reformatted and was prompted to activate windows again but it's not working. The last time I reformatted I had this problem aswell but it all of a sudden activated on the last day before deadline. Both this time and last time I've called to activate over the phone but they haven't helped. They've talked me through changing the product key to the same key it already has (?) which makes no difference (which doesn't surprise me?). I've run out of…

Is there a consensus out there about the best defrag program for XP? Diskeeper or Perfect Disk, or are the differences negligible? Is there another contender I should consider?

single executable file to customize Windows XP ?
by Guest anon36- 2 replies

I am a university student and we have to use communal computers. When I log on to any computer, the My Documents folder is there, and it has my files in. But everything else always starts out with some default settings. Anything not stored in My Documents gets deleted when you log off. What I would like to have is a single executable file that customizes Windows (e.g. change to "classic taskbar", change windows and buttons to "Windows classic style", set the background image), changes the Internet Explorer settings to how I like them, and runs several freeware utilities such as PureText and TClockEx. Then every time I log in I could just double-click on this f…

Deleting and the recycle bin
by Guest Jon- 3 replies

If I delete a file from my PC, as expected it goes in the recycle bin. If I delete a file using my PC which is stored on another PC networked to my PC, it doesn't go in my recycle bin or (as far as I can see) the recycle bin of the networked PC. Is there a way to set up the recycle bin on either PC so that these deletions do go in one of the recycle bins?

my friend bought a used computer, which worked fine until her kids got on it and locked her out with a log on password. we got that figured out, she is now able to log on to windows, but now she can't add or remove any programs or even access wireless internet because it says she has to be logged on as administrator and we can't figure out how to change this. we have tried adding a new usse, but this too has to have administrator rights. we don' t know what to do because she doesn't have the money to take it to a repair shop. please, someone help us out here. i need exact directions to be able to do this. HELP, PLEASE!!!!!
