Problem Renewing Live OneCare
by Guest Rick- 6 replies
I purchased a copy of Live OneCare rather than renewing online. I followed the installation instructions and it works and updates daily as it should. My problem is I continually get popups telling me to renew. Upon installation completion, it said it may take up to 24 hours for the renewal notice would go away. Unfortunately, that was three weeks ago. What can I do or who can I contact to get this resolved? Thanks, Rick

But given that CD-R discs are almost throw-away cheap and are faster and are more reliable, rather few …

8/Oct/2008 4:07 The calculator that is with Windows XP is too sensitive as to inputting. Is there a way to make the input less sensitive? If so, what is it? If not, what is a decent alternative. (I do not need a "fancy" calculator since I do only basic math.) Sincerely, Barry Karas

Windows Installer problem on Windows XP SP1
by Guest lam- 2 replies

Hi all, My computer showed "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed ...." when I tried to install a new printer software to the PC. I tried methods 1 and 2 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346 without success. Method 1: Reregister the Windows Installer Method 2: Reinstall the Windows Installer - Needed to renamed msiexec.exe to msiexec.old, msihnd.dll to msihnd.old and msi.dll to msi.old before new WI installation. The problem after reinstalling the WI version 3.1 v2 is that the WI can't start. When I tried the services.msc and tried to manually start WI, it can't find the file msiexec.exe. Somehow the renamed files were not re-created…

Scheduled Task Won't Run Under Limited User
by Guest K- 7 replies
I have a few workgroup machines which I cannot for various reasons join to the domain. I have set up 2 scheduled tasks to perform a number of actions at user logon. These tasks run as administrator and so can perform the relevant actions. They show in Scheduled Tasks and run fine when the administrator logs in, however when a normal user (limited user) logs in, they can neither see the tasks exist nor do they run. What do I need to do to get around this problem? Thank you

Unable to block/unblock contacts in MSN Messenger
by Guest Ale- 0 replies

Whenever I try to either block or unblock a contact by right clicking on it in the contact list the action won't be performed (the contact still shows in the same status as before attempting the change). When i right click the contact in my contact list it says either "unblock" or "block" as if they are blocked/unblocked but there's no red circle next to their name to say they are blocked in the first case. When I log out from MSN a sign will pop displaying the message:"Contact X (the one I tried to block/unblock) cannot be blocked/unblocked. Please try again later". Is this a server issue or a problem with my MSN installation? I haven't done any changes …

Security Center icon missing from Control Panel after Malware Atta
by Guest Toobusy- 7 replies

Our laptop became infected with the XP Antispyware 2009 malware. It turned off our security center and Kasparsky Anitivirus. We were able to remove the malware and clean the system but now the Security Center Icon is missing from the control panel. Under "services" it shows that Security Center is running "automatically" but I have no way to access the program without the icon (that I know of). OS: Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 Thanks for any help in restoring the icon. If I can't get this corrected, my only tought was to reinstall Service Pack 2 (have a disk which includes Windows Security Center) then run the windows updater and update it back to…

USB Port Not Working
by Guest LMO- 4 replies

Aloha all. I bought a 4 Port USB Hub, but it is not working. It has a male USB plug, to plug into the USB ports on my computer, and add 4 more. I plugged it into the front USB port on my XP/SP3 system, but nothing is recognized when I plug into the port. The Device Manager says it is an Unknown Device under USB Controllers, and it says No Drivers Are Installed. The Hub did not come with any drivers. Is there any way I can get this recognized and working easily? Thank you.
