Reinstalling Windows XP Home on a Packard Bell laptop
by Guest David- 13 replies

Hi, I needed to replace my HDD on my 4 year old Packard Bell (PB) A7145 laptop. As readers may know PB laptops don't come with Windows XP installation disks but rely on the use of restore disks & a restore partition on the HDD. I no longer have the restore partition so thought that I only needed to reinstall Windows XP and use the product key that came with the original laptop. That didn't work because it looks as though PB use a particular OEM version of Windows. I see that the sticker is marked NEC presumably indicating that it is a special version. My options seen to be: - buy another Windows XP but that will cost more than the laptop is worth, …

Hi All, I have switched my computer on this morning and when i load my profile or any of my families profile the machine reboots itself after around 10 seconds. It only happens when i load the profiles. I have attempted to start the machine in Safemode to attempt to complete a virus scan but i cannot seem to find the virus software when in Safemode. I suspect that a virus is causing this but dont know which or how to remove. I have a P4, XP-SP2 machine. Can anyone offer any advise as to what might be causing this problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards. -- Flinty
