Re: Contacts & Signatures Won't Stick I can't get Contacts and more than one Signature to stick in WLM 14.0.5027.0908 Beta, using XP SP3. Each time I exit WLM, the contacts and extra signatures disappear. Is no one else experiencing this problem? Is it a known bug in WLM 14.0.5027.0908 Beta? -- DSH Lux et Veritas et Libertas Vires et Honor

by Guest Paul- 3 replies

Hey all. I thought protected mode only worked in Vista? I've just built a system (AM2 5000+). XP SP3. And I can tick this option?? So, why can I select it if I dont use Vista? Isnt it usually ghosted in XP? Is it because I'm using a CPU that supports it or something?

Refreshing a key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive without restart
by Guest tempnode@gmail.com- 8 replies

I'm trying to update a registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Accessibility -> Keyboard Response -> Flags) and refresh the registry without restarting explorer.exe (or without logging off). I've tried UpdatePerUserSystemParameters from user32.dll, which is supposed to update HKCU, but it won't work. Is there something about this key that won't allow a refresh like the rest of HKCU?

I don't know if anyone can help regarding the following problem but, if you can, I really need your help. Because my PC used to operate with ME and was updated to XP Home, my filing system was FAT 32. Due to the fact that NTFS is a better system, I decided to convert from FAT 32 to NTFS using the XP built-in converter. All went well except for one major problem...after startup and after approx. 3 to 5 minutes, a blue screen appears that reads: "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer BAD_POOL_HEADER" then the message goes on telling you lots more regarding uninstalling any recent programs etc. (…

Validation Issue
by Guest Briandp- 9 replies
Why is it that after I have downloaded every upgrade in the book, including Service Pack 3, when I go into the upgrade site, it now requests that I validate Windows XP and then will not validate and tells me I may have a counterfiet copy? Can anyone tell me where to go and how to overcome this. I have been using this program from some time. Upgraded from Me to XP with this copy of XP, but it now demands that I spend $99 to get a validation copy or what ever. What is going on? Briandp

HKEY_USERS hives loaded when users not logged on
by Guest jjjdavidson- 5 replies

Under what circumstances can a user's registry hive under HKEY_USERS remain loaded (or get reloaded) after a Windows XP system is rebooted--but before the user logs on? I'm hearing about users who are losing their local profile because their hive is in use even after a reboot. We use an antispyware program that loads all the user hives while it runs. If it crashes, the hives it loads don't unload from HKEY_USERS; a reboot normally clears this up. But a very few users are reporting that the HKEY_USERS entries persist even AFTER a reboot (which I didn't think was possible). I've not been able to see it for myself; someone else unloaded the hives manua…

Multiple Lucoms~1.exe processes
by Guest Matt H, England- 3 replies
Hi there I have about 60 of the LUCOMS~1.exe running in my task managers' processes window. I've tried to terminate them but am not allowed, I've checked other peoples posts and they all seem to only have the problem of one process sucking their cpu dry. I installed spybot but it didn't remove them, they all take up exactly 32k of memory, and my commit charge is 847M/978M (I'm pretty sure this is a bad thing - as is having 123 processes running when I'm typing on here, with explorer notepad and the taskmanager the only other things open). Anyway. Basically, can anyone suggest a way for me to remove all these processes - I can see from other posts that at cer…

I wanted to write a batch file for comparing files in the current directory with those in another directory in terms of file size. And the following is what I have so far: @echo off rem compare files in the current directory with those in another directory rem in terms of file size. rem parameter to this batch ("the other directory") should include the path separator rem (backslash) if it is a proper directory spec rather than say "<drive letter>:" if "%1"=="" ( echo Usage %0 the-other-dir goto :end ) for %%f in (*.*) do ( set fn=%%f echo %fn% set fn2=%1%fn% echo %fn% for %%G in (%fn%) do set fz1=%%~zG for %%H in…

Configuring Fax
by Guest scGram- 3 replies

We recently changed our phone service to Broadband with our cable company (who also supplies the broadband cable connection for our computer) I can no longer send a fax. Tech Support told me that I need to configure the fax program to send as "DATA" for sending instead of sending as a phone fax. I can't find where to do this. I am using the fax utility that is installed with Windows XP Home .... Can someone tell me where to change this information? Thanks -- Dori ... -----------------------------------------------

Recently I noticed that the Auto Logon feature in Power Toys, Tweak UI does not stick. Every time I reboot I have to re-enable this feature. System is WinXP Pro SP2 with all latest updates. and Tweak UI is v2.10.0.0. Has MS intentional broken this feature and if so is there away to make it work again? Thanks.

Font problem - Chinese won't display properly in some txt files
by Guest Zerosum- 6 replies
I was having problems viewing separately downloaded Chinese subtitles in avi files. I finally managed to solve that problem using BSPlayer. But that's not what I'm asking for help with here. There's something I don't understand. I downloaded the Chinese subtitles from a Chinese website. The subtitle filetype is .srt. However, when I open the subtitle file in Notepad, all I see are lines of nonsense characters that look like this: ÕâÊÇÄãÃÇÄܼ¯ºÏµÄ°®ºÃ But when I open the same srt subtitle file in Word, I get a File Conversion options window asking me to choose one of the following: 1 Windows (Default) 2 MS-DOS 3 Other encoding (choose…
