System Restore & IE corrupt
by Guest Anna- 7 replies
I have Windows XP and used IE 7. I had to do a system restore on Saturday because the add-ons someone messed up my system and I couldn't visit websites or click using radio buttons. Now IE 7 has disappeared - when i click on the icon my desktop flickers but IE never opens. The strangest thing of all is my System Restore no longer works and that concerns me more than IE not working. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Screen show on extended desktop
by Guest John Favaro- 1 reply

With XP Pro, I extended my desktop onto a second screen. Then I opened PowerPoint, opened a PPT file, and moved it over to the second screen to work on it. At some point I clicked "Screen Show", and the screen show came up on .... the first screen. Why didn't it come up on the second screen, and is there anything I can do to get it onto the second screen? (This actually has practical applications -- I tried to use the extended desktop technique to attach a projector as the second screen - but if I can't get the screen show to appear on the second screen, then, well, forget that idea.) Thanks for any insights, John

I Love Windows
by Guest Frank Parmelee- 8 replies

I have never known what it is to have a boring day - ever. one day things work fine, the next who knows waht happened. For example, the two USB ports on the front of the case worked fine and tehn one day they didn't. A little patience and dilegence goes a long way in troubleshooting. In Device Manager I discovered that the ports in question had no drivers installed. Ok, so push the Update Driver button and al is good again. The question is how can USB ports work one day and not the next? -- FrankO

I am looking to have windowsXp explorer automatically changing the color of the folder icon if no files exist in the folder. I have seen tricks to change the color manually, but that is just not what I am looking for.

99.99...% Recovered from Hard Drive Failure?
by Guest Watty- 5 replies

See my other recent posts on my difficulty in getting my system squared away after a drive failure. So far unstoppable copier hasn't quite done, it but I may know why. Possibly I missed a setting. However, I tried the old drive again. The shop had gotten it up once long enough to copy just about everything off of it, so I thought I'd give it a try. It came up but needed to do a chkdsk, which took 10-15 minutes of sorting out orphans and such. It now seems pretty much up and intact. I'm about to make an image copy and save off to an external drive. I may explore unstoppable again, but first to get the image saved. It's been up for 2 hours. My guess is…

removing Google search from system tray
by Guest Jo-Anne- 6 replies
Today a Microsoft tech support person tried to fix a problem I was having with IE7 on my WinXP SP3 notebook. He ended up having me disable just about everything in msconfig, and later he had me check the "normal" startup box there. Some of the system tray icons I had removed a month ago then returned. I've been able to get rid of everything but the Google search box. I unchecked Google Desktop in msconfig Startup, but it's still in the system tray. Is there a way I can remove it? Thank you! HELP ME PLEASE!! I dont know what I'm doing and this video must be edited by tonight. Every clip is in MPG format. I already tried to download and install the codec by going to options..general..download codacs automatically. I just want to import the clips but it keeps telling me this... "The file \\Generaladmin\videos\Morton Video\M2U00755.MPG cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

VPN defaults to Modem, not NIC
by Guest AlliedTechAdmin- 0 replies

I'm struggling with setting up a VPN connection on a laptop. For some reason, it wants to default to the modem and not use the nic, even when I'm specifically setting up otherwise. The wizard seems to have a mind of its own. I've also tried it within the internet connection preferences. What should I do next?
