Why has Recycled folder gone! on XP
by Guest LPS-AU- 0 replies
After a bulk delete of large number of (Retrospect Backup) files from the Recycle Bin, I noticed that the Recycled folder on each of my drive partitions, has 'disappeared. Using Windows Explorer the only 'Recycle' entry showing in the tree view is one entry for Recycle Bin at the end of the tree view. The Recycle Bin icon is still on the Desktop and a test delete of a file caused it to go to the Recycled Bin. I have checked with another PC and each of the drives has a Recycled folder showing in alphabetic sequence. Grateful for any advice on what to do. Peter. ********

I installed XP Pro on a new 320G HD last week, and need to do it again. However, after 30 minutes it's gotten to the 4% mark. It took less than an hour last week. What's up? Should I kill it? Maybe I should have used the quick format available in install.

by Guest JC- 5 replies

Trying to refresh my PC. I did a (FAST) transfer to an external drive and after reformatting and reinstalling the OS on my Primary drive, I cannot retrieve backed-up data successfully. The File & Settings Transfer runs for 5 minutes (so ‘I believe’ I have compatible versions) and ends with following error messages: “cannot complete the transfer” “An error occurred while the wizard was loading your data. “The wizard cannot create the data needed to save your settings. Make sure you have enough disk space available”. Drive with data (IMG Files) has 50 GB free (plus 20GB+\- in img files) Destination drive (Primary) has 60 GB free USMT2 Folder has…

How can I print file data information in WinXP? When I look at a file in Explore it shows me the name, date modified, date created, etc and if right click I can choose other information to display. I found a file I need for a court case and I need to be able to print these things especially the date it was created. Is there software or some other way that I can print all the file's metadata to show to someone? Thanks

Explorer.EXE entry point not found.
by Guest Techrookie- 6 replies

After getting the error message "file System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sy is missing or corrupt" I did a repair with the original CD. After rebooting most of my desktop icons were missing but all my files and programs are still there but when I tried to start IE7 I got the message "the procedure entry point SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll". I followed the procedure described in article id 888162 to uninstall KB834707 and to remove SP2. After the reboot when I tried to open IE7 I got the message "procedure entry point SHRGetvalueW could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll"; I thought I hadn't properly deleted SP2 and tried to do it via the Add/…

by Guest Dan H- 2 replies

Hi, We have a customer running Windows XP sr3. The computer is on a small network (Windows sbs). The profiles on all computers are local. Customer reported that the customer lost his profile. Upon inspection I noted that his profile was using a Temp profile. I have seen this problem before so I recreated the profile (renamed the profile folder). Next day customer powers down and the profile is once again reverting back to a temp. I booted to safe mode and followed procedures for rebuilding profile. i powered down the computer twice and restarted just to make sure everything was OK and it appeared to work. Well this morning customer reported profile is…
