I want "Multiple" monitor for both 1 and 2
by Guest childofthe1980s- 1 reply

Hello: In the Display settings in Windows XP Control Panel, the drop-down list for monitor 1 and 2 read "(Multiple)". Now, only 1 says "(Mulitple)". #2 says "Plug and Play". I want them both to say "(Multiple)" in the drop-down list. I wish that I had never played with these settings, and I cannot remember how to switch them back. I don't care about those two checkboxes at the bottom. I just want each of the two selections in the drop-down to red "(Multiple)" ,like it was in the beginning. Would rebooting help? If not, how do I fix this? Thanks! childofthe1980s

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D-01N, Model No: PSLC8C-01N019 and I am downgrading to XP Pro from Vista. I have formatted the hard drive then tried to boot with my XP Pro that already has SATA drivers as I had created it earlier but I get this Stop Error 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034). Would I need different drivers for the hard drive??? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a desktop computer that has Windows XP Professional isatlled on it. It was user-installed. Right now , i am having issues with Windows XP trying to load. It comes to the WINDOWS XP loading screen with the green scrolling bar below the XP logo. As it attempts to load, it freezes before the screen switches from the welcome screen to the logon screen. What are the causes of this and how can it be overcome so that Windows will start normally? NOTE: Safe mode does work. Restore has been attempted but it can't get passed that little bump as XP is loading -- Jeremy

HELP with scheduled tasks
by Guest jhleslie@googlemail.com- 10 replies

Hello! I have some important files on my computer that need backing up daily, there is a hard disk attached and a very nice young man created a thing called BACKUP.BAT which works perfectly. It took him about 45 seconds of furious typing. It copies everything from my computer to the hard disk, all the files that have changed, or been created, perfectly. All I have to do is double click it. I wanted this to happen at the same time every day so the nice young man said as he left the office 'just set up scheduled tasks'. I have been trying to do this ever since but it wouldn't run, then eventually, acting on a hunch, I discovered that it is because I don't hav…

by Guest Jeff Rosiek- 3 replies

I copied in some text from a pdf file and pasted it into Word. I have Windows XP with Word 2003. When I pasted the text, it puts hard returns at the end of each line. Is there a simple way I can replace these returns with a space and no return so that the text flows as it should? Thanks for your help. -- Jeff A. Rosiek

I'm getting frequent (every 2-3 min) svchost.exe errors: same instruction address is trying to access memory at 0x00000000. Is there a way to see what program is trying to do this? McAfee quarantined something and this started happening so I figure it's some sort of virus. Anyway to get rid of it without re-install? Thanks

The system, a recent build, is as follows: Biostar TF7025-M2 (aka N68SA-M2T) GeForce 7025/NF630a chipset Athlon 64 X2 3600+ 2 GB DDR2 Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT WD 160GB hard drive WinXP Home v.2002 updated to SP3 Whenever I try to go into standby, I get the message "preparing to stand by ..." but the system just hangs. Changing standby in the BIOS from S1 to S3 makes no difference. I've enabled hibernation in Power Options but that doesn't work either. When I try to go into hibernation I just get "preparing to hibernate ..." and the system hangs again. Everything in the power management section of BIOS looks okay to me, the system has been doing …

Can't get my left speaker to work, and the right one isn't real strong or clear. Have tried all the volume and balance settings. Have tried 2 different sound cards. One on board, the other a PCI, which is new. Have tried 3 different sets of speakers. Two sets of which are new. Any ideas?
