Gateway Crappy Bios Settings

I have a Gateway 700mhz computer. It came with a blank formatted hard drive. My other 700mhz computer died (bad motherboard). I am mostly just transferring everything to this Gateway. My memory, video card, sound card and drives. I put in my master HD with Win98 and all my data. (I've done this before and it works, just need to change a few drivers). Anyhow, the HD I am putting in, is a Western Digital 20gig. The computer used to have a Quantum 20gig installed. When I go into the bios CMOS settings, the computer insists that I still have the Quantum drive installed. It's not only unplugged from the data cable and power cable, but it's removed from the cas…

I have a HP Pavilion 4509 and a 6511 preloaded with Windows 98 SE. The 14" Monitor is a HP Pavilion M50 CRT model No D5258A. I had downloaded and installed a Security Update KB891711 from Windows Update website and then I thought that this update caused a problem and so I removed it from the "Add/Remove Programs". I had restarted the PC and to my dismay, I found that ALL other listed programs had simply disappeared - but NOT the programs themselves! What could have caused this and how could I restore it - in the list? Thanking you Capt K Ripendran

Useful add-on for Windows

Most '98ers have probably made their peace with this, but for anybody who, like myself, continues to be dumbfounded that Microsoft elected to put the New Folder function in the Windows Explorer drop down menu rather than the context menu, "New Folder Here" is a nice freeware fix: http://www.downloadjunction.com/product/store/288/index.html I know download sites like this one are frowned upon, but the author of this fix, on his own site, has recently elected to bundle it with several others in a larger download. Two days after installation in W2K, and after one virus scan and spyware scan, no problems or unintended consequences to report. If you determine t…

Clipboard Help

When using CTRL + C, I can copy selected text to the clipboard. But then I need to select other text then, rather than REPLACE text in the clipboard, I need to ADD that selected text to the clipboard. Is there a way to do this in Windows - like is there a power user feature or something? If not, what is a good utility that I can use like clipboard that will allow me to add highlighted text. I do need something that will allow me to use a hotkey combination (like CTRL + C) to copy and paste the text as there are thousands of bits of information to extract from a document, so switching back and forth between windows to copy then paste will be unnecessari…

Windows default settings

Greetings! I have a question about the desktop settings in Wondows 98. I have several old machines which have had all the settings changed, such as the mouse pointer style, system font, background, screen saver, etc. Is there a quick way to reset them all to Windows defaults with one or two clicks? Maybe a registry setting or something, so I don't have to open all those settings one at a time on each of my 25 machines? Thanks, Jay
