Att. ...et al.”- RE: Bothersome popup
by Guest BAP- 5 replies

....et al"., I am not quite sure if this is the best way to update/follow up on the subject or restoring the registry of choice. At any rate, this is the current status. If you recall, I had mentioned that I could not get the system to restore a registry backup that I had saved the day before the pop up problem showed up. Because of the many issues present in my machine and fearful of taking the steps that you well outlined to get the ‘job’ done by a different route, I had more or less decided to let things be and just deal with the pop up nuisance. Later on, the reality that only five of the latest backup files of the Registry would show up on …

Error on startup
by Guest Graham W.- 7 replies

Computer starts up OK but now leaves an error message on desktop, (The page cannot be displayed.......Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer). The message is in minimized view and cannot be maximized but can be scrolled. This has just started happening although the error message can be easily cancelled. Everything operates as normal except system has become extremely sssslllloooowwwww. I've had no reason to alter the settings in internet options but have checked them anyway and can't find anything out of place. I have also reset settings to default, but still the same. I'm running '98 SE. Cheers Graham

W-98SE Fat32ebd
by Guest SPORTSCOACH- 4 replies

In one of the old posts Ron Badour wrote "you can make a W98 Restore disk with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the W-98CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd". I am always a little leery of clicking on EXE files unless I know what to expect. Does clicking on the Fat32ebd.exe file transfer the startup files to the blank floppy in A:/? I'm having a tough time getting my computer to recognize the fact that there is a CD drive installed in the computer. I've formatted the HD, ran Fdisk and transferred the system files. Tried swapping out the CD drive, flat data cables, checked all connections. The boot disk that I have tries to install CD drivers but a message comes up…

by Guest guddu- 0 replies

Hi, I have a print.C which on compilation results in print.exe. This exe invokes the Windows Printer Dialog Box when PrintDlg function is being called. Before calling PrintDlg function, pd.hDevMode and pd.hDevNames are set to NULL. pd.hDevMode = NULL; pd.hDevNames = NULL; Other members of PRINTDLG pd structure variable are set as follows pd.lStructSize = sizeof(PRINTDLG); pd.hwndOwner = hWnd; pd.Flags = PD_RETURNDC | PD_RETURNDEFAULT; I have set the PD_RETURNDEFAULT flag as I dont want to see the Printer Dialog Box Window. After setting these values, PrintDlg function is called as if(!PrintDlg(&pd)) { fprintf(stderr, "><Pr…

Re: I cannot create startup disc Please clarify, I am always leery of clicking on .EXE files unless I know what will happen. When I insert a blank floppy in A: and click on the Fat32ebd.exe file on the CD, does that transfer the startup files to the floppy? Cannot uninstall program!!
by Guest bill- 4 replies
This is probably pretty stupid but I have googled and found nothing to help. I have a fairly simple stock control/ database program which crashed on me due to a power failure. To re-install I must first uninstall. Problem is via add/remove programs the process just hangs. I cannot uninstall it. Just removing the folder and deleting as many reg entries as I could find did not help. How can I uninstall this damned thing ?? Using win98se. TIA Bill

Really Stupid Video Problem
by Guest Franke48@no-mail.com- 7 replies

Although I love Win98 and would not touch XP or above with someone elses computer on a 10 foot pole, I must say that 98 can get stupid once and awhile. Its doing that right now. I have an older P3 700mhz. It came with a built in video card, which would work some days, and other days the screen was all flakey, like all small colored squares with binary code in it. Rather than scrap the whole motherboard, I plugged in a Virge PCI card that I had in an even older computer. Much to my surprise, the video quality and speed was even better and I no longer have that scrambled screen every few days. However, when I first plugged in that card, I had to go online …

6 Months Later, a Report Card on Vista
by Guest 98 Guy- 0 replies

I wonder why Vista's aggressive digital rights management wasn't mentioned in this story. I like this point: "Everybody wants there to be a repeat of Windows 98 - the excitement, the sales volume, the rate of growth and everything else" said Michael Cherry, an analyst for the independent research group Directions on Microsoft. " Yea, and I bet they'd like to be able to repeat the relative security that Win-98 gave to users vs that abomination known as XP. As expected, MS will spend very little to advertise or market Vista, since it will come by default on new systems because people will have no choice. It will take 5 years before it reaches …
