Having problem downloading big files !! Help !!!

I am using ADSL, 2Mbit / s connection. Lately am having much difficulties in downloading big files. Downloading stops at around the point of 50 MByte or so. Just stay there, no error message, just stay there. Nothing. At first I thought it was IE that went nuts. So I tried downloading with FireFox. Same things happen. Then I tried Opera. Same thing ! If I use download manager like WellGet, the file can be downloaded, no problem. But if I try downloading large files with browsers, it just stay there, around 50 MBytes, it didn't say "error" or something, the download line still open, but even if I left it overnight, it still stays there. Dunno what t…

DeskJet 932C won't install
by Guest PSRumbagh- 0 replies

I am trying to install a HP DeskJet 932C printer on a PC that is running Windows 98 Second Edition. The driver installation software (autorun.exe), from a third party download, won't run at all on the PC. There is no apparent opening of the program and no error messages are produced. Why is there no response to the program? What can I do to get this printer installed? The Win98 SE CD does not contain drivers for the 932C as it was first marketed in year 2000. The downloaded installation software runs OK on another PC running Windows 98 First Edition. I do not have the original HP installation CD. Note: HP is no longer providing product support and …

ISA Plug and Play not working (clean install)
by Guest rpgs rock dvds- 0 replies

Are there are any noteworthy BIOS or Windows 98 settings I need to be aware of to get Win98 successfully installed on a QDI Advance 9 or 10 mobo? (VIA chipset). The reason I ask is that I am having a problem with Win98's ISA Plug and Play mechanism. Win98 is unable to detect any PnP ISA cards. Please note this occurs with the CMOS settings cleared and a clean Win98 install, plus I'm just using a basic VGA graphics card only, or occasionally this graphics card with a Soundblaster AWE64 (PnP ISA). For either hardware configuration mentioned above, inside Device Manager there appears to be some kind of resource problem with this System resource: "IO read d…

filesystem

The system properties on the performance tab advanced settings has three button choices at the bottom. The first choice is filesystem: desktop, mobile docking, network server. How does this change the filesystem and what are the changes? I remember something on a Aumha discussion about legacy filesystems by Jim Eshelman on this topic, but now I can not find it. Something about network server settings to optimize the HDD.

Question on batch file?
by Guest Eric- 3 replies

There is a command as show below for my batch file DELTREE /y C:\CWIN98\tempor~1 After running this batch file, and refresh the window explorer for this folder, I still can see files inside this directory. Will it be refresh problem? On the other hands, I would like to delete the folder UserData without any request for confirmation if it exists under C:\WIN98\UserData. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to write the code on batch file? Thanks in advance for any suggestions Eric -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

computer security: CS
by Guest Jim- 3 replies

The CC [Common Criteria] has a test rating called the EAL [Evaluation Assurance Level]. I have read that win2k for biz has an EAL 4+. This is without any of the critical updates and I have read in wiki that there are at most 7 levels of EAL and anything past 4 is like NSA certified for government special services employing kernel layer CS policies. By far more than any of us would ordinarily need. Does anyone know what the EAL is for win98se is, and where to find this data at MS or a qualified significant other? Does win98.x have sufficient kernel layer CS policies in place? Some people believe win 2k pro was the best that MS ever built; is there a place to…

Antivirus Software
by Guest BAP- 0 replies

I have heard about some free versions of software packages that one can download and use to check W98ME systems for viruses, but I do not know if any of them could be launched at the Dos Prompt. There may be times when a System may fail to boot successfully and the only way to get anywhere is by using a Start-up Diskette. Is there some way to check for viruses at the C: Prompt? Thanks! -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

Inbox contents simply vanished 1 2 3
by Guest Larry- 68 replies

In OE 6, Windows 98, the entire contents of the Inbox just vanished after restarting computer. There were about 4 weeks of e-mail in there. Other folders do not seem to be affected. I looked in the Outlook Express folder on my hard drive, and the Inbox file at this address: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{9226D728-E116-11DA-8D61-00045A5FABE0}\Microsoft\Outlook Express was down to something like 130 KB, containing just a lot of unreadable code. I normally move Inbox contents to other folders regularly to keep Inbox from getting too large. I've never seen anything like this. The contents of a huge file simply vanishing.

Bootup - Shutdown logger
by Guest PSRumbagh- 0 replies
I would like to produce a (text) file that shows when (date & time) bootup is completed and when shutdown is initiated. The file needs to append itself everytime bootup and shutdown occurs, i.e the file grows bigger with time. For example, over a year period the file will probably have many hundreds of entries in it. The program must NOT delete previous entries. Any suggestions? -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway
