Folder Options View Settings Confusion
by Guest littlenemo- 7 replies
For as long as I can remember I've been baffled by the 'Folder options' on the View menu of folders in Windows (I have Windows 98). I've never been able to get it to work the way I would like, so I've more or less tolerated its behavior and put up with it. Nor have I been able to find a decent explanation anywhere of what exactly some of those options do, either from Microsoft or from the countless Windows support websites I have visited over the years. I'm not sure if I just don't understand the way it's supposed to work, or if the program is just not functioning the way it's supposed to. Maybe someone on a discussion group somewhere can help me out. …

Usable driver for Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 in Win98SE?
by Guest Techineer- 1 reply
Does anyone know of a driver that will allow me to make better use of the buttons in W98SE on an MS Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 (wireless optical) mouse? It's part of the Wireless Optical Desktop Pro package. I have several machines connected through a Belkin switchbox, including this Win98SE machine and one running DOS 6.22/Win3.1. It sure would be nice to be able to use some of the buttons on the mouse with them, but I'd settle for just the W98 box. I've tried installing several packages so far: Intellipoint 5.2 and 5.1 won't install at all 4.12 and 4.1 install, but the cursor jumps downscreen when you approach any button Any help appreciated!

MI5-Persecution: MI5 are Afraid to Admit Theyre Behind the Persecution (27024)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies

MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my guess was right. "No determination in your favour" says the Secu…

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (3011)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies

Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

Will Win98SE run on a P4 1.8GHz computer?

Hi, I have a chance to buy an old IBM NetVista Pentiuum 4, 1.8 GHZ, i845(Brookdale) computer. I want to buy this to play older games but I'm wondering if this computer will run Windows 98SE. As I understand, later computers, or is it just chipsets, may not run Windows 98SE. Thanks for any advice, Peter K.

How to toggle file associations
by Guest Jeepwolf- 5 replies

I had a program to play .FLV files. Now I just installed another one that has more options. Both work. Sometimes I'd like to use one, sometimes the other one. The problem is that the new one adopted the file associations from the old one. So now I'm stuck with only the new one. Is there a way to toggle the file associations on the fly? Thanks

Making easier use of the registry
by Guest mm- 11 replies

Is there an easier way to manipulate the registry than I've been led to believe. In particular, I have start up programs that I' not using now but may use next month. Their presence slows down startup (on my old slow laptop that I just bought second-hand) Rather than export and later have to import, I thought I could modify t he value by putting soething in front of the program name. In JCL for mainframes, IEFBR14 was a program that did nothing. Is there anything like that for PCs. For example, I have two wireless modems, each with its own software, one for public hot spots, and a new one I had to buy for hotspots that require a password. Level b vs…

Password security in Win98
by Guest Rosivaldo Fernandes Alves- 6 replies
- 343 views
I have a Win98 and a WinXP in a home LAN. In this group I've learned that a Win98 account may access WinXP shared resources provided the latter has an account with name and password identical to those of the account in the former. Since I think that Win98 stores the passwords in a much less safe way than WinXP does, I'm somewhat worried about the risk of these passwords to be cracked via this possible vulnerability, compromising my WinXP security. Could some one help me about this? Thanks in advance and forgive my poor English. Rosivaldo.

Computer upgrade
by Guest bobster- 17 replies

I have an old P11, 300 MHz computer running Windows 98Se. It does everything I need just fine except the processor speed causes slow page loading from the internet. I can buy a used 1.5 MHz machine for about $100 at a local surplus store. I very much want to stay with 98se as long as I can. My question: Can I take my old "C" and "D" hard drives, fully loaded with Windows 98se (the "C") and all of my apps/drivers and merely put them in the new machine, properly connected to the IDE cable, and thus avoid all the hassle of reformatting, reloading of apps, etc. They are both 20 Gig, 5400 rpm drives and are only about half full.
