Networking trouble with wireless adapter
by Guest DK1000- 2 replies

Hi, I'm trying to integrate a Windows 98SE unit into my network, using a Belkin USB Wireless G Network Adapter model # F5D7050. (looks like a thumb drive) I'm using a Netgear WGT624 V3 router (uses both B and G). I also have hooked into the router a desktop PC using Ethernet cable which I consider my "main" PC, and a laptop using wireless. Both run XP MCE 2005. The computer in question is a PC someone gave me, "home built", and has a 533 MHz Celeron processor. However, I also tried 2 other 98 SE machines also that I have lying around, but the current 533 Mhz one is the fastest and best tech advanced of the three, so I'll try to keep that one on my network. …

questions about a Flash drive and windows 98SE
by Guest DJW- 2 replies

I have some questions about my Verbatim 1 GB Jump/Flash drive I am running windows 98SE When I fill the flash drive up and then trash stuff does it open up space on the drive? Are these type devices more picky about non contiguous space. And if so can I use the Windows 98 Disk Defragmenter to open up contiguous space? Can Scan Disk also be used to right problems? Lastly how do I format it. Do I just right click on it's drive letter in the My Computer Folder and choose format? I am asking all the above because I have been using my jump for a few months now and have deleted some stuff and now when I try to write a large amount of data to it I get a blue screen te…

WAV files needed

I'm looking for a complete set of the system sound files that came with Windows 98 (startup, shutdown, etc.) I know this a tall order, but would anyone mind emailing these WAV files to me? It's easy enough to do. The files can be found in the control panel >sounds. Just copy and paste them to a new folder, then zip....and send! If I can return the favor, let me know. I'm running Windows XP. Bryan Totalrod2 @ aol.com (remove space)

microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion Cable does not come this far out in the suburbs where I live; so, I only have dial-up connection to the internet. I recently downloaded and installed all the Windows 98 SE critical updates. Prior to that when I was already online in Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, in Outlook Express I could select Send/Recv and send/check my mail while already online. Now when I'm already online I select Send/Recv and try to check mail or send mail my modem connection is disconnected and I have to dial-up again. I can then send/check mail; however, If I click to check mail again, it disconnects me and I have to go through the conne…

On this Microsoft webpage - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239937/kb/239937 It tells me about the availability of "Microsoft Windows 98 Customer Service Pack". I am assuming that this is a big all-in-one update to Windows 98, which is what I am after. In the above-mentioned article, it says - Windows 98 Customer Service Pack is available for download from the Windows Update Web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ The problem I am having at the moment is that if I go to the above webpage (using my XP-based PC), I get automatically redirected to - http://tinyurl.com/33fhgk This appears to be the new Microsoft update service. In the FAQ …

Versions of Visual Basic 6?
by Guest ms- 2 replies

Years ago, I downloaded VB6 from the Karen Kenworthy site, which I feel is trustworthy. I have a number of utilities that need VB6, no issues. Recently, I tried a game, it said "your version of VB6 is old, it needs a newer version." Same thing with another program a few days ago. Is there versions of VB6, if so, a URL for the "current version"?. ms

Video adaptor driver
by Guest Paradoxdb3- 2 replies

Just the other day, I got a "new" computer from work. It's a Compaq Deskpro EN. The case is of the small type...I believe it's called small form factor? Anyway, I took the HDD and CD burner out of my old IBM PL300 and installed them in the newer computer case. It took a while to get the Compaq to load from the new hard drive. I didn't want to fdisk the HDD because I have so much stuff on there I cannot lose! So, I used Compaq's disk "test" function and that seemed to help. Anyhow, as could e expected I need to find drivers for the new graphics adaptor in the Compaq. It took me a while, because I didn't know what adaptor was in the machine (I di…

Hi, My computer has WIN98se. I downloaded "FreezFLVtoAVI/MPG/MWV" converter from http://www.smallvideosoft.com. It did a very nice job, but it didn't convert every file. Although it created a MPG for ever file, a few MPG files had 0 bytes!!! Then I downloaded a shareware version from another site that is suppose to be for Win98, but when I tried to install it, a message said it was for WIN NT! Can someone please help me find a GOOD YouTube FLV to MPG (or WMV) converter? Thanks in advance, Brad Before you type your password, credit card number, etc., be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware…

HELP!!!! I have a 40 page .doc story document that is all caps. I wish to change it into regular type print, small letters. However, it's easy to use the format change in Word, but how do I change all the letters that should be capitalized back into caps? Letters like I, or proper nouns, or even the first word of every sentence. Don't tell me to manually change everyone. There must be some easy way to go back and forth between all caps and regular print. What is it? Robert

I am running a Pentium 233 MHz with 128 Meg of Ram. Is there a setting in Internet Options or elsewhere that I can use to try to fix this delay?

I wanted to make the text on my Inspiron 1520 Windows XP (I running Windows 6.0) just a little bit larger, so I used the Accessibility Wizard. Instead of increase my font size a bit much, it is 10 times larger. I tried a number of times to re-do the Wizard but it would go back to my original settings. I cannot even see 1/3 of an article on my screen. It deleted my background (which I can reload) but I don't know why it disappeared. When I turn my computer on, click on IE, everything looks normal until instead of the page with my background and the icons I use, I have a complete white page with the icons I use. The icons are of normal size but when I cl…

Hello, is there anybody out there!!! win98se OS I have a dilemma. I was setting up separate Profiles for the different Users in Passwords on this machine along with ICS in a study of NAT capabilities of a SS4100 modem. *_ I noticed that some of the Desktop folders for another user that were not the correct folder type as oem boot like on My Desktop, in particular the systems folders. So I went into Folder Options and clicked reset all folders...*_ This "little" move erased all the very important program files that were in a folder(s) or shortcut folder(s) that I had on My Desktop and all the other desktops. This is a disaster. Luckily, I can find some of th…
