Re: 98 emachine Hello, Kim. I can't assist you at the moment, but I thought I'd clarify your message and get rid of the old stuff. I am also going to share this post with the Windows 98 General Discussion group, since this one gets little traffic. -- Gary S. Aside from churning out new OS revisions, some profit might be had from looking at current examples of old systems that, in spite of the status quo, have somehow managed to survive, in daily practical use, and without the benefits of a re-install. After all, with penicillin growing on stale bread, who knows what accidental benefits can be created by continually recovering from random errors over a length of time.......... This was always an informative aspect of hardware product development - getting some ancient and field returns that had been ridden hard and put away wet, to pore over (usually in your spare time, though, I'll admit). windows media player 9.0
by Guest Øivind Reinemo- 1 reply

hi, Merry Xmas to u all. I downloaded and installed Windows Media Player for Win98. I got the BSOD (blue screen of death) during or rather at the very end of the installation process, but when I restarted I found to my surprise that the media player worked ok. The only discrepancy I have noticed is that the program does not appear on the add/remove tool in the control panel. Is this serious? How do I uninstall the program in the future? My OS is win98 SE. USB Mass Storage problem
by Guest ind_123- 1 reply

The IDE drive is from a laptop and runs with the USB cable power. I can hear the drive running when I hook it up. It was working on the laptop before. I have seen the Disk management but nothing there. The problem seems to be that the windows fails to install the new hardware. It gives me message that recognised "USB-IDE" then as "USB Mass Storage " then it pops up saying "Failed to install new hardware" reason being that device is not recognised. I dont know how to solve it.

Flash drive Win98 compatibility?
by Guest Tiny- 1 reply

The wife and I are trying to nurse our old computers along until tax return time when we'll buy new ones. We both have AMD750s on GAIXE boards. My old HP burner went mams up so I bought a new one from the local comp store. It came with Nero 7 & claimed to be compatible with win98 but I couldn't get it to burn anything. I used my old burner as another drive with drag & drop capability for back-ups and the like. I only have a 20 GB HD & space is becoming an issue. I took it to the store I bought the drive at & they had to put an older burner in to get it to work with win98 at all. We also discovered Nero 7 won't support drag & drop in win98. The…

Re: Pay Pal FRUSTRATION Hi, I was using Netscape 7 (over 5 years) with Java disabled. I didn't try enabling Java to find out if that would make a difference. Instead, I downloaded Fire Fox and used that browser. Now I can see my balance, etc. Why I didn't get any kind of warning with Netscape, is a mystery.
