Re: Windows 3.x program wont work on Win98 On second thought, I see you did give a procedure below, so maybe I should try it sometime (assuming I can still find a good 3.1 app that's worth playing with). But Windows 3.1 is "simply another DOS application", per se????? (Call me skeptical). > Color me skeptical here: > How is Windows 3.1 simply another "DOS application"? I have a Gateway CPU it had windows 98se version installed before I dumpped it. I have misplaced my reboot floppy. I tried to download a boot disc download from my other computer ( XP ) to a disc but that didn't work, The Gateway has a CD-Rom drive. I went to the bios screen but I don't know to much about that screen. I really wanted to install windows ME on this Gateway, but at this point I'll just be glad to get the windows 98se version up and running again. Thanks

Hi, I'm getting around to adding some wireless bridges to my LAN, which currently consists of a Win98 PC and wireless router. I've configured the wireless bridges by plugging them directly into my PC's ethernet adapter port. I haven't plugged devices into the bridges yet but I'd like to be able to see & confirm that the bridges are all happy and communicating with the router, preferably with a nice graphical interface. Can someone recommend a proggy ?

Flash card drive does not show up
by Guest ms- 1 reply

I installed the universal USB driver software mentioned here awhile ago, works great on 2 W98 machines, as my flash card functions normally. In a third machine there is a problem. The driver software above installed normally. I then plugged in the flash card, got the usual screen finding driver, everything normal as I saw on the other 2 machines. The flash card drive icon showed up in the System Tray. If I select it for Unlock, it shows as drive F, and names my particular flash card. But drive F does not show in windows Explorer. I tried rebooting, tried Safe Mode, don't see it. How to see that drive so I can use it? ms

Scheduled Task
by Guest Mark1- 1 reply

I have Windows 2000 professional distributed through my company, but I could not find the proper place to post questions for that version. I think this is probably a general Windows issue anyway, so.... I have a scheduled task set up to run the following every weekday morning at 9am: NET SEND MYPCNAME "Don't forget to run the Daily Report" It works great as long as I don't ever turn my PC off. If I turn it off, say for the weekend, the task will not run on Monday (even if the computer is back on before 9am) and the task status says "Could not start". I know that you may be asking, "Why not just do an Outlook reminder?", but my company uses Groupwis…

How To Do An XP Registry Repair?
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 1 reply
Are you looking for a Windows XP registry repair solution for your computer? There are many ways to do a repair, with some of them being easier, and some others being very risky as well. I once had a registry problem as well, one that caused my PC to run really slowly, and hang at random times. I was finally able to fix my registry easily with simple software. 1. Symptoms Of Registry Errors Errors in this area of your computer can result in different consequences on your PC. The most common ones include processing/ loading speed issues, the Blue Screen Of Death, and frequent hanging or crashing of the computer. If your computer is experiencing any of these symp…

Video Card for an older Dell - Should I install a new one?
by Guest GeorgeW6- 1 reply
Hi, My video card was working great until a crash required my reloading Windows 98. From then on I never was able to make it work correctly, despite lots of help here and originally from Dell before the Windows 98 support went off. (The sound is not working, either, but it is the picture quality I need fixed) Since this is an old obsession, I have to revisit the situation. I would like to know if starting over by replacing the video card for a new one with its new software would likely solve my problem. I feel there is no sense in going through all the steps to repair again and again, as I did before. Also, are video cards specific to the computer an…

Dial Up Networking Server is checked but is not installed
by Guest Harvey- 1 reply

Hi all, I have followed the Help for installing Dial Up Networking Server, but it does not show up in the Dial Up Networking folder. I have un- checked it in the Windows component list and restarted to be sure it is uninstalled, then checked it followed the prompts for getting it from the C:\Win98 dir (a copy of my CD) and restarted to be sure it installed. But it still does not show in the DUN folder. My Win98 seems to be broken here. Anyone else ever see this, or have any suggestions. Thanks, Harvey

WANTED: MicroMind Slipknot (OLD) Download
by Guest robertmosley@invalid.com- 1 reply
- 205 views
Does anyone remember MicroMind Slipknot? It was the first public web browser for Dos, Win3.x. Unix, and OS2. and came out in 1994. Their archive website still exists here: http://www.micromind.com/slipknot.htm Unfortunately they dont offer the download anymore and in 1997 they abandoned the software. I was one of the first people in my area to go on the www when it was developed. Slipknot was far from Netscape which replaced it, but Slipknot had the unique ability to be run from multiple platforms. I could have sworn I had the install file on a floppy but if I do, I cant find it. I want to try to run it again, and see how it runs on Win98se. I googl…

Editing Right Click Pop-Up Menus
by Guest Fan924- 1 reply

Anyone good at editing Right Click Pop-Up Menus? I just added notepad and wordpad to the popup menu on Windows Explorer. It was easy enough. Now when I try to add a "select all" button, I am getting nowhere. If I can send a Ctrl-A then I could make it happen. Nothing I tried works. Not an easy subject on the web. Many hits and no content. Anyone with experience have any ideas?

Where can I get a free website?
by Guest letterman@invalid.com- 1 reply

My provider does not have webpages. I'm just looking for a place to post a few photos and my homepage which is just a place to promote a small private non-profit animal shelter, and mostly list the animals up for adoption. I've had this site on both 50megs.com and geocities.com, but they have so much garbage advertising and popups that the site itself gets lost. I have since removed the site from those two. I do not need much space, something like 3 megs is more than enough. I'd prefer to avoid the "blog" type sites, and just maintain a regular website. Free is preferred, but if it's just a few bucks a year, I might consider it. Anyone know of such a site?…

What Is CLSID?
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 1 reply

Before you go ahead and download a registry cleaner understand why it is necessary. As a web page loads on your system, you may be prompted to install several ActiveX components before the page can be fully downloaded. This is so that the browser can interpret the ActiveX components and display them properly on the system. This only would only occur if the controls used in the web page were not already on the system. If you decline permission for the installation, the page will not function properly. However, once these ActiveX controls are on your system, you won't have to download them again, even when you come across them on other web sites. These downloads cl…
