WAV files needed
by Guest Bryan- 1 reply
I'm looking for a complete set of the system sound files that came with Windows 98 (startup, shutdown, etc.) I know this a tall order, but would anyone mind emailing these WAV files to me? It's easy enough to do. The files can be found in the control panel >sounds. Just copy and paste them to a new folder, then zip....and send! If I can return the favor, let me know. I'm running Windows XP. Bryan Totalrod2 @ aol.com (remove space) -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

What is mprojector489120293

I keep finding this mprojector489120293 folder in my Windows/Temp folder. I delete it, and it comes back. It appears to be something for flash movies, but I have flash already installed on the computer so I dont know why this keeps being created in that folder. I'm asking because I wonder if this might be a virus or spyware. None of my AV or spyware software show it to be a problem, but I keep deleting it anyhow. Here are the contents. The Folder name is: mprojector489120293 The Files inside are: Flash6movieV2.3.1.1a.mvx FlashPlayer.3.1.1a.ocx mPlayer.3.1.1a.dll System.3.1.1a.mfx The file path is C:\Windows\Temp\mprojector489120293 I should probab…

Starts booting then h/w switches off
by Guest John- 1 reply

I have an HP desktop system for many years and ISTR it has a Pentium 400 processor with a 40GB HDD and I run Win98 on it. The configuration I've got has run for years. But recently something seems to have happened. Now I find that when I boot, the BIOS startup seems ok and then my bootmanager starts. I use "BootIt" and it lives in a tiny partition at the end of the hard drive. But after about a minute (during which I see only a blank screen) the system switches itself off. Can I refresh the system files on the hard drive by using the Win98SE cd? It's been so long since I'v had to deal with this that I would welcome any useful tips or things to…

Connecting USB to Ethernet adaptor
by Guest tigertim71- 1 reply

Hi- I am trying to attach a USB to Ethernet adaptor to get broadband on my W98SE (this works using a normal USB-B to USB-A connection, but I need a 10m cable, hence ethernet...). I load the adaptors driver disk (does not do much, ie. install- but this installed automatically on my XP). The new hardware wizard proceeds; Unknown device-Search for the best driver-after I specify D:\Windows 98 through browse and click next it says windows is unable to locate a driver for this device. I have tried updaing the driver through the Device Manager (Other devices-Unknown Device) and through installing one of the attachments through Windows Explorer (D:\Windows 98).…

Looking for PCMCIA Wireless G that works with Win 98 (Not Win 98 SE)
by Guest RiptideHD- 1 reply
Hello all, I'm glad I found a group focusing on win 98! I have an old laptop that still runs great, but it has win 98 and no ethernet connection. I would rather buy a wireless card than a hard wire card for the PCMCIA slot, but can't seem to find one that says it will work with win 98. They all say Win 98SE, or they don't say what OS is compatible at all... Can someone give me a good lead on which card will work with my PC? Thanks! RHD

Installers
by Guest 33223- 1 reply
Installers Each device within the wireless network (computer, printers, auxiliaries) must be installed with a Network Interface Card, or NIC. The NIC transmits wireless signals from the access device and enables each device in the network to send and receive signals. Installers must also decide which of three industry standards by which to designate to the network. These industry standards are 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g -- these names differing only in the last letter. The "a" standard is the least common and incompatible with "b" and "g." The b standard is most common. The g standard enables more robust digital downloading, and can support with b. The b …

Need DRIVER DETECTIVE
by Guest justme_jim@nospam.com- 1 reply

Years ago I downloaded and installed a shareware called "Driver Detective". Back then it was from a company called Monkeysoft. I'm not quite sure how I got a registered version after all these years. The version I have is 2.0.13. I just decided to upgrade the program and was prepared to pay the cost because I have been having some driver problems that need to be fixed. I ended up going to http://www.drivershq.com. I assume this company either took over, or changed their name. (I dont see any history on their site). I was ready to download the trial when I noticed it said will not work with Win98, or anything below Win2K. They do not have any of their olde…

Does anyone know what Windows code fragment _delis is supposed to do? It may belong to OE (v.6.00.2800.1123) or perhaps Winfax v.8 (just reinstalled, not yet patched/updated) was associated with an odd system hang (revealed by Ctl Alt Del but would not unload on command) then total system hang ("Cannot write to C: when nothing was supposed to be writing to C.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

Did a clean install of 98SE , plus, I used the update packs from Gary . Got down to the "Recommended Updates \ Mapped Drives Shut Down" and after the install, rebooted. Now, it locks up before getting into Windows and pops up an error message as follows: MPREXE This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problems persists, contact the program vendor. Have tried booting into Safe Mode with the same result. Booted to the DOS prompt and looked for MPREXE in the Windows directory but found nothing. What's the solution to getting past this so everything works ????…

I have a Windows 98 System that has been reformatted, it was reformatted because you could play gameson the computer for hours, but when you try to get on the internet you get between 10-20 of internet access then the computer locked up. Lights go off on network card, monitor does not receive a signal and you have to turn the power off from the power supply to get it to restart. At first I was thinking overheating but you can run the system all day just do not access the the internet. So then Ithought bad network card. Tried a different one and still have same issue. So I considred driver errors, went out and downloaded all the latest drivers for every piece of …

Free Windows XP Registry Cleaner Download
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 1 reply

Making use of a good quality registry cleaner is absolutely essential for you to ensure that your computers registry maintains a healthy state of operation. Lets take a look at three simple reasons why registry cleaners are so important. 1. Fix PC Errors The first reason is clearly to fix up your pc registry problems. When you install and remove software from your computer it causes residuals to be left behind on your hard drive which ultimately results in your registry becoming partially corrupted or erroneous. I'm sure the last thing you would want to see is that "Blue Screen of death" when you know that you have to reformat your computer. 2.Money Saving I a…
