Playing FLV videos on a TV from a DVD
by Guest jerry404@notvalid.com- 1 reply

I have a large collection of Youtube (and other) .FLV videos that I have saved. Is there any way to burn them to a DVD so I can play them on a TV using a tv type DVD player? I have a feeling they need to be converted to another format. I have no experience with burning DVD's other than just copying stuff from my harddrive as a backup. I've never made or even copied a DVD for TV use. Assuming I need to convert it, what software? Thanks

Invalid class string
by Guest Kindrick Ownby- 1 reply

All of a sudden my Canon digital camera software, ZoomBrowser, produces the message "Invalid class string" when I try to run it by double-clicking on the icon. The computer did freeze when accessing some web page recently, but I haven't run the camera software for some time. I re-installed the software that came with the camera, and I get the same result. Should I uninstall/delete all the camera stuff before the re-install? Any suggestions? TIA, Kindrick

Win98 Upgrades Service Pack & IE6
by Guest georget@unlisted.com- 1 reply

I just downloaded the Win98 Service pack (complete) that someone put together from all the MS Upgrades. When MS still had these upgrades on their website I got most of them. Maybe all of them, but I really dont know if I got all of them or not, since they used to come a little here and a little there. Is it safe to just run the whole thing now? Also, I got the complete installer for IE6. I never upgraded to IE6 and have always run 5.5. I have always been afraid of IE6 because of the problems it had, but I heard the earlier problems were solved, so I guess I'll give it a try. I was wondering if it has the "go back" option, if it fails (go back to the pr…

Discussion was originally entitled Computer failure - 02/19/2008, poster BAP, in this discussion forum. The discussion spread to two other computers and issues with those and their systems and other. I have split that discussion into separate discussions with headings for the individual potentials/issues. Please keep these discussions separated. BAP indicated that a discussion would be created for this computer, but I do not find it, so... Background, the Microtime computer had been running Windows 98SE until the computer started to fail. Presently diagnostic routines are being run through to attempt a recovery. This VAIO discussion concerns data recovery from…

erratic cursor problem
by Guest Resident- 1 reply
The cursor on my W98 system has developed a habit of erratically jumping all over the screen with the slightest mouse movement. A reboot cures the problem for a while. The hardware checks out ok, I'm running a KVM and switching to the other computer shows the mouse to be ok. Switching the computers ports on the KVM still leaves the problem on the same computer. Any ideas will be appreciated. Oscar

Everyday. You're hunched at the computer, flicking the keys with the greatest of ease - or, like me, poking each stroke with the speed of a...umm...well, it DID rhyme! Everyday. You're mesmerized for hours by the wonders of Internet business - you market, you negotiate, you design, you submit, you research, you chat...a lot... Everyday. Enthralled and empowered by your cyber-independence, you plan and scheme, plot and dream. While life in the REAL world goes on around you... "Hey Mom, can I have lunch now?? It's three o'clock!!" "Huh? Whaa...yeah, five minutes, honey...lessee, click here..." Funny how the daily grind hasn't ground to a halt…

Ripper virus removal
by Guest David W- 1 reply

Hello, I've not used this group before but if someone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Trying to fix friends laptop with 98 installed. Gets just past boot up then we get Norton warning (in a DOS screen) that the "Ripper virus was found in memory" and to press ok to continue. The screen then tells me I need a Norton rescue boot disk then shuts down the laptop. I know this seems a bit dense but I just thought I'd check that, given I don't have such a rescue disk nor am I likely to locate it, is there anything at all I can do other than throw the thing away? I could reload 98 if I could find a way to reformat the disc (and find th…

PrintDlg function failing with PD_RETURNDEFAULT
by Guest guddu- 0 replies

Hi, I am calling PrintDlg function with PD_RETURNDEFAULT flag set. ( I dont want the Printer Dialog Box) It fails. I have set the hDevNames and hDevMode to be NULL before calling the function PrinTDlg. For getting the error code I had called CommDlgExtendedError(). The error code returned was PDERR_NODEFAULTPRN. Error code implies that the default printer not found. But the default printer is configured for my machine. still why does it throw this error. Had tried PrintDlgEx function. Even that failed with the same error code PDERR_NODEFAULTPRN. Can anyone help me with this. TIA Guddu
