-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= why the. security services? -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You may ask,. why do I think the "they" referred to are the security services? Is there any evidence that. there is a single source, as opposed to a loosely. based "whispering campaign" amongst many people? Even if there is. a single source, is there any evidence that "they" are professional "buggers" as opposed to amateurs, or perhaps people working for. a privately funded. organization? a) As to. the question of a single source versus something more fragmented; it is quite obvious that there is a single source from the way the. campaign has been carried out…

Make Your Site Quick To Load!
by Guest xikom03@yahoo.com.tw- 0 replies

The time it takes to load your site can make or break a visitor's first impression of your site. If your site takes too long to load, the visitor will click "Stop" or "Back" and leave your web site. If you are a business and offering people important information, it is critical to have a nice design, with a quick load time. You may want to check out the load time of your page, to indeed see if your site loads quick enough for the average user. A great site tool can be found at http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ where you are able to enter your site and it displays a report on the time it takes to load your site on different connections, in add…

I am using ADSL, 2Mbit / s connection. Lately am having much difficulties in downloading big files. Downloading stops at around the point of 50 MByte or so. Just stay there, no error message, just stay there. Nothing. At first I thought it was IE that went nuts. So I tried downloading with FireFox. Same things happen. Then I tried Opera. Same thing ! If I use download manager like WellGet, the file can be downloaded, no problem. But if I try downloading large files with browsers, it just stay there, around 50 MBytes, it didn't say "error" or something, the download line still open, but even if I left it overnight, it still stays there. Dunno what t…

Hi, Well it didn't last long, around 6 days, but this time it "died" while I was downloading. I will not spend any more time trying to fix this Compaq Presario 1200XL110. I removed the 3V RTC/CMOS battery, which I bought new. I check the voltage (2.98V). Dead Computer - Power Supply or Motherboard?
by Guest Bill in Co.- 0 replies

Is there any simple test to eliminate one of those possibilities (for a completely dead computer - no lights, no fans, no hard disk activity, nothing)? I have read that it is possible to check the power supply by temporarily shorting two pins together, but I don't know which two pins, and I don't know if that will work without any load on the power supply. I do have a voltmeter, however. -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

Problem: Each time I download documents,etc...in PDF format, when I try to print said doc(s), a rectangle pops up stating "Unable to begin print job. Is printer available?" I then check if printer is connected...available,etc. It is. Even printed test page just fine. Tried switching from "doc" to "Image" on printer, as suggested @ Adobe help site, to no avail. Any ideas or suggestions out there would be appreciated. Thanks! 4justice -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

hello ppl simply wanted to download mobo drivers for an asus board,,, also a manual, (for an 'Asus A7N8X' if anyone can give....) thing is, seems obvious to me that asus's 'site' designer has done it to ensure you go round in circles,, and can never d/load anything. i even have a screen shot of a msg that comes up when i do a search for 'manual', it just says that 'word' is not in its database... and it was even entered in the 'keyword' box. does anyone here know of a good safe d/load place that i can get mobo drivers and manual from? (for the above model.) thx -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

by Guest dannydee@nospammm.com- 0 replies

I wanted to setup another connection using Internet connection wizard, and see if that would improve my modem speed. When I run ICW I get the following error message. "Internet connection wizard is unable to continue because password caching has been disabled. Contact your system administrator to have this setting enabled, then restart Internet connection wizard." How the heck do I enable this password caching? I don t recall ever disabling it in the first place, but I suppose this is something my ISP had me do, one of the last times they screwed up my settings. Please advise me how to change this setting. This is a home computer, there is no "system a…

by Guest SBoston- 0 replies

I recently had my HP computer restored and my hard-drive replaced. Some software was just added to the PC and now I get a pop up message that I need to activate Windows to log into my pc. There is no way around this so I am unable to use it. When I try to input the activation numbers and hit ok, it will not accept it and says i have entered an incorrect activation number. Can someone assist me here or explain what happened to cause this? I called Best Buy and they informed me they would need to reinstall Windows XP for $129. Thanks in advance. -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

Finding out what works, and maybe why.

Aside from churning out new OS revisions, some profit might be had from looking at current examples of old systems that, in spite of the status quo, have somehow managed to survive, in daily practical use, and without the benefits of a re-install. After all, with penicillin growing on stale bread, who knows what accidental benefits can be created by continually recovering from random errors over a length of time.......... This was always an informative aspect of hardware product development - getting some ancient and field returns that had been ridden hard and put away wet, to pore over (usually in your spare time, though, I'll admit). I'll be giving a couple of mp3 players as gifts for Christmas, but I want to upgrade the firmware first, since the kids are not really into that sort of thing. I'll be doing it from a Windows computer - does it matter that they run Macs? Note that after they get these they may elect to download the "MediaSource" program from Creative (supported by both OS's), which interacts with the player.

Hi, I bought an old Packard Bell "Multimedia C115" desktop computer from a friend of mine for $20.00. While he had it, he did a some upgrades (128M ram, USB ports, etc.). It has Windows 98SE. The Pentium processor speed is a 120Mhz. I would like to upgrade that to at least 200Mhz. Besides changing the CPU, what other changes would I have to make? Thanks in advance, Brad Before you type your password, credit card number, etc., be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC. -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway
