formatting hard drive

I formatted my slave hard drive and did a quick format (erase), instead of a complete format. I wanted to put another operating system on the hard drive and now I'm having problems loading it up. It says: Invalid system disk, replace the disk and press any key. I tried to get into BIOS but this message comes up. When I put Windows ME OS disk into it then it says: Boot from CD-ROM or boot from hard drive. When I chose CD-ROM and ran the operating system it got to the point where it says something to this nature: make sure to remove any floppy diskette and press any key to restart your computer. That's as far as I get. Maybe I should've done a complete format…

This is a repeat of last years post on the GA511NA pc card I put in my toshiba 225 cds laptop. I have tried several installs/uninstalls with no luck. The install wizard asks for the 98se disk sometimes and sometimes not. The device manager shows the yellow icon for this installation but I just can not get it to work. Did I have a virus?
by Guest MM- 0 replies

Windows 98SE PC was working fine. I had been downloading some files, e.g. RealPlayer. No apparent problems. Powered down. Later on, started it up again. There was some kind of error message at the DOS level where it said Abort, Retry, Fail. I said Abort. Then: Invalid System Disk etc etc. Drive C buggered. However, I booted up to DOS from a floppy and most (95%) of the folders and files on C appeared intact. But here's the important thing, certain key parts of the OS were gone! The VMM32 folder in Windows\System no longer existed, neither IOSUBSYS. Also, no MSDOS.SYS in drive C. But I had a very recent TrueImage image, so I just restored it. Since then I hav…

Bootup - Shutdown logger
by Guest PSRumbagh- 0 replies

I would like to produce a (text) file that shows when (date & time) bootup is completed and when shutdown is initiated. The file needs to append itself everytime bootup and shutdown occurs, i.e the file grows bigger with time. For example, over a year period the file will probably have many hundreds of entries in it. The program must NOT delete previous entries. Any suggestions? -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

Re: Problem Defraging Sys Drive (C:) I am forwarding this reply to both the performance group you replied to, and the thread in win98.gen_discussion, where all the other respondents are posting and waiting to hear from you. What were the exact errors scandisk found? I would be concerned about having to make two undo floppies in one scandisk session. If it was a file system problem, you may be OK, but if there is an underlying issue with the disk surface, you may need to consider replacing the drive soon. Without running Scandisk again, look for a file in the root of the C:\ drive named scandisk.log C:\scandisk.log If found, open it with Notepad,…

I bet you can't fix my DVD drive problem
by Guest anoyance@gmail.com- 0 replies

I recently got a DVD/CD drive that worked perfectly fine... for a while. I used it for some time and then one night we rented a movie (Finding Neverland) and watched it on our TV's DVD player. After watching it my sister came home and wanted to see it so my mom stuck it in again, but this time it didn't work. The player said that there was not even a DVD in the player. I decided then to take the DVD and let her see it on my computer (trying to be nice) and when I stuck the DVD in my drive, it too said no disk was in it. From that night on both the player and my drive didn't work. I could and can play CD's in it just fine, but no DVD works. The strangest and most …

Folder double-click or Open doesn't do anything
by Guest dave xnet- 0 replies

Some of the folders have this odd behavior while others are working normally. If I attempt to open (right click/Open) or double click, nothing happens. However, if I right click/explore, it operates normally and the explore window opens displaying the contents. Any thoughts on this? undeletable desktop icon?
by Guest none- 0 replies
Just installed IBM's bluetooth stack on a laptop. Was sooo glad! Started to do the traditional 'cleanup' of an install and found the 'My Bluetooth Places' icon on the desktop will not allow me to delete it. Tweakui does not show it on the 'desktop' tab for icons. I figure it must be a registry entry that needs removing but not sure. Can anyone help with some info. on how to delete this thing? Thanks Happy Bluetooth User (except for desktop icon) -- Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway

Starting up your PC
by Guest attilathehun1- 0 replies

I'm having problems starting up my PC at all. I think a wire is loose on the power button assembly. The power supply works, because I tried on another PC and it booted up. Isn't there a way to start your PC by touching 2 points on the motherboard? I took a PC class a while back and my teacher often started his PC by touching 2 points on his motherboard with a screwdriver? If there is a way to do that please tell me. Free Registry Cleaner Download Review
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 0 replies
- 312 views
The registry is a very sensitive component of the windows operating system which can most often be the core of any problems you may experience. The reason why is because it contains very important information about your computers hardware and software configurations which are stored in the form of registry keys. So basically every time you decide to add or remove software or upgrade hardware, those relevant entries in the registry will change. This causes it to become "clogged up" and will eventually lead to problems with functionality of programs and general performances. It would be great if computers would constantly function as if they were new, but unfortuna…

Starting your PC without the front panel power button
by Guest attilathehun1- 0 replies

I'd like to know how to start up my PC without the front panel power button assembly because my PC won't start or fire up. Nothing happens when I hit the power button. The power supply works, so I figure it might be the power button assembly that's the problem. I'm using a process of elimination to do this and the power button assembly is next on the process of elimination.
