Hi! I'm a French Public Notary using unethical practices with my clients and am also the proud father of two ugly kids. I have a question for you: When one of my clients, whom I sent my kids to for Hallowween and who also happens to be a Computer Scientist, orders to following items to my house and in my name over the Internet: 1/ Baby clothing (both for boys and girls); 2/ One Twin Stroller; 3/ a huge US style fridge; and then: 4/ Four 100 gallon freezers while she's signing me up with all the Internet providers in the country, How do I get to know whether she's doing it on purpose or NOT? Thanks for your prompt reply. PS: What do YOU th…

I have had several computers over the years and none of them would ever accept a CD Drive. I've probably owned 10 or more drives. My latest computer is a 1gh P3. It came with XP which was slow and I dont like XP anyhow. I installed Win98 instead. Once again no cd. The cd worked in xp, but not in 98. Normally I dont care. I never use them. I dont buy software I just download it and pay online unless its free. I have Win98 installation on a spare harddrive to install Windows. Recently I got a digital camera and a pocket calendar. Both send CDs. I cant get the drivers off the Cds so I cant use the camera,,,,, Myt email is limited in space. Is there…

CD Player has no sound.
by Guest Paradoxdb3- 7 replies

I'm just curious why the Windows CD Player does not play sound for me. Even after a fresh install, it doesn't. WMP has sound! What's the big deal with CD Player? I've disabled audio from the BIOS to let a new sound card work properly. It seems to me that this might have been the cause, but I may be wrong. I've also got a Creative CD Player that came with the sound card, and even it doesn't play sound!

98 SE UPGRADE

I have an IBM T1451 laptop running win 98. I have a WiFI card (PCMCIA)that I would like to use , but get a missing DLLFILE,CRYPTUI.DLL error when installing from the CD. The card says for version 98SE and newer. Is there any way to change win 98 to accept this Dlink DWL- G650+ card without updating to SE? I am trying to do this as inexpensively as possible and would prefer not to upgrade to 98 SE if in any way possible.(not feasible financially ) I tried a clean install of a WIN 98SE that someone gave me but around 40 files were missing. I am quite certain that it was a pirated version. Then I reinstalled my OEM 98 version, (athentic ) and now need…

Log Off question...
by Guest Paradoxdb3- 1 reply

Good evening, When I did a fresh clean install of Windows 98 SE, the final step was to enter a password on the startup/logon screen, with a message that said, "Tip, if you don't enter a password, you won't get this promp again". I have never entered a password, so that Windows will load as soon as I turn on my computer without me having to log on. I like it that way, since my computer is only for home use and only my wife and I use it. There's no need for a password. (Besides, from what I remember, you can simply hit cancel and Windows will load without the correct password) Now...there's a log off option in the start menu. What would happen if I …

Have you ever seen this?
by Guest ANTHONY DIODATI- 5 replies

this is a new one on me. Lets say I'm at a message board, I always open the topic in a new window, that way I just close it, and I am back to the list. What has been happening, when I close the "new" window, BAM, the original window also closes. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I just watched it happen. Closed the "new" window, and they both closed. Thanks, Tony

File size/Number of file limits 1 2
by Guest jambroo@gmail.com- 40 replies

Hello, We are having problems combining 2 directories under Windows 98. Basically, we are appending a few hundred files to a larger directory called 'Contracts'. When we copy over the files we get the following error: 'The directory or file cannot be created.' Both directories are on the primary C drive. The target 'contracts' directory is 599MB and contains 16135 objects. Is there a limit for FAT32 filesystems running Windows 98 which would cause this error to happen. I thought maybe there was a 600MB cap and it wasn't allowed to go over, however i copied a 5 MB file in there instead of some of the smaller files and it went to 605MB. I had a feeling it w…

Rename *.ITF with filename of TXT file
by Guest brettmanning24@gmail.com- 1 reply

Hello, Is it possible to use the rename command to rename a *.ITF file with the filename of a TXT file in the same directory. For example Directory 1 contains: DEAL1.ITF BRETT.TXT DEAL1.LOG Is it possible to rename DEAL1.LOG to BRETT.LOG (the same name of the TXT file). The TXT file will be a different name each time, therefore it needs to be some kind of variable rename i.e. always rename the .LOG file to that of the .TXT filename. Thanks, Brett

Re: Windows Media Player 7.1 no sound My Player Updated itself yesterday morning and I was having the same problems as I've seen all over. Some files would play some wouldn't. Videos would play but no audio. Some people are saying to install Codecs, which may work for the techy types. I downloaded DFX (Found the link on Microsoft's web site under plugins) and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!! Microsofts page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx DFX page it links too http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/index.php Hopefully I save some other people some time trying to figure this out and / or having to figure out what a friggin Codec is to s…

So I finally bought a laptop, but no restore CD
by Guest mm- 2 replies

OT, in that most of this is about winME, but you guys will know more than others will. I finally bought a laptop, and if I had had more time (it arrived today Thursday and I'm leaving Saturday) I might have bought something else, but it was only 92 dollars plus 30 shipping, and it does look nice, etc. And it's loaded with WinME, but he enclosed a Restore CD for win98. This isn't of much value is it? Not worth taking with me? OTOH, I already have an original install CD that a friend gave me for WinME. Won't that have all the advantages and more of a Restore CD? Should I use it and put all the .cab files on the laptop, so I will have all the drivers w…
