A strange request I know. I'm looking to fail a particular service automatically after another service fails. So for example service 'A' malfunctions and fails, as a result of this service 'B' is made to fail. Can this be done?

Hi, I have a new Dell server with Windows 2003 server and have a few questions I hope you can help me with: 1) Network has about 10 PC's on it and it set up as a WORKGROUP. Will W2003S let me confirure it in the WORKGROUP or will I need to convert to a Network w/a Domain? 2)If I can configure W2003S as a Workgroup, is there any reason I should convert network to a Network s/a Domain or is it best to leave as is? 3) Is there a way to copy users from old W2000S to the new W2003S or should I just build them from scratch since there are so few? Thanks in advance. KenP

by Guest gbug- 1 reply

Hi all, We're runing out of IP addresses on our current subnet (ie 192.168.1.x). My thought was to create a second subnet (ie 192.168.2.x) with the use of VLAN's, but im unsure of how the DHCP will work. I want to maintain just one DHCP server - is this possible, and how would it typically be setup?

How to know the disk's space during a process?
by Guest Don Juan- 3 replies

Hello all. I need to know if it's possible to know the size of a hard disk during a time. E.g. If I have a 100Gb HD, after run the process the HD will be 30Gb, but during this process the application generated temps and logs files. These files sometimes are so big and process crashes. I need to know the free space in disks by doing this test. (I run my application and only log files were about 20Gb after the installation the log files are delete automaticaly). May be there is a tool to measure it? Thanks a lot.

IAS / NPS Windows2008
by Guest Bob- 0 replies

Hello, in windows 2003 IAS has written information about connections into a logfile. This was done in realtime... so at the moment when IAS has authenticated a connection a record was written to the IAS-Logfile. It seems that Windows2008 IAS version (now in NPS) does not write connection information to a logfile in realtime but it it does cache it somehow and write it with some delay. We have written a monitoring software that scans the IAS logfile for changes in realtime... so we can see changes in connections in realtime. Now that Win2008 does not update the logfiles immediately our realtime-scanning software doesnt work anymore. Is there a…

How to tell which user installed software
by Guest Kryten- 6 replies
Hi, Is there a proven way of telling which user account was used to install software on Windows 2003 Server? My problem is that there are a dozen or so user accounts on the box which different ppl use. Sometimes they install updates which then cannot be uninstalled without knowing which account was used. It's trial and error to keep logging in and checking add/remove programs to see which account gets it to show up there. There must be a better way? Perhaps querying the registry? Here's hoping! We are having a problem with "something" on our network consuming all of our internet bandwidth. It is an intermittent problem but becoming a REAL problem. We suspect that the culprit may be our Windows SBS 2003. Does anyone know of a utility or tool which I can install on my server that will show specifics of what process(s) are using bandwidth, and how much? Thanks.

JdiskReport

Is there a utility like JDiskReport (http://www.jgoodies.com/freeware/jdiskreport/) available on Windows Server 2003 Standard? If not, should I install JDiskReport? One question I have is whether Java is already installed on the server. How can I tell? It is not listed in Add/Remove programs. Another question is whether I should install Java. I think not if it is just for this application. It's a great application that I use on my own computers, but I keep the server as pristine as possible, for obvious reasons.

Need help troubleshooting VSS

This is a test environment that I'm using to study for MCSA-2003. I have an eval copy of Server 2003 - SP2 on one computer. On another computer I'm running Virtual PC 2007 as the client (XP Pro SP2). Everything works fine as far as AD, DNS, Shares, etc. I have 2 hard drives in the server. On the C: volume I turned on Shadow Copy and scheduled it to run every day at 11:00am. As I write this, that was 50 minutes ago. The Shadow Copy storage location is on the 2nd drive. Under the Properties/Shadow Copies Tab, in the box for "Shadow Copies for Selected Volume" is the copy that ran at 11:00am. But, when I open a shared folder from my client PC, and c…

2003 or 2008 server
by Guest vdz- 4 replies

Hi all Now I have an option to choose either 2 X 2k3 or 2 X 2k8, one for DC and one for Exchange 07. I have never got hands on 2k8 and I am willing to learn too. With 2k3 I am comfortable with this. Currently we have 1x 2k3 AD DC. So please tell me what would you pick? and why? One more question: at the moment we have Lock out GPO in place and set in Domain and apply to every users including Administrator (me), we can't exclude the administrator in Wins 2k3 server, but I have been told that it can be done in Wins 2k8. Can we still exclude the adminstrator from Lockout GPO in mix environment 2k3 and 2k8? Many thanks in advance
