my server 2008 hard disk icons are broken. All other icons look fine, including removable disks, desktop icons, etc. But the hard disk icons have been replaced with the generic icon that appears for files with no association. screenshot: http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7616/60752309ox4.jpg what could the problem be?

Is there a way to output a full telnet connection process to a file? Here is what I have for other network tests in my script: psexec \\%SERVERIP% route print >> %SERVERNAME%-routeprint.txt psexec \\%SERVERIP% tracert foo.com >> %SERVERNAME%-Tracert.txt psexec \\%SERVERIP% netstat -an >> %SERVERNAME%-netstat.txt SRVINFO -NF \\%SERVERIP% |FIND /I "foo" >> %SERVERNAME%- ServiceStatus.tx When I add a line to telnet to a remote DNS to an specific port, the output file is always empty, whether it connects or fails. the best case scenario would be that I at least get a text output for a fail. I don't care about a success, since the res…

Why Registry Entries Disappeared
by Guest basis_consultant@hotmail.com- 0 replies

Hi, This is one of the strangest things that I have seen in years..... We have an SAP/Oracle system running on Win2003/SP2 (Xeon CPU). (For those interested, it is SAP R3 v47 running on Oracle 9i). There were about 10 or so SAP related registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - SAP - (SAP System ID) - Environment A few days ago, I stopped SAP and Oracle to make a config change. Oracle started well, but SAP had various difficulties starting. To my amazement, virtually all of the registry entries in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - SAP - (SAP System ID)- Environment" were missing. I fixed SAP's startup issues by adding the necessary entries …

WSUS 2.0 identifies Windows 2008 64 bit servers as Vista
by Guest MrMako- 2 replies

We are running WSUS 2.0 SP1 (Build 2.0.0.2620) on a Windows 2003 SP2 Server. We have not moved to 3.0 yet, but plan to in the future. We have begun introducing Windows Server 2008 64 bit to our domain and I noticed today that they are identified in WSUS as 64-bit version of Windows Vista under Operating system. Since they share the same kernel I thought maybe this was just a mislabeling such as seeing "Longhorn" once in awhile, but it still seemed very odd since the patches are labeled Windows Server 2008. I checked the critical updates for 2008 and none have installed. I checked the servers and none are waiting to install. So I believe since it has mis…

Hourly Online Defragmentation of dfsr.db
by Guest Matt Brown - nyc- 0 replies

Hello All, I'm having a persistent issue that began on the 7th of July. It appears that the DFS database is getting defragmented on an hourly basis. I can't find any information about the dfsr 3440. I believe it is causing unnecessarily high utilization of system resources. The event is logged as follows: Event Type: Information Event Source: ESENT Event Category: Online Defragmentation Event ID: 700 Date: 7/11/2007 Time: 12:00:09 PM User: N/A Computer: DYNAMIC-DC01 Description: Dfsr (3440) \\.\D:\System Volume Information\DFSR \database_3898_8D03_988C_C0BC\dfsr.db: Online defragmentation is beginning a full pass on database '\\.\D:\Syste…

big trouble with Server - as KB933994
by Guest Trapulo- 9 replies

Hello, I added a Windows 2003 Server to an existing 2000 domain, and made it an additional domain controller. All ok, I restarted, I made GC, all worked fine. Then I restarted an other time... boom. Every crytical windows services don't start more. Only RPC works: others (COM+, network connections, shell hardware detection, etc) don't start. It seems as KB933994 describes: the old group policy didn't assign "impersonate a client after authentication" to Service and Network accounts, so I think that the replicated policy has blocked the 2003 system. Now? I've tried to update policy on the W2003 server, but it doesn't apply it. When I run a gpupdate, i…

License server - can you help me understand this
by Guest Lynnex1138- 4 replies

As a new network admin in our small organization I am trying to understand the licensing and the license manager I have inherited. Now we are about to add two new servers to the domain. From what I understand about licensing, we shouldn't have to purchase any more if we make all of ours per server, because we already have enough for each user that could connect simultaneously. Here's my confusion: I go into Admin Tools\licensing…server browser… SV3 (the PDC) says 50 per server CALs purchased. But in the main window under product view it says the following: licensing mode Per seat Per Seat Per Svr Per Svr …

by Guest vishy- 0 replies

I have installed Microsoft Windows SDK in Windows XP for running my application which deals with Volume Shadow Copy Service. Application pops up a MessageBox with error "Application.exe - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point CreateVssBackupComponentsInternal could not be located in the dynamic link library VSSAPI.DLL". Tried the same application on Windows Server 2003 but with the same MessageBox popping up. Can anyone help me out what could be wrong?
