by Guest klafert- 1 reply

I had a problem where everyone was having problems with email, file maker and other services. I was getting different issues and calls from diffrent endusers. What steps should I take first if I am getting calls about multiple services from multiple clients that are all running off the same server? Would it be best to check the server and logs or start from each enduser. I am trying to make a list for my trainee on what steps should be taken in what order if this kind of problem comes up.

Hi, I am not able to navigate to our website without prefixing www. i.e we would like to be able to type myDomain.com into IE without having to type http://www.myDomain.com we have checked out DNS - see the screenshot. http://www.box.net/shared/7vrlahow8w Also, already gone to domain in DNS console and right click and create a new host - where the name is black and the IP address is the IP address of the website. So when I do a nslookup from inside the domain I get the domain controllers and IP address of the website. thanks for your help!

NTPClient on DC fails to contact time source (W2K3 R2 64-bit)
by Guest Dvord Direwood- 8 replies

Our W2K3 R2 64-bit DC has been up and running for some time, and getting time updates regularly. Last week, it started a spate of failed attempts which have become rather chronic. First, I followed advice to set the time source: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:time.nist.gov,0x8 /syncfromflags:MANUAL net stop w32time net start w32time w32tm /resync Had no luck. I verified that TCP & UDP ports 123 were available to the server and tested successfully with: w32tm /monitor /computers:time.nist.gov I also re-registered the service with: net stop w32time w32tm /unregister w32tm /register net start w32time Also to no avail. I did find a h…

WMIC question
by Guest JohnB- 1 reply

I don't see a specific group for WMIC questions so I'm trying this one.... I'm trying/playing with WMIC for the first time. I want to see a list of installed software on a local computer, and output the list to an html file. In a batch file I have these commands: wmic /node:server01 os assoc /output:c:\test\output.htm /format:htable The batch file runs and the list of installed software scrolls by on the screen but, the batch file ends with 2 error messages, both saying: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. What is wrong with my syntax? Thanks

I have a raid card ordered with the server. when and how is the best time to create the raid array and the partitions on the drives? when I connect all 8 drives, will the system ask me if i want to create a raid?

Offline File Weirdness
by Guest Anthony R. Vallario- 2 replies

I've got a user having problems with offline files. His user profile is setup on one of our Windows 2003 SBS boxes, and his laptop is setup to use it offline when he's away from the office. Two files don't seem to get carried over correctly we he sync's at the end of the day, Outlook.NK2 and rasphone.pbk. There will be no errors in the sync, and the offline files folder will show these two files being present. Sure enough though, when he gets home the shortcut to his vpn connection does nothing and Outlook has no autocomplete. Outlook will then create a new autocomplete, which will inturn over write the one stored on the server when he comes back to the of…

ISA Svr and Terminal Server
by Guest Geoff Schaller- 2 replies

I am looking for some best practices advice please. We currently have to replace our ISA Svr box with new hardware. At the moment this box only does this plus WSUS and virus management. Basically nothing. However the organisation is about to install a TS server to service about 60+ remote users. Originally we were going to place a second box behind the ISA server to do this but wondered if the TS workload could go on the ISA box to save on hardware? So the question is: would it be ok to combine TS and ISA on the same box or should we stick to the original plan of TS behind ISA? What do other people do here? Thanks, Geoff Schaller Software Object…

Printing problem - need to restart print spooler service
by Guest Sleb- 6 replies

Hi, I am out of ideas. Here is my problem; On a windows 2003 which is the only server on the network, all the tcp/ip printers are installed on it. All printers on the workstation are installed from the server. What happens is that on the hp laserjet 2200, print jobs are staying in the queue and the printer shows offline on the server (happens from time to time). When this happens; - I can ping the printer without problem - I can go into the GUI of the printer, don't see no errors - All other printers are fine (so users can print on all other printers except this one) - I have to restart the print spooler service on the server. When I do that, all p…

DCOM error
by Guest newguy- 4 replies

I am getting this error on my 2008 server. Its running as a DC and DNS. Our other server is a 2003 server running as DC and DNS. DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer 24.29.1.219 using any of the configured protocols. the ip resolves to my ISP. I don't know why the server is doing this. I don't think it should be trying to communicate with the ips server any way. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this error.
