[WIN 2k3] IPSEC/Net/device problems
by Guest K_L- 1 reply

I was doing some hardware changes with my HP Blade 460c. After that I couldn't get to internet. I noticed that IPSEC and Taskmanager services were down. I pulled the error messages from IPSEC with netsh. I can't get the to see my hard disks from disk management either. It' says that access denied. Could this be somehow related to the Windows 2000 domain that the 2003 computer is part of? Any ideas are welcome. 1 backup Device or multiple
by Guest Al- 3 replies

Hey all, I need some *polite* argument points please :) I work at a consulting company who manages networks for their clients. I'm reletively new here but something strikes me as unusual: In many cases, where there are multiple servers, they also use multiple backup devices. For example: FS1 has a backup device AS1 has a backup device TS1 has a backup device The argument they give is that it is more than a single point of failure and if one backup failes or they forget to put in a tape, then chances are that the other ones will pass. Basically they are not relying on 1 tape drive to do it all (lets say use a 400/800 instead of 3 x 200/400 lto drives)…

Trying to Test Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services
by Guest dan- 6 replies

I'm trying to test the use of Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008 Standard but I can't quite get it to work. I've installed the Terminal Services Role and published my Remote Applications using Office 2007 applications for the test. When I try to access the programs using http://myserver.com/ts using Vista SP 1, I can see the programs on the web page and even open them (e.g. Excel) but I immediately get an error message saying " this feature is not supported", and I can go no further. I should mention that my Vista SP1 is a virtual machine on the same Windows 2008 server, running under hyper-v. I'm too new to virtual machines to know if that's causi…

different option for setting TS permission?
by Guest Chris- 3 replies

1. using ADUC on a server (domain controller or standalone server), go to user object properties, under Terminal Service Profile, there is a option as "Deny this user permissions to log on to any Terminal Server". The ADUC version is 5.2.3790.1830 2. using ADUC on a XP (installed as admin package for XP) the option change to "allow logon to terminal server". The version of ADUC is 5.2.3790.0. Why they are different? Is there a way to make it the same, especially on XP? a new adminpak? I know the dial-in Tab on xp has to be enabled through some special process. But just realized the difference with the TS option. Any idea why it's like that (ot…

Windows 2003 R2 (primary corporate AD/DC/GC/KCC/DNS/NIS server) takingLONG boot time
by Guest Rob Gordon- 1 reply

Our primary Windows 2003 R2 Server takes an extremely long time to . The server will first hang quite a while at the "preparing network connections" prompt, and then again at the "applying computer settings" prompt. It will eventually bring up the login prompt and allow me to log in, but once in, I can see a number of alerts in both the Application and System Event Logs, and additionally I have to manually start the Server for NIS service. One of the first errors I see in the Event Log is this: Event Type: Warning Event Source: LSASRV Event Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator) Event ID: 40960 Date: 5/3/2008 Time: 4:22:11 PM User: N/A Computer: SERV…

Hello, We are using WinXP on our intranet and want to; 1) Implement a copy protection system. The user can not copy any data to a removable media. This musn't interfere with program installing, saving and copying within intranet. *if possible* the user cannot email any data outside the intranet. 2) I want to track the users login & logout time.(or computer started / shut down time). Do I need a third party program, or do I have to use some management tools from windows services? Any lead will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Windows XP Registry Repair
by Guest jeremiah wright- 1 reply

The Windows registry on your PC is a set of files which store all the essential settings for hardware, the operating system, the control panel, application software, user preferences and user profiles, and file associations (which programs run which types of files). How is Windows XP registry repair done, and why does the Windows registry ever need to be repaired anyway? At the bottom of this article, there is a link to a resource page which gives access to software tools you can use to repair the registry. Repairing or cleaning the registry can also be done manually, using the program regedit.exe (Registry Editor), which comes with Windows XP, or with reg.exe f…

RASDIAL sintax
by Guest Smith- 3 replies

Hi, I'd like to use RASDIAL for automatic dial-up Internet connection. I've checked KB article http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/24d5d8bf-fe87-498c-b485-7c249affcc721033.mspx?mfr=true but regarding this text I cannot establish automatic connection. RASDIAL says rasdialConnectionName [userName [{Password | *}]] [/domain:Domain] [/phone:PhoneNumber] I tried to use: rasdial CONNECTION_NAME username [{password}] but there was an error message "Remote access error 691, username or password is invalid" I'm 100% sure that username and password are correct (tried with manual dial-up connection), so definitely I missed RASDIAL syntax…

Recovery Console question

Folks: I am making some changes to our SBS 2003 Server this weekend and some questions have arisen that need fast answers... We are working on a server which is a domain controller. (SBS 2003) I am using Acronis True Image for Windows Server and I have a good backup of my Drives... The original Drive Arrays (they were too small so we had to upgrade to larger drives) have all been removed to make room for the new, larger hard disk arrays and the HP SmartController has been reconfigured to support the new RAID 5 configuration with 3 hard drives. So I cannot go back to the original setup. Acronis Tech support said I can restore th…

Hi. We are currently looking to deploy some Windows XP workstations on a 2003 Domain for development purposes. We are using a mix of mandatory profiles and general domain users that have NO roaming or mandatory profile. We are finding that the XP workstations are storing a local copy of the mandatory profiles and the gerneral domain user accounts as well. Can anyone confirm whether Windows should automatically remove Mandatory profiles when the user logs off, and if so can anyone suggest why a copy of the profiles are being left behind ? Similarly can anyone recommend how we can allow users with a basic domain user account (no roaming or mandatory pr…

directory sort order
by Guest Sandy- 2 replies

On my old 'puter the sort order for a directory listing such as A:/ ... w/be as such: t619 t6190 t6191 & so on on the new 'puter or PC, I get: t619 t6190 t695 t6950 t6191 ......... with other numbers/file names in between So, it sorts according to the first letter & the second letter (or in this case number), but then it loses the order. I want (as I had before) all the t619 series listed together & in alpha/numeric order. Old system was Windows98 SE, this new system in XP ... not that I think it should make a difference. Ideas? -- Sandy

I have a Windows XP 64 bit workstation. I want to set it up so that I can dual boot a Windows Server 2003 Standard 64 bit edition (with that being the primary if no selection is made). I have four physical hard drives in the machine. XP is installed on the first one, drive c. I'd like to install Server 2003 on the 4th one (F:) Can anyone give me some pointers on how to do this? I've done some googling, but haven't come up with any good results. Thanks!

Strange performance on Windows 2003 EE SP2
by Guest flybean- 0 replies

Hi all, I met a strange performance issue on Windows 2003 Enterprise X64 Edition with SP2 / Intel Xeon 3G(4chips * 4cores/chip) . On the server, there is a j2ee containner with some applications. A simple jsp code to query/insert/update some tables after the client clicked the submit. The clients complained that this update is slowly. I did a test on both the server and another pc. The result is very strange: From the server, the code executed costing 400ms, while 5+ seconds from PCs! The execute time is output in the jsp code, such like: System.out.println( new Date().getTime() ); ..... do updates ... System.out.println( new Date().getTime() ); …

Question

I am thinking of creating an own net for the servers so that they listen among if, but in turn, some of these servers, they should see the internal net for the users. I have all the servers with two net cards: NIC1: 10.0.100.x NIC2: 172.16.0.x My doubt. Server1 with 10.0.100.11 / 172.16.0.11 Server2 with 10.0.100.12 / 172.16.0.12 Server3 with 10.0.100.13 / 172.16.0.13 If I throw a process - do we put a robocopy - from Server1 to Server2 and do I want that he goes for the net 172.16.0.x, as I make it??, do I need a router?, to configure the switch??, static routes??? Thank you and forgive the nuisances.

No Help and Support Center
by Guest Al- 6 replies

Ok. I know I'm in the wrong area, but it seems that "Microsoft Support" of any kind has become rather amoebic and spread out over God Knows where, and I've spent the last three hours just trying to find the right area to ask We're running Win 2K3 R2. I've got two identical servers (IBM x3650) running the 64 bit OS. On one of them, the "Help and Support Center" no longer runs, from ANY application, nor via "F1", nor from the Start menu. I've checked the "Data Execution Prevention" settings (which, by the way, won't let me change the 64Bit executables) and I've checked the registry for application file locations. I'm at a complete loss as to what happened.…
