Hello, After installing another HBA-card I lost all my SCSI or HBA devices. I was installing HP MPIO for Eva 4000, when I got blue screen. I managed to restore my system to a ide hard disk. Now all my SCSI controllers say that "A driver for this device was not required, and has been disabled." if I check them from device management. Same if I try to reinstall drivers. Any idea what could cause this?

Redirecting users

Hi, I'm not sure if if this is the right forum but here goes. I have a problem in that I have a load of Word documents with attached templates that are on a now defunct server. The problem is that Word now hangs for a long time looking for its template on non-existent server(it has been moved to a new server). Further investigation showed that this location is hardcoded in the Word document. A guy called Terry Farrell on the Word discussion group said that the only solution is to use the Windows Server Redirect command to redirect any requests for templates on the dead server to the new location. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Also, where would any …

Print Server Issue

I have an odd issue. I have a Windows 2003 server I am using as a small print server. When I connect to it using \\server and then choose Printers and Faxes the window hangs for several minutes then finally populates. I do not have any issues printing from it just connecting to it remotely. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for any help. -- kman ------------------------------------------------------------------------ kman's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=47723 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=959184 http://forums.techarena.in

Rights to run Server Manager from client?
by Guest Peter- 2 replies

When we ran a Windows 2000 domain, I could appoint a certain number of selected staff members as "Server Operators". This enabled them to use Server Manager to disconnect sessions for students who had not logged off properly. Since we moved to Windows 2003-R2 (SP2) such a staff member can open Server Manager and when he/she clicks on a Domain Controller, he/she can control sessions. However when clicking on a Member Server, the message "Access is denied" is displayed As administrator equivalent I can get into both DC and Member server. It just affects "Server Operators". Client computers are Windows XP SP2. The server manager executable is V5.2.3790.1127. In…

chkdsk raid 5
by Guest Joshua Bright- 7 replies

I have been getting insufficent memory errors when I attempt to copy large pst files from our file and print server. This is also the case when I try to run scanpst (yes, I know there is no support for networked psts). My question is if it is ok to run chkdsk over a raid 5 volume? I have ran it in read only mode, but am concerned about possible corruption. Any words to the unwise on how to conduct preventative maintanance on a RAID 5 volume?

Greetings, I need one 2003 server in my domain to run on a different timezone for a specialized application that is time sensitive. If I change the TZ, the DC changes it back. Even if I script to change it, launch my app, disconnect the session, when I reconnect, the TZ is changed back. Any ideas?

When you have to backtrack and downgrade a DC
by Guest CryptiniteDemon- 3 replies

Okay, so I have this book from Microsoft that's basically a guide to get from NT 4.0 to Server 2003. Of particular interest is the section where they talk about going back to an NT DC if there's and installation error or something. Now basically the procedure is: Keep a BDC off line just in case. When something goes wrong, take all 2003 DCs off the network Promote the BDC to a PDC. And I would imagine this works fine if no computer had ever logged on to the new domain. But say you got everything up and running just fine on 2003 and a few days later decided you needed to go back to NT for some reason. This is the scenario I'm trying to simulate. …

Hello, I have an existing path: c:\>PATH=C:\Program Files\HP\NCU;C:\Program Files\Support Tools\; I want to add F:\bea\jdk141_05\bin> to it. If I just say Path=F:\bea\jdk141_05\bin; it will overwrite all the other path info. How do I get it just to add to the end, and only for this session. After the reboot, i do not need it again. Thanks, Tmuld.

I know I can use various tools to view running process's what TCP\UDP ports they are using and even see sessions they have open over the network. Is there any way I can see how much bandwidth is being used or traffic being generated by these process's. I have to show how much bandwidth a particular service running on my Windows server is genertaing. Thanks.

How does Licensing Work
by Guest Griff5w- 4 replies
I am curious about how the licensing works. I have a server that is running Windows Server 2003 and MSSql Server 2000. We have five user machines running XP. If I understand correctly, Win2003 and MSSql come with 5 Client licenses. What if I need to add another user? We don't use Active Directory are anything like that. We are only using the server to host the database that our application connects to. So, if I need to add a sixth user, do I need more licenses for Win 2003 AND MSSql? And what about Terminal Services? I am thinking maybe of moving our users over to Linux/Mac computers and having them access that one application via TS. How does that…

Anyone running Java on WS 2008?
by Guest Dominick- 19 replies

Is anyone running Java (32 bit) on IE7 under Windows Server 2008? I have done all the steps to try and trouble shoot this, but it does not support applets on my machine. I have reset IE7, uninstalled, confirmed uninstalled with Windows Install Cleanup, turned off AV and antispyware, reinstalled, and when I go to a test applet page the JRE (v 6u6) shows in the system tray, and a blank window pops up with a little Java icon in the top left corner, but nothing happens on the IE7 web page that should show a test applet running (one of the standard ones on the Internet, not anything I wrote). The kicker is, JRE runs fine with Firefox. To me this looks li…

Permission on Files/Folders
by Guest GovAdminGuy- 0 replies

I had a typo in the subject...re-posting my question: Using a command line tool such as XCACLS.exe, XCACLS.vbs, SetACL or a similar tool, can we change the permissions so one user/group can only list files but not read them (to see how big the files are)...Effectively, list on all folders and contents but no read access...Is that possible perhaps with a combination of allow/revoke? BTW-I am already using Access Based Enumeration on that server.

Server 2008 and Windows Vista both ship with v6.0 of diskpart, which adds the ability to shrink disk partitions. Does anyone know if that version can be safely run under Server 2003 and Windows XP? Thanks, BJ

Hi there. A year ago or so we built this monster server for files with a RAID-5 array it has just about 3TB of disk in it total. I just noticed today in Disk Management that we actually only partitioned 2048GB of it (I guess the limit for a single filesystem?) and that there is almost a 900GB 'unallocated space' block sitting there unused. Windows will not allow me to create an additional partition in that 900GB space. Any advice? -Drew

Windows 2008 FTPS Virtual Directory
by Guest Steve Halvorson- 3 replies

Good Day, I am trying to setup a ssl ftp site for secure communication to our bank. My initial setup was to a local directory and that worked fine, However, for the production environment I need to utilize a virtual directory on another server. I setup a file share on the destination server to recieve the files and gave permissions to the folder to my ftp client. I set the authentication to the directory to the specified users (from pass though auth) When I test the mapping and permissions everything appears to be fine. When I try to connect however, I get "530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible" I could really use some assistance in …

Configuring Local Exchange POP3 / Dns Problems
by Guest joshyme1@gmail.com- 1 reply

I am using Windows 2003 Enterprise which is overkill but we are running a specialized application that will not run on Windows Server small business. I have installed Exchange 2003 and plan to use iGetmail. My problem lies that I have evidently configured something wrong with DNS. My server name is topdog and my domain name is the same to which I will be receiving email. Now when I go to my server and attempt to use it, it doesnt recognize it as an internet address and comes back with a reply from its local address 192.168.1.101. Therefore when I configure the iGetmail program it doesn't recognize my mail server. This is probably over kill for a small offi…
