by Guest Paul- 2 replies

Hi - I have a load of old backup tapes that I need to get the data from as quick and easily as possible. What's the best software for this? Just plain and simple data retrieval?? I have a good budget I can use if needed. Also I think one or two tapes might be corrupt too, so if it could handle then that would be great! Thanks Paul

Hyper-V Update on Windows Web Server 2008?
by Guest Wojciech Kowasz- 1 reply
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone tried to install Hyper-V Release Update (KB950050) on Windows Web Server 2008 x64? It has shown up recently in my Windows Update as a recommended download, but as far as I know, Web Server is not licensed to have Hyper-V role installed. I would go for it providing it is some kind of management tools only - I don't want a full Hyper-V on my web server as it would mess it up... Could someone please help me? What exactly will be installed after KB950050 on Web Server x64? Is it safe to install in this scenario? Thanks in advance, Best regards, Wojciech Kowasz

File and Folder Permissions
by Guest Brandon- 2 replies

Hi, Running Windows Server 2003 SP2. Have problem with users saving files to a network share. When they click save as in Excel, it says that the file already exists (which it does not) then says that the folder is marked as read only (again, which it is not). The file is created with a 0Kb size. Share permissions are set to full control, and folder permissions are as follows: read, write and execute. I tried using notepad to do the same thing, and works like a charm, even though it also says that the file already exests, but allows you to save the file with the data in it. What am I missing here? Thank you!

2008 Terminal Server Licensing
by Guest Chris- 1 reply
I am bringing up my first 2008 terminal server. When I install terminal services it says that I need to connect to my license server. My 2003 License server is a Win 2003 Domain Controller. All my Terminal Services CALS were purchased with Software Assurance, so they will not need to be replaced with 2008. Will my 2008 Terminal server, recognize these Terminal Servers CALS on this License server? Will I need to install a 2008 License server? Will I need to contact Microsoft to get the MTS CALs installed on the 2008 license server (If one is needed)? Is there anything else that it sounds like I am missing? Thanks Chris -- ccoates

Domain login errors

Hello, We recently installed a new Windows 2003 server; set it up as an additional domain controller; transferred the FSMO roles from our existing Windows 2000 DC server; demoted our old server and removed it from the network. We have approxiametly 200 clients that login to our network. 25% Vista Business and 75% XP Pro. Since the change over we are getting "The system cannot login because the domain (example) is not available.". We don't get the message on all of the clients, only on about 25 machines. I've disjoined and rejoined them to the domain with no problems. The Vista machines work with no problems, we've only seen the problem on XP. If I …

Hi peeps, I will be installing a new exchange server into a 2000 domain which already has an exchange (2000) server in. I've found this migration document on the internet http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating-Exchange2000-Exchange-2003-Hardware.html but my query is doing the adprep on the existing domain controller (2000 server) is that going to cause and future problems or will it be ok in the log run. Ladies and Gents, I got a database server on a remote location which I want to join to my new active directory infrastructure based on 2003. The database server has an IP address of 172.1.9.2/16 and my dc's in the main location 10.0.216.1/21 and 10.0.216.2/21. From both location I am able to ping etc. Now when I want to join the database server I am unable to do so. After I putted in the credentials I recieve after 10-15 sec the error "The RPC server is unavailable". All ports are open between my main and remote location. Anyone got an answer? Below a copy of netsetup.log from the database server 07/09 09:28:39 ------------------------------------…

by Guest Jim in Cleveland- 5 replies

We have a Windows 2003 Server DC and I was looking at the used space. While looking at the Windows directory I noticed a subdirectory called Software Distribution. A subdirectory of that was Download. There is a total of about 800MB of files in this directory. Some of the files are a few years old. What is this folder and can any of these files be deleted without any negative affect on the system?
