Access Based Enumeration causing email link problems
by Guest Gunnertac- 0 replies

My file server is setup reasonably simple like this. \\server\root directory is where all permissions start. Employees are granted only Traverse Folder\Execute File and Liste Folder\Read Data permissions. This lets them get through to lower folders without being able to add/modify root level folders. At the next level folder employees have custom permissions which is Full Access checked and then edited in Advanced Security to remove Full Control, Change Permissions and Take Ownership. All other permissions are granted and nothing is denied. This gives the employees pretty much full access to that lower level folder and they can add, remove, modify...ev…

Access Based Enumeration enabled

Hi.. I have a I386 Windows 2003 R2 SP2 with ABE enabled for all shares, (and I have checked the properties of each share as well) The security permissions to the file are currently set to domain admins only, the share permission is domain users.. but ordinary domain users can still see the share.. (with access denied) I thought the shares were not suppose to be invisible to those without access? Any troubleshooting ideas would be appreciated Donna

Access Control on listening ports
by Guest requeth@gmail.com- 0 replies
I have a few servers that have ports open and listening for data, but I've found some security vulnerabilities with leaving them open. The ports are needed to talk between several known servers. Does anyone know a way to make it so only the servers that need to talk to each other can access the open port, any other server/machine that tries to hit the port gets server refused or something of that nature? I could have it done with a lot of firewall rules on my routers, but I really want this taken care of on the servers rather then through the routers. Ideas oh smart admins?

For some reason when i want to add an ODBC connection, there are only Microsoft SQL options in the list, and not Access (which is what i need). Does anyone know how to get the Access options to appear? I thought they should usually be there by default. thanks in advance

Access Denied (Printers) on Served from Server 2003
by Guest Mr. Smith- 3 replies

I have a few printers being served from server 2003, latest service packs/updates. Problem is that from time to time, more than I would like to deal with and to the point where users are upset over it. They are receiving an Access Denied Error when going to use the printers. If I was to reboot the workstation that is experiencing this it seems to go away. Can someone please shed some light on this for me as I am in loss as to why this is happing, and need to correct it? I am in an active directory domain, the printers are shared to allow everyone print rights, and also to allow all users of the domain print rights.

Access Denied Error
by Guest Teke640- 1 reply

Converted our files system to server 2003 from Netware 6.5 this weekend. We did a backup and restore procedure using BackupExec (Back up netware, restored to Server 2003). We adjusted rights the rights to reflect group memberships in AD and drive mappings are done via logon script. Some, not all users, are receiving Access Denied errors when accessing folders on the mapped drives. Group Membership is correct, the share permissions are correct and the file permissions are correct. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Access denied on a particular file
by Guest Muzzzy- 9 replies

Hi, I'm running a Win2003 R2 server with AD (at home for file sharing); yesterday i decided to do a backup by just copying the D: drive onto a 1 TB external drive. On one file it gave "Access denied" error and so far I can't find a way to get rid of it: 1. I'm running as a user with admin rights, but still i changed ownership of the file to myself - didnt help; 2. I checked if file is locked by a process (which would be weird as this file is not used - it's a part of an old archive) - none. 3. I ran couple of different antiviruses overnight - none 4. Ran chkdsk - didn't find any problems I need to note that problem exists if i try to do anything with…

Access denied on Iomega Network drive in Windows 2003 R2
by Guest Bruce Wallace- 0 replies

We have an Iomega 250Gbyte network hard drive that was used to back up files from a Windows 2000 server that has failed. This drive was available to all users on our network. We have installed a new server running Windows 2003 Standard Edition 32 bit with no access controls specifically invoked. The Iomega drive can be found and mapped in Windows Explorer but none of the folders or files on it can be seen or accessed. Any attempt to create a new folder, for instance, gives 'Access is Denied'. We have added now a second (new) Iomega 250 Gbyte drive that gives the same result. These drives are also now no longer accessible by other users on the network, whi…

Access Denied through MMC over network
by Guest stufeatherston@gmail.com- 0 replies

I am unable to connect to any servers or other workstations in my domain from my workstation. I am attempting to remotely connect via different MMC snap-ins. I get Access Denied when trying to connect to remote computers for IIS or Group Policy management. If I attempt this on other workstations it allows me to do it, so it must be some setting on my workstation. I have domain administrator rights. I was able to connect remotely fine up until about a month ago and I don't remember making any changes around the time this started happening. Any ideas?

Access Denied to COM Security using Admin Account
by Guest Asad Malik- 1 reply

Hello, I was hardening the security of my windows server and i read the document about MSDTC that if you don't need it then disable. And this is exactly what I did. I stopped and disabled MSDTC service. And then i removed Anonymous Logon & Everyone permisson (Local Access & Remote Access) under component service for COM security. I restarted the server, logged in as Administrator and got access denied to most of the tasks such as creating users or adding users to group. The worst thing is that i can't even Right-Click on any object to check the properties. I tried to bring back the permission on the COM security but failed as I’m getting access …

I am an administrator of a Windows Server 2000 active directory network and do allot of remote administration on users computers. When trying to check the event log or check user groups on a remote machine using computer management I get an access denied error. Now I can still get to the admin share on remote machines and this method works perfectly on Windows 2000 boxes. The error is only on XP and Server 2003 machines. Something else that is broke is the ability to do remote installs of Symantec Anti Virus. I can not push out installs from my desk. After some googling I have seen some posts about updating Active Directory to work with XP and Server 20…

Access Is Denied - HELP!
by Guest Dave Durand- 3 replies

Scenario... Two forests, one domain (parent only) in each forest. User accounts are in DOMAIN1 and I have some disk shares in DOMAIN2 that I'd like to grant access to. First off there is a trust between both domains. The trust isn't transitive but I'm assuming that is because neither domain has any child domains....please correct if I'm wrong. Each side of the trust is configured with Domain-wide authentication. To grant the permissions, I created a universal group on DOMAIN1 and put my users in the group. On DOMAIN2 I created a domain local group and put the universal group from DOMAIN1 into the previously created domain local group on DOMAIN…

by Guest Craig- 1 reply

Hello all, I am running a Windows 2003 file server for the past 3 months now. I administer it through RDP, and can obviously make changes to permissions, configurations and whatever. Last week, I realized I couldn't access a folder when I connected through Remote Desktop. I can check the properties, permissions and users allowed to see the folder. Today another folder on a different share is giving me the same error. Has anyone heard of not being able to access a folder on the server, when your logged on to the server, as an adimistrator?
