I've googled and search MS KB's and can't figure out why my local admin account is being disabled on fresh RIS imaged PC's. here is my riprep.sif from my most used image. You will noticed i have the line "EnableAdminAccountOnDomainJoin = 1" in there. However, i've tried 3 variations. Removing that line, keeping the original which is "DisableAdminAccountOnDomainJoin = 1" but chaning the 1 to 0 and 3rd is having the current line. Anyone have any suggestions? ------------------------------------ [data] floppyless = "1" msdosinitiated = "1" OriSrc = "\\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%" OriTyp = "4" LocalSourceOnCD = 1 EnableAdminAccount…

by Guest TimeTraveller- 0 replies
Greeings, not sure if this should be with server or XP group, but here goes. I have Quicktime player installed on XP Pro machines. Latest SPacks and updates applied. In Win2003 R2 Domain, and users have mandatory profiles and run at user level. Problem is getting Quicktime settings ( in the Quicktime applet in control panel ..ver is 7.3 or thereabouts ) to stick. For example if I open up the Quicktime Applet in control panel, and want to uncheck Play Movies automatically or set Mime settings so that Quicktime is default MP3 player, I can check and uncheck these settings, however when I close the applet, the settings are lost. I need to find a way to …

Access Denied through MMC over network
by Guest stufeatherston@gmail.com- 0 replies
- 134 views
I am unable to connect to any servers or other workstations in my domain from my workstation. I am attempting to remotely connect via different MMC snap-ins. I get Access Denied when trying to connect to remote computers for IIS or Group Policy management. If I attempt this on other workstations it allows me to do it, so it must be some setting on my workstation. I have domain administrator rights. I was able to connect remotely fine up until about a month ago and I don't remember making any changes around the time this started happening. Any ideas?

Hey I have gotten this BSOD twice in the last 10 days on my production phone server. I have two dump files but I admit fully that i'm no good at reading them and I can't make heads or tails of them. It happened while we were rebooting the machine. There is a phone system running on it and that uses SQL server 2000 as it's reporting mechanisim. Any ideas what's going on? The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000096 (0x81f8b618, 0x820f6e90, 0x808b0560, 0x81f8b7bc). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Here is what I get when I do a !analyze - v kd> !analyze -v ********************************************************…

Group policy for auto arrange?
by Guest CryptiniteDemon- 0 replies

Is there a group policy for auto arranging on the desktop? I noticed that all the computers at school have this applied to certain user profiles and I was just wondering if it was a group policy option or if it's probably a script they made. If it is a script, where would I get this because I would like to implement some tests on it with my test network at work.

Question about 2003 / Nt interopability
by Guest CryptiniteDemon- 6 replies
Okay, yet another question from me. Say I have an NT PDC and an NT BDC. I upgrade the PDC to 2003, and the BDC still serves as a Domain Controller in the domain. Now, hypothetically, say something goes horribly wrong after a few weeks and we decide we can no longer be on 2003. Also, most of the network computers have logged into the upgraded domain since then, adopting the new DNS structure. Can I remove the 2003 box, then promote the NT BDC to a PDC and have the network act as if I had never done the upgrade? Or will I have to write a script to get all the computers to rename themselves to the old domain name?

batch - did it run?
by Guest David L.- 1 reply

Hi I'm using a batch file to call an SQL backup process. When run manually, it works fine. I have used the 'at' command to schedule execution. I do not see the results of the backup. How can I find out if the batch is actually launched? i.e. is there a 'trace'? a log file entry? Any ideas as to what might be causing it to fail? Thanks David L.

COM+ freezes in Windows 2003
by Guest Hisham Abbas- 0 replies
Hi everybody, Anybody found a solution for the COM+ freezing in 2003. Of course any application that's using COM+ will stop responding. I read the solutions posted here suggested updating to the latest service pack and we did. Another suggestion was to restart the COM+ but our clients doesn't really like to restart the COM+ every once in a while and we keep getting these calls to fix the problem. The problem originally started due a race condition happening in the DeleteTimerQueueTimer method. Did anybody find a real solution for this problem...? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm having problem configuring Report Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. After I installed SQL Server 2005 Reporter Server I execute "Report Services Configuration" and in "Web Service Identity" I can't change the "Aplication Pool" to "ReportServerPool" in "Report Manager" field. In field "Report Server" the change is OK, because of this the Report Server site doesn't work, if I use "Classic .Net Pool", the site doens't work either, but the error is different this time says that the web service is unable to access security information, I tried to change the ReportServerPool to classic but no result, tried to change the service account in the R…

by Guest JohnB- 11 replies

What's the difference between Folder Redirection and Offline Folders? In experimenting with this for the first time, it "seems" like they are at least very similar, because after logging in the My Documents folder on the Desktop had the Offline Folders symbol on it. If I turn off Offline Folders with a GPO will Folder Redirection still work? Thanks

Restoring Servers - to dissimilar hardware
by Guest Mrpush- 2 replies
Hi, I really have become bored of rebuilding servers from scratch. By rebuild, I mean formatting & partitioning drives, installing MS 2003 OS (and Oh those patches!), things like server roles, Programs, etc. and all the setting that go with them. In thinking about solutions, I came to the conclusion that I'm not fully sure that a restore can be performed to dissimilar hardware. I'd like to be able to take disk images and just drop them into either like or new server hardware without having to rebuild anything. (I need to spend my time elsewhere) Hence I would have a picture of the server (less user files that may be backed up by other means…

I have over 900 print queues and I need to disable the bidirectional support for all of them. Since I do not want to do this one at a time. :( I'm trying to find a shortcut. I thought I would find where it's kept in the registry, export the data, modify the values and import. :) Problem: I can't find where this is kept. i've looked all over the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print and done multiple searches in the registry with no luck. Help!! thanks...

Hi, All my server OS are 32-bit. I am going to upgrade my exchange server to exchange server 2007 which requires a 64-bit OS. Are there any special requirements that I need to be aware of before upgrading to windows 2003 64-bit in an environment where everything else (all other servers... domain controllers, active directory, sql databases, proxy servers, etc) is running Windows 32-bit OS? Thanks, CC
