Windows 200 Server & Logman.exe?
by Guest John Schneider- 0 replies

I have a batch file to start a specific set of performance counters that I'm using on some client's Windows 2003 Server systems. Just tried deploying this to a Windows 2000 Server enironment, and it can't find Logman.exe. Searching around, I found an article that says "Logman is a superset of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit's Tracelog facilities", but I can't find it there either. Is this correct? Does Win2k even have logman?

Robocopy error, logs nothing
by Guest WB- 2 replies

I'm having an intermittent issue with Robocopy where it occasionally does absolutely nothing (at least according to my log files). I've seen this occur when there is a bad parameter (am I wrong, or isn't the main purpose of logging to log errors???). However I can run the exact same commands at a later time and they work fine. How can I find out if I have the latest version of Robocopy (one that supports XP), and where can I obtain it? The copy I have came from the Windows 2003 Resource Kit, which seems very old. Thanks, -- Bill Baker

Event IDs 7031 and 7034
by Guest maitakeboy- 0 replies

I have Exchange 2003 sp2 running on a Windows 2003 Server Standard SP2, both brand new installs. In the Apllication Event Viewer, I keep seeing an Inetinfo.exe error. In the System Event Viewer I see coinciding with this a sequence of events: Event ID 7031 - IIS Admin Terminates Event ID 7034 - SMTP terminates Event ID 7034 - Exchange Routing Engine Terminates Event ID 7034 - Exchange POP3 terminates. As they are all set to restart it is not noticeable to users, but hasme concerned. Looking it up, I saw a ference to an old KB article, 885881, which seems to address the issue, but it seemed out of date and I would figure that W2K3 sp2 would already have…

I am trying to get to grips with installing additional languages to a Terminal Server. I gather that the MUI software is not available retail. Does this mean it cannot be done on a retail version of TS 2003? Any pointers gratefully received! Geoff

After several years of use, the mouse on my Dell laptop suddenly became mobile on its own. It is all over the screen, does not respond to the mouse or finger pad, and is very jumpy. I am using windows XP, have tried to uninstall and re install it, but nothing happens. I also searched for an updated driver but am not sure of where to look for that. Any suggestions?

Storage question for Windows Server 2003 Server
by Guest Alan- 3 replies
Hi, I am planning to get a server with 2TB or 4TB array in RAID 5 from an OEM. I have both motherboard and CPU that supports 64bit OS. I originally plan to install 32bit Windows 2003 R2 standard on this server, but I was told that for that much of storage I should install 64bit of Windows 2003 server instead. Is there a limitation or performance issue with 32bit Windows 2003 with this amount of storage? This server is simply for storage only and for local lan access. I haven't used any 64bit software. Another question is if I do go with 64bit, any software that I install has to been compatible with a 64bit OS, right? -- Thanks, Alan

WINS: How to remove IP addresses from a [1Ch] Domain Controller re
by Guest schottky- 4 replies
OS: Windows Server 2003 SP2 Hub and spoke replication topology: 11 WINS servers installed on domain controllers. 16 domain controllers pointing to those WINS servers. For the 11 DCs with the WINS service installed, only the Primary WINS Server setting is set with their own IP address. The 1C record for my domain has 25 IP addresses with old IP addresses and old domain controllers that do not exist anymore. I try to figure out how to remove some IP addresses from this 1C record.

Hi, I have a user working from home due to an illness, His printer (hp deskjet 3320) prints out blank pages over the terminal services connection. It prints fine when he opens a document locally, it's just TS that is the problem. Here's the wierd thing: It prints the correct number of pages and it goes through the motions of printing, but it just prints blanks.. Everyone else's remote printing is good. Just this one guy.

NTFS on a common shared storage (SAN)
by Guest dcastelino- 2 replies

We have NTFS volume on a common shared storage (SAN) Facts: Windows Server 2003 finds this LUN or Volume thru Microsoft iSCSI software initiator without any problems meaning I can copy data on this volume. Issue: The second Windows Server 2003 does not find this volume or LUN on SAN unless I go to Disk Management and format this volume resulting in destroying the data I copied from the first Windows 2003 box. Is there any way where we can make the second windows 2003 box to see the common storage without formatting this volume. Kindly advise Thanks in anticipation

Issue - This security ID may not be assigned as the owner object
by Guest Adam Raff- 2 replies

Good Afternoon, this is a little hard to explain but I will do my best. We have a directory that is setup by year (2006, 2007, 2008) and to make it simple I created a batch file that invokes xcopy to copy a directory called template into the 2008 directory. The user then goes into the 2008 directory and renames it. This has worked for some time but now I need to add some files to the template and I noticed something. The user who does this is named Jane. If the directories is not created on her system and even the template is not created on her system the batch file stops and I get the following error in DOS (command prompt) when I watch it execu…

Network recycle bin? Windows 2003 Server Std.
by Guest Calab- 10 replies
Is it possible to create a network recycle bin on a Windows 2003 server, either natively or with third party software? I have 1.5TB of data on a RAID5 array. If I delete a file on the server from one of my workstations I would like to be able to recover it the same way I could recover a file deleted locally. I don't need the ability to track file changes/versions. I don't want to waste drive space by backing up tonnes of files.

Hi, We are using Windows Server 2003. When copy files from one directory to another directory, the files keep the security settings from the "Origin Folder" no the "Destination Folder" This is creating a problem. We have to login as the Administrator and update the File Permissions. Why is this happening? is there a way fix it? Regards, Bre-x

High Page Fault - System process
by Guest Kent- 0 replies
Hi, I'm not sure whether high page fault for a system process will cause any unexpected reboot. It's a Win2k3 server with SP1; 2.5GB RAM. Server uptime is just 2 days. Image Name - System Page Faults - 5,910,717 Based on aboave statistics, it's very high. I've enable perfmon to check page fault/second, sometimes it spike to > 2000 per second. Any comment on this? Memory usage is pretty normal.

DHCP Redundant Configuration Question
by Guest MPG- 5 replies
Hello folks, We've got a domain that has about 120 DHCP clients. We've got two Win2K DCs. Until recently, all of our DHCP was handled by the second domain controller. I modified the setup to provide some DHCP redundancy and have some questions. Here is the current setup: DC1 Scope: 10.1.5.60 - 10.1.5.254 Exclusions: 10.1.5.157 - 10.1.5.254 DC2 Scope: 10.1.5.60 - 10.1.5.254 Exclusions: 10.1.5.60 - 10.1.5.156 The overlapping scopes and mutually exclusive exclusion lists were set up based on a recommendation in TechNet DHCP best practices. This basically leaves half of range on each DHCP server. With the current setup, each DHCP server has 97 a…

Automated System Recovery and USB Drive
by Guest Chowsman- 1 reply

I reviewed several different documents concerning the ASR feature. So once you implemented ASR you should have a floppy disk and a "bkf" file (on the local disk). My question is this? Can I copy the "bkf" to a USB drive for safe keeping? Let's say I have a server with one hard drive and the drive craps out, well the "bkf" file would be gone for good. Any suggestions from anyone? Thanks, Dennis

But Readers/Contributors are rejected. Why is this?

Manage other servers from Web Server 2008
by Guest Wojciech Kowasz- 3 replies

Hello all, Recently we've added a brand new Windows Web Server 2008 to our network. We have a few other server running Windows Server 2003 and therefore I'd like to ask: is there any way to remotely manage these servers from Web 2008? We use Remote Desktop for administration, I want to be able to e.g. do some changes in Active Directory from Web 2008, but there is no dsa.msc snap-in. The only solution for now is to log on directly to the DC or other server with Adminpak installed. In other words, can I install some kind of Remote Server Administration Tools, but for 2008, not for Vista? Thank you in advance. Best regards, Wojciech Kowasz

Mobile device that capable of managing servers
by Guest C C- 4 replies

Hello. Sorry if this is not the right newsgroup but I'm looking for a mobile device that is capable of basic server management. I have a Palm One PDA which I no longer use because the touch screen calibration is way off. I have had replaced by Palm One four times within the past 11 months. Now that my extended warranty is done, I will not buy a Palm One device anymore. With this, when it was still useable, I can connect it to the Internet via Bluetooth to my wireless phone and VPN over to our LAN at work and then use a VNC client for the Palm to control my desktop at work and manage servers in our domain. So I'm looking to replace my phone/PDA with a si…
