Hi, Everyone, There is a weird thing happened to all the domain controller computers (all Windows server 2003 std) in our company. I have not noticed when exactly this started. It seems that the Automatic Updates options at our domain controllers are grey out. I used to check "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" because i don't feel comfortable if i just let the updates automatically install to the domain controllers. But recently i noticed the all domain controllers just do the automatic updates and I am not able to change this settings because all the options at Automatic Updates (from Control Panel) are grey out. I checked…

Hello. We have win 2000 standrad with 2 scsi(36gb 10k) discs and it is the primary domain controller in our domain(we have also win 2003 r2 as second dc). The first one-system with 2 partitions c:-system e:-user shares is failing. It is reporting some errors in dell open manage and when it is rebooted i have blue screen(this can be only resolved with recovery consloe -chkdsk /f). Also scsi utilities reports bad sectors. We have ordered new scsi disc which is 146gb 15k. We want to replace failing disc with new one and reitain dc role. I was thinking using acronis trueimage echo server. Independent FTP Hosting for Projects

Hi all Can anyone recommend an FTP hosting site/service for project documentation? Our exchange server is getting swamped by the need to communicate large drawing files, so I need a straight forward procedure for uploading drawings to a third party server space. Ideally I am looking for something which can be configured to give a corporate "feel" rather than some toy-town setup with fixed advertising banners etc. Also need to be able to password protect folders to restrict access for each client IYSWIM. Any recommendations please? TIA Phil

Cannot login: Server 2003
by Guest Warren Post- 4 replies

I have just installed Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 SP2. Upon joining it to the local domain, I received the greeting message and was prompted to reboot. I did so. Upon reboot and logging in, the machine immediately displayed a BSOD. I rebooted again. Now I cannot login: the computer simply returns me to the login screen. This happens using either of the machine´s two users, trying to log in to either the domain or the local computer, and either normal or safe mode. In order to join the computer to the domain, I had to previously change the local security policy per this page: http://www.chicagotech.net/systemerrors.htm#System%20Error%201240%20-%20The%20account%…

We are running Windows Server 2003 on an HP Proliant ML350 G4. We are using a Quantum DLT8000 tape backup device. The problem we are having is that the backup never completes successfully. We are trying to back up around 52GB of data split across three hard disks. The Hardware Compression is switched on on the tape drive and our backup command has the /hc:on switch. The tape is a 40/80 GB tape. Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2003. I have also added the /UP switch to the backup command. The following entry is dropped in the Application Log: Event Type: Error Event Source: NTBackup Event Category: None Event ID: 8001 Date: 04/07/2008 Time: …

Everybody in the office has a drive mapping of \\server\share On this share is a sub-directory of s:\photos People need to have full rights to s:\ and they need full rights to all of the sub-folders from s:\photos but within s:\photos I want to prevent them from being able to create sub-folders or writing/editing any files in that directory? How do I set the permissions to skip this one specific folder in the tree and still allow all of the permissions from s:\ to be inherited by s:\photos\whatever?

Excluding folders from My Document Redirection
by Guest ifanatic- 2 replies

Hello, I have implemented a Test environment as our company is soon going to implement a policy for EXCLUDING My Music from folder redirection. (As users have a lot of music crap, we think it should remain locally on the machine and should not be stored on the server.) My Test Environment: 1 Windows 2003 BOX, Windows XP machine. Locally networked. Folder Redirection: Works fine. All the My Documents is redirected to \\TESTSERVER\UserData\Username\User Documents Roaming Profile: Roaming Profile is also implemented and user profiles are stored here: \\TESTSERVER\Profiles\Username On the internet I found dozens of articles talking about creating a AD…

How to allow non-admin to run scheduled tasks remotely?
by Guest pimy103@gmail.com- 1 reply

Server OS: Server 2003 R2 Client OS: XP Pro SP2 I am trying to allow a non-admin user to run a scheduled task on a remote server. According to the Help text, the user must be a member of the local Administrators group, the local Backup Operators group, the domain Server Operators group, or “have been delegated the appropriate authority, on the local computer”. I would prefer not to add the user to one of the three groups I mentioned. I have given the user Read+Execute on the target task. I also gave the user Read (and even Full Control) to the C:\windows\tasks folder on the server using CACLS, still no dice. When the user brings up the server via UNC, they do…

GPO Vista Issue
by Guest Steve Spicer- 1 reply

Hi, Apologies in advance from a "newbie" here if this is the wrong forum- seems the most appropriate on Google Newgroups. I manage our school network- nothing too exciting- 3 servers running Server 2003, mandatory profiles for the pupils and GPO objects to lock down the desktop managed through Active Directory. I am experimenting with Vista on our client machines at present and have some very weird issues. I've set up new GPO objects and the repository as explained in the Vista help guides for GPO, and edited them with the MMC plug in on a Vista machine. I have set up the Vista machine, joined it to the network, and then logged in as a pupil. The first ti…

Server 2003 Certificate Services
by Guest Adam Scott- 0 replies

Good Morning, I'm fairly worried about using Certificate Services in Server 2003 as previous attempts have caused problems with service packs and updates. It always seems to give a 'Integrety of Update.inf could not be verified...' I'm looking to install OCS 2003/2005 and am aware that this uses certificates. 1. Can you install an OCS instance without using certificates 2. If not, how can I avoid the issue above and proceed with installation of OCS Adam
