Restoring System State to Alternate File System
by Guest Will- 10 replies

Is it possible to restore a system state backup to an alternate file path on a different computer, WITHOUT changing the system state of the computer you are restoring from? I have a computer that crashed, and I want to use the system state backup files to help attempt a recovery on that computer. Ideally I would like to restore the system state on a file system then copy files over. -- Will

Password Policy
by Guest bondo- 1 reply

We need to deploy a password policy for all users. We set up a dummy account that is required to change thier password on next logon, and every 45 days. We then set them up on the accounting/ billing server that is only a member server so they can access the applications. We tested the account for logging into the domain first and if they could access the desired apps. Not a problem. Then made the neccessary test changes. Now the dummy user can log into the domain, but not the application server. Password/user unknown error. All servers are 2003 Standard/R2, and all workstations are XP Pro. TIA and any further info I will provide Hope this is …

I have 2 networks that I am combining into one. Currently we have 2 DHCP servers - one for each network. What is the best way to configure 1 DHCP server for using multiple scopes? We've been using 192.168.1.x - 192.168.1.100 ranges and I'd like to stay with that for the main scope. Thanks for any help that you may offer. Tom

Migrating from one 2003 box to another
by Guest SoxFanInVA- 3 replies

I have a 2003 box that is giving me fits so imaged the drive with StorageCraft's ShadowProtectIT however I am getting an error on restoring that I can't get a solution to. So, I was going to install the OS on the new box and then migrate user data and server settings over. We just use this box for remote desktop access and nothing else. No Exchange, no AD, no file shares, just remote access so I wouldn't think it would be a difficult migration. How would I get all the user data and server settings migrated to the new box? Any tips or or articles would be helpful. Thanks, Tom

R2 File Server Resource Manager Reporting
by Guest Thorn- 1 reply

I have just setup FSRM on an existing clustered file server (2003 SP2/ R2 Enterprise 2 node cluster). I am trying to run a File Screen Audit report, but I am not getting the results I was expecting. I am only getting files in my reports that have been created since the file screening was setup. None of the hundreds of mp3's are showing up that were housed on this server before installing FSRM. But if I copy a new one out, it shows on the report. So I have a blank report, except for the new mp3 i put out there. Is this by design? Shouldnt I see all of the extensions I am looking for regardless of history? Thanks Thorn

Can a Server 2003 (5 users license, 4 users) Domain conroller be rolled back into a plain file and print server - this is a very small network and it seems that it is overkill for access to a few documents. also, why would a single workstation (xp pro) be able to login in to the server but "read only" rights. the other 3 stations (xp pro) login fine. TIA Rick

Setting up to test apps using TS
by Guest Markus- 4 replies

I’d like to set up Terminal Services (TS) in order to run my Access app, and MS Word/Excel. I would like to test this out first, and become familiar with it, before I actually install Server 2003 or 2005. Would appreciate it if someone could get me started by answering a few basic questions. I understand MS provides virtual server 2003 or 2005 to conduct such testing in those environments without the need to purchase server 2003/2005 for testing. Is that correct? Next, I am unclear on just how virtual servers work. If I were installing an actual version of Server2003, for example, I would partition the hd. As I understand it, with a virtual server…
