Chsdks Error
by Guest Pere- 0 replies

Greetings I have a volume that is part of on a cluster that is stored on a SAN. I was experiencing some file system oddities, so I decided to run a chkdsk /f on the volume (I have done so a few times before with no problems) I took down the other cluster machine, then ran the command chkdsk e: /f The first time through (on stage 1 of 3) it fixed a bunch of things (including all my oddities). However, it errors out every time on stage two with the following output: CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... 876928 file records processed. File verification completed. 322 large file records processed. 0 bad file records processed. 0 EA …

Hello, I have a windows 2003 ENT x64 Server that has sharepoint 2007 installed on it. The issue that I am having is page.sys will not remove it's self after being moved to the D:\ drive. The registy entry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\ Memory Management says its on the D:\ drive. Under performance options its set to no page on the c:\ drive. I have tried to manually delete the file but its states its being used. I have looked on the D:\ drive and I have another pagefile.sys. I have tried rebooting the server but it still will not remove. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

VLAN Domain Controller Communications Issues
by Guest JT- 0 replies
I have 4 DCs, 2 on each VLAN. My default VLAN, VLAN 0, can communiicate with VLAN 1. VLAN 0 has higher security, so clients on VLAN 0 may initiate communication with VLAN 1, but VLAN1 clients cannot initate communication to VLAN 0. I have opened firewall ports that allow the DCs on both VLANS to communicate freely. The issue is, in the PIX log I see that DCs on VLAN 1 try to initiate communication with clients on Vlan 0. Of course this fails. Why do the DCs on VLAN 1 desire to communicate with clients on VLAN 0? I have the DNS for VLAN 0 clients pointed to the DCs on VLAN 0. It is a mystery to me why DCs on VLAN 1 desire to communicate with clie…

Localsystem missing in 2003
by Guest tshad- 0 replies

I am running Windows 2003 R2 and seem to be missing my "Documents and Settings\LocalService" folder. I have a program that is running as a service that works fine on my XP machine but won't work on the 2003 because I need to access my PGP keys which are found in the LocalService\Application Data\PGP folder. But I can't see a LocalService folder to put the data there. Is there a reason why it is not there or that I can't see it? I do see: Adminstrator All Users Default User MyLogon SQLService Thanks, Tom

Hi Guy, I have a windows 2003 R2 32bits with win xppro clients and roaming profiles configured. it's work very well. Today i change a win xp desktop to a win vista business notebook. When i'm connect with the vista to the domain with the user, i have an error log, he can't use the roaming profiles. I think there is not the same structure betwen a win xp and win vista. So there a simple solution to resolve this problem , or i delete the roaming profiles in win xp, after i'm log with the win vista, and after i enable the roaming profiles ?? I don't know if the profiles was compatible with this 2 OS. Thanks.. -- best regard

Let's save XP!!!
by Guest Spin- 4 replies

Although this a server newsgroup, you all probably either use Windows XP or Vista as your administration workstation. Therefore I am posting this message here. Microsoft plans to end most sales of Windows XP on June 30, despite a deep reluctance by many business and individuals about moving to Vista. I personally believe Vista has too heavy of a memory and disk space footprint, less snappy performance, and it fails to allow one to go back to the classic look and feel of XP. For instance, what happened to the old fashioned vanilla folders in Explorer? And the lack of an "UP" button in Vista's Explorer as well. (Now why did the have to take that away?)…

Time issues
by Guest UselessUser- 1 reply

Hi all, Currently running a 2003 domain with XP clients. I was under the impression that being in a domain made the PDC the time source, which all XP clients sync with using the W32TM service. However I have noticed that some PC's seem to be losing the time? I am trying to understand how this is not being corrected. I understand that PC's uses the CMOS for a clock, (We have simply been changing this battery and setting the time - which does fix the problem).. but why does it come to this... I have found this registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\Config Which seems to contain various settings, but it stil is no…

Mount NFS-share on Windows Server 2003 x64
by Guest jens.wannenmacher@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hello, we have to mount some NFS-shares on a Windows Server 2003 x64 (not R2). As far as I could see the Services for Unix are not available for that version. I could not evaluate nfsAxe and proNfs as the beta clients that come with their installers won't run since the evalution time is over. What possibilities do I have to mount a NFS-share on that Windows- version. I can't update the OS. Thanks! Jens

Windows 2008 Hardware Requirements
by Guest Andy Smith- 4 replies

Hello, We are in the process of planning our upgrade to Windows 2008 (luckily it will be on new servers in a new domain). What are the implications of installing Windows Server 2008 as a domain controller running AD, DHCP, DNS and Group Policy on a SATA/150 on-board controller, RAID-1. I know it may sound like an obvious answer, but I need to justify the added cost of jumpiing up to a hardware SAS setup, so it would be good if I could get answers like: "Do not even consider using SATA/150 because..." Thanks/...

Para-virt and 2008 server
by Guest Freaky- 0 replies
Hi there, does Windows 2008 server have a layer that is virtualization aware? So it can run in para-virtualized mode? Appearantly this would achieve better performance and would also lower CPU usage during idle, clock skew, etc. If it does, is it also compatible with vmware's vmi / linux paravirt-ops / xen (if it's fully compliant now with the former 2, haven't checked)? Remember reading about 2008 having para-virtualized support about 9 months ago, but perhaps it was just speculation, can't seem to find anything on it. Kind regards

Repair RAID5
by Guest Andrew- 0 replies
I have a Server 2003 which had 4 HDDs, 3 of which were in a software RAID5 (no RAID card) and 1 was unallocated spare. The first drive (disk 0) from the RAID 5 failed and had to be disconnected from the system. After disconnecting disk 0 and powering up the server, I would have expected to see (in Comp. Man.) that disk 0 was foreign (and missing), disk 1 & 2 were failed and disk 3 unallocated? Instead I have disk 0 foreign and missing, disk 1 failed and disk 2 unallocated. With a mystery missing disk! Does anyone have any hints on how to repair this? My first thought was to take the spare disk and connected it to the disk 0 position and see what …

KB948496 patch has been installed. After uninstalling the patch everything was fine again. This patch probably at least for some x64 machines is not recommended. In my case this is a HP385 G2, AMD64

Folder Permissions Changed After Moving to a New Location
by Guest Jason- 2 replies
In the process of purging our file system, my boss recently took an ex-employee's folder and moved it into a subfolder of her protected folder. The folder was initially setup to inherit permissions from the top level of the shared drive and was open to everyone. The folder it was dragged into was created under a folder that is restricted to my boss and the administrator. Somehow, after it was dragged over, we were completely locked out of it. I remedied the problem by taking ownership and adding the correct permissions, but am wondering if anyone knows why this happened and how we can avoid it in the future?

I also have (on another disk ) over 130GB of unallocated drive space. How can I rezise these partitions? TIA!

NT Backup VSS Error
by Guest Michael- 0 replies

Hello, I have two backup scripts that I run throughout the week, one is a nightly and the other a weekly master. The weekly master had been running fine for months and months, but recently has been returning this error: Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:0x80042306 The odd part is, the nightly script that runs on thr week days runs fine and does the same type of task as the weekly script but just backs up different drives and data. The script files are in .js format. I figure if there was a problem with VSS, then the nightly would not run correctly either. Any suggestions as to what I can try to correct this issue? -- Thank you!
