I currently manage a school that is growing and will run out of internal IP addresses. We currently use 192.168.1.x and 255.255.255.0 for the network. What would be the easiest way to allow for more available IP addresses on the LAN?

by Guest zaz- 2 replies

I have been using Sysmantec Ver12 for backing up and it keeps failing on System State backup. I ran a NTbackup as administrator on this ONLY DC in domain to get the basics done and get the following error: Backup started on 27-06-2008 at 10:55. Could not access portions of directory System State\SYSVOL. You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be missing or damaged. Please contact the owner or administrator. This domain was split away from another company and this DC was given all the FSMO roles. Everything seems to be working fine but cannot find out how to detemine want this error is and how to fix?

User security
by Guest Old John- 1 reply

I have one user account which was on Domain Admin group. Now, I have removed it from this group and I have to apply user rights on OU (OU - security - advanced - add - user account - apply user objects). Everything works OK for all users under this OU, but not only for user specified at the begining (which was Domain Admin). The only thing as I can see is disabled option "Allow inheritable permission...." When I specify these settings on this user, settings are gone away for a couple minutes...?! Please help.

Network Browsing Problem
by Guest Tom- 3 replies

Hello, We just installed a new Windows 2003 Server domain controller on our network. I demoted our old server and everything seemed to be working ok until I tried to browse the network from an XP Pro client. It is extremely slow and when it does open our domain it doesn't show the server. On Vista Business machines I can browse without any problems. Also, sometimes the XP Pro machines won't log in and give a "domain is not available" message. If I log in locally and unc map to the server it will allow me to login, but if I restart I still cannot login tot he domain. I've even unjoined and rejoined the domain and it still gives that error. Any sugge…

network printers via 2 different DNS names
by Guest Rich- 1 reply

I have a file and print server that I am migrating to a new domain and also renaming. I setup a DNS record and performed the steps in the following article to get the server's file shares to work under both the current DNS name and what will be the new DNS name. 281308 - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281308. But it seems that my users' PC's can only add printers under the current server name \\servername.olddomain.com\printerName and not \\newname.newdomain.com\printerName. is there any way to allow them to add printers under the new name so i can get them all set under the new name before i change the server's name, to av…
