Server 2008 Remote Desktop becomes disconneted
by Guest Larry- 1 reply

I have a new Server 2008. I am using Remote Desktop to setup and configure this new server. But, about every 2 hours the Remote Desktop disconnects. Then I can not connect again to the server without actually walking to the physicial server, logging in and then logout. Then I can login again using the Remote Desktop (at least for a couple more hours). How do I keep this server alive? Also, each morning I have to physically login to the server at the server, then I can use Remote Desktop. Also, I have the same problem using Terminal Services on the Server. It will work for a few hours and then not allow any to connect.

install Replica DC without DNS server
by Guest Euro- 4 replies

Hi friends, I need to install a new server as Replica DC but on our LAN we use a Linksys Router as DNS, I mean, we don't have a DNS server under windows platform, when I execute dcpromo and select to install the new server in an existing domain it show me an error telling: Cannot consult DNS to find DC (something related to _SRV) my question... Can I install a replica DC without a DNS server? If not, Can I install DNS server first on my new server, then execute dcpromo to convert it as replica DC (with DNS server already running) ?? HB

decommission a Windows 2008 enterprise certificate server
by Guest Tim Shoemaker- 1 reply
Does anyone know how to decommission a Windows 2008 enterprise certificate server? We installed our Root CA with SHA256, but our Windows 2003 and XP machines cannot read the certificates, so we need to reinstall it with SHA1, and before we do, we will need to decommission the new 2008 certificate servers and start over. Thanks, Tim J. Shoemaker Network Administrator Association of Washington Cities.

Forest/Enterprise level admin vs. OU admin; migration, loss ofprivilege
by Guest kcsteele- 2 replies
Hi, I am currently tasked with documenting what would be lost if our current AD environment (single forest, single domain) were to be consolidated into a new forest as an OU with a different agency controlling that forest. I have started with some basic preliminary stuff, can anyone add to this? - loss of DCs - value of current investment in servers is minimized - forced to abide by password and kerberos policies implemented by administrators of the parent domain, as well as enforced group policies - loss of control - slower convergence w.r.t. required changes to the infrastructure - right now, if changes are needed at the domain/enterprise level…

Some machines detect an update as needed when others don't??
by Guest KCSteele- 0 replies

We have a couple groups of machines, the first group are machines that we own and the second group are leased. Both groups are running Office 2003 SP2. The second group are all created from a newer image, and the first group are all created from an older image. Both images had Office 2003 installed into them from a network share. When office updates are deployed they are done via SMS. For some reason, there are a couple Office updates for Outlook that only the first group detects as needed, while the second group does not. This was the case with MS07-003 and its replacement, MS08-015 (both Outlook remote code patches). Any idea why only the first group is dete…

Problems with website access with a domain ending with .com
by Guest Ryan Laurie- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 Server that was setup before I got involved, at one point they were hosting their own website. The issue that I have now is that the domain is setup with a .com after the domain name instead of the .local, so when I try to access the website, which is now being hosted by godaddy, I can't get to it in the office. The site is setup on a web hosting server that has a dynamic address, but for now I paid for a static ip for 2 months because of other circumstances. The only way I have gotten it to work is that I had to make an A record in the servers DNS pointing http://www.mydomain.com to the static address. My issue is after the stati…

Dear all, does anyone knows about the following error message reported in system log: The driver for device \Device\Scsi\adpu3201 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condition. Server is connected with SCSI controller Adaptec 29320A to storage system. Drivers and BIOS are uptodate! It looks that there is no impact on user sessions and files, but it is disturbing us! Thank you Thoby
