Clients lose WServer 2003 connection every afternoon
by Guest Resource10- 0 replies

Our network seems to be running fine, except that any clients still attached to the server (Windows 2003 SBS on a dual Xeon platform) around 6:00 PM locally lose access to the server. This means they cannot save their work or contact our time card system. The network was set up in late March and we have had no trouble. This has started recently, probably within the last three weeks. There have been no changes made to the network, policies, rights or such since early April. Any and all help would be appreciated.

mail server problems
by Guest incredible_sulk- 2 replies

Apologies in advance for being something of a novice! I'm attempting to install the communigate pro mail server on my windows 2003 server vps.. It all went smoothly apart from the webmail service. For some reason, even though the http user port (8100) is open listening, I can't get any external connections through. I can connect to the webmail service fine locally. Likewise, all other http services of the mail server, admin etc. work fine locally, but not from the internet. But I can connect to the mail server fine through pop3 methods etc. over the internet and it's relaying mail fine through smtp. I've tried disabling the firewall and IPSec to no avail..…

Windows 2008 Server - cannot copy files from server to another machine; reverse works ok

Windows 2008 Server - cannot copy files from server to another machine; reverse works ok Hi! My Windows 2008 Server started acting up on me all of a sudden. Every time I try to copy a larger file from it to a network share on another machine, it freezes, reporting that the local file I am trying to copy cannot be found ("Item Not Found" error dialog", or that there is a network error accessing the local (!)file. Sometimes the copy works a bit at the beginning, then the speed crumbles to < 10KB/sec, and the errors pop up. All machines are in a Windows 2003 AD, the 2008 box is a workstation, not a dc server. I managed to disable all advanced tcp fe…

Block IP addresses: Windows 2003 server
by Guest MarkusJ_NZ- 3 replies

Hi, I have around 120 IP Addresses I want to block from my Webserver (Windows 2003 server). I assumed that I could just do it nice and easily much like APF firewall in Linux by pasting the ip addresses into a text file.... After spending the last few hours looking all over the Internet I cannot for the life of me find a nice easy way program to basically say.. "If the request is from this ip address deny it" I looked at using ZoneAlarm but people said it was not compatible with Windows 2003 Server. Any recommendations about how I can this more then welcome. Thanks Markus

Event ID 13568 JRNL_WRAP_ERROR
by Guest Jim Combs- 4 replies

I just got an Event ID 13568 error. Apparently, this a journal wrap error and I have read all the details in the event log instructing me to change the enable journal wrap automatic restore value then start and stop ntfrs. This is the only DC I have in my domain and have read the possible causes for this problem. None seem to apply and I can find no other error messages or flags in any of my event logs. I also searched the KB and Technet, but the articles I have found also reference possible causes that again do not seem applicable. I just want to know if I should do as instructed? If I force this recovery am I doing an authoritative or non-authorativ…

Diskmanagement does not show drive letter
by Guest Hans Minten- 0 replies

Hi, Got a problemem with mounting drives on an windows 2003 Enterprise server SP2. After mounting a disk from a san the windows server does not show a drive letter to the mounted disk. Windows explorer does show a drive letter, windows command does show a drive letter but under windows disk management there is no drive letter assigned to the disk. If you want to add a drive letter to the disk it gives a error, but in you got to the explorer of command prompt you can browse to the folder and files. After a server reset a drive letter is assigned and is working fine. The reason why restating is not an option is that the mounted disk must be availab…

Will we see an SP3 for Server 2003?
by Guest Maurice- 3 replies

I have had a look around the Internet but so far cannot see any mention of the likelihood of a Service Pack 3 for Server 2003. SP3 for XP finally arrived so I thought it would appear for Server 2003 soon afterwards. Anyone heard anything?

After a DC in Windows 2003 domain started, a popup window shows up: "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. ..." I checked Apps Event log and found the error "The Kerberos Key Distribution Center service hung on starting". However, all the automated-start services have started including this one. Why this window popup? Is it possible there is some manual-start service not start? If it is not, how to stop this window poping-up? Thanks.

Bare Metal Domain Controller Migration
by Guest Craig Lewis- 1 reply

Hello, We have a domain controller running on a dell 2850 server which we want to migrate to a new piece of hardware. This machine is a domain controller, smtp server and DNS server. For a host of reasons we need the new hardware to run a domain controller with the same name and same IP address as the currently running domain cotroller. We have started to investigate products from Symantec, PlateSpin and Altiris. One of the reasons we feel like we need to look at such products is that we don't feel like the server can be down for an extended period of time. To do this manually would require demoting from the domain, changing the name, IP, etc. Then Brin…

I have a user whose account was locked because of preauthentication failure and his failure code was 0x18 which is normally a bad password. What does bad password mean? Does it mean wrong password. Moreover my user's account was locked when he was already log on to his machine. His pc did not save any other user password under user management. Pls advise why his account was locked, thks in advance.

"replacing invalid security ID" message leads to an hours-long scan on startup, how to fix?
by Guest Ken Fine- 1 reply

"replacing invalid security ID" message leads to an hours-long scan on startup, how to fix? I have a 2003 Windows Server server that on startup starts an hours-long scan of the filesystem saying: "replacing invalid security id with default security id..." I think this might have resulted from an automatic RAID rebuild of the disk, though I am not certain. The files behave normally once I abort the scan. I am wondering how I can fix this while the server has Windows loaded up. I don't want the server offline for hours and hours. The server is local to me and I have full administrator rights on and total control over the system. Ideas? Thank you, -…
