Memory issue
by Guest Frank- 11 replies

We have a Windows Server 2003 that has 4 Gb of memory installed. Windows recognizes the memory if I loop at the properties of the server. However the taskmanager shows only 200 MB free memory and all running programs use 200-300MB of memory. However virtual memory use is rather high. This is a SQL server and SQL server uses 77 MB of physical memory and 1.7 GB of virtual memory. Boot.ini looks like this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Standard" /noexecute=optout /fastdetect /PAE /3GB Only change in the last half yea…

Multiple Connections for Mapped Drives
by Guest cvogel- 1 reply

I have situation at a site where we have login scripts mapping a "home" folder for users that create a "W:" . This mapping seems to lock access back to the server when I try to access the server with the administrator account while still being logged on as the user on the local machine. As soon as I disconnect the "w:" I can then authenticate to the server as administrator. Steps I have taken: 1.) reset permissions on the users shared home folder. 2.) deleted local profile 3.) checked "open shares" on server to make sure the account does not already have a file or directory open or locked. There are 7 or 8 other mapped drives in the users profil…

Hello, We are moving from Novell (NDPS) print servers and LPR printers to Windows print servers. Since I haven't configured such an environment before, I have begun researching my options and thought I would post here as well. I'm familiar with how to configure a print server I but I want to make sure it's appropriate for our larger environment. AD running on Win2k but will soon be 2003 R2 or 2008. 1,300 users 1,100 xp machines 20 or so HP LaserJets on the network Roughly 65 Xerox network multi-function printers that are managed by Xerox Managed Services. don't see task scheduler running in server 2003
by Guest biff- 1 reply

I noticed that my scheduled Symantec Antivirus CE scans were not running when they were supposed to these last 5 days I read this may be a problem with the task scheduler not running I open services.msc and see the task scheduler has status of started but when I look in the task manager, I do not see svchost.exe in the processes tab. Shouldn't this be running? If I go to services.msc and restart the task scheduler, I still do not see svchost.exe running in the processes tab of the task manager. I am using windows server 2003 service pack 2.

by Guest Jake- 1 reply

Hi, When regular w2003 domain clients want to erase one or all print jobs on their local printer they get an 'Access is denied' message. How can they erase local print jobs without logging in as local admins...? Also they have experienced problems when trying to delete large print jobs sent to a network printer. Do they have to be members of the print administrators group in one or both cases above...? jake

Map a range a port to a computer in server 2003
by Guest Marcus- 1 reply

I've set up a home server, which acts as a router by using the Routing and Remote Access tool in Windows Server 2003. It works fine, but yesterday my brother told me that he wanted to host an AOC game, so I need to map a bunch of ports (like TCP Ports 28800-29000) to his computer. In Routing and Remote Access tool, I can just map these port one by one. But there are 200 ports in this case! So what can I do to map these ports efficiently. Thank you very much.

Server Hangs

Greetings, My Win2K3 SP1 domain controller locks up every day and I have not been able to find a reason for the lock-up. The Event Viewer shows no errors and no STOP errors are generated. The controller simply does not respond to keyboard, mouse, or network communication, requiring a reset to bring it back up. When it does reboot, there is no indication that anything went wrong. This started occurring shortly after I implemented a software mirror on my C:\ drive (boot drive). In fact, after rebooting, the mirror always resynchs. Could it be that there is an issue with the software mirror? Short of breaking the mirror, are there any diagnostics tha…

Disk latency generate High CPU

Hi, I suspect Windows Server to indicate in Task Manager High CPU Utilization when in fact there are Disk I/O Latency and not heavy CPU usage. I would like to have feedback from other professional about this. I'm currently working with hundred of Windows Server that are virtualized using VMware, and we get often complain about Windows Server VM that have High CPU Usage that we can't explain while we suspect the storage to be responding slowly. Thanks, -- Bernard Neerinck MS MCSE HP MASE VMware Certified

I have a folder that a number of users have access to. The folder contains Excel files. I want the users to be able to open and make changes and then save the Excel file. I do not want users to be able to delete the files nor do I want the users to create files or folders within this folder. Is this possible? Thanks for your help.

We have a small problem. When we upload folders or files to our server the date of timestamp what ever you want to call it, will have a date / time in the future. This doesn't happen to all the files. Does anybody know what we can do about this? Maarten M.
