I am installing a Windows 2003 std server on a dell 2950 system. Brand New from Dell, and I am using their software to load. Everything went fine with the install and the software loaded without incident. I patched the system fully with MS patches. Everything was great until I went to configure the server for AD as a member server on a domain with 2003 std (R1). First thing that happend is this release is R2 and the other releases on the other two servers are R1 release that is fully patched. The first thing it errored out was I got a message stating that the Schema wasn't compatable between the this version R2 and the other R1 and that I had to run…

ActiveSync, IIS, ISA2006 + WM5
by Guest Chris- 0 replies

Hi, Let me first describe the scenario: We have a server2003 server running Exchange and OWA and OMA for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. IIS is running the Exchange but all as HTTP, i.e. not HTTPS secured. We have a 2nd server2003 server running ISA2006. This has a published rule that forwards all HTTP traffic for the Windows Mobiles to our exchange server. Everything is running as HTTP including IIS, Windows Mobile and the ISA publish server rule. We'd like to make this more secure, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. I think using certificates is the best idea so far, but it's where we install the certificates and how. I believe certific…

My Windows 2003 web server is showing a very steady amount of action on Port 1028 and Port 135. The Process is listed as "Unknown" with a PID of 0 The Local IP is 127.0.0.1 The Remote IP is 127.0.0.1 The Remote Port is either 1028 or 135 The State is "TIME_WAIT" The Protocol is TCP Here is a screen shot: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g38/FFCus/1028-135.jpg The path to the executable is blank. At any given time there are at least 20 active processes of this. The virus scan says all is well. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what this is all about?

I have a DC that is currently running 2003 standard OS. I want to upgrade it to Enterprise. All other DCs are running 2003 enterprise. I would think I could simply do an os upgrade without disrupting AD. Can I just run the os upgrade or do I have do DCpromo to remove it from AD, upgrade os, and DCpromo it back? thank you Mitch

Hi, I am trying to get some help in terms of decommisioning an existing domain controller which runs the secondary DNS zone. 1) My question is do I uninstall AD first or do I need to remove/delete the secondary DNS zone from the server. My thinking is that I need to uninstall AD first, then delete/remove DNS. 2) how do I delete/remove secondary zone DNS ? Do i right click the zone and press the delete button. Regards

I notice some post on partitioning the hard drive for Active Dirtory as follows:- With 2 Hard Disks, that is pretty much your only option, but things can be partitioned like this: 6GB C OS 1024b sectors 1GB D Swap 64kb sectors 2GB E NTDS 64kb sectors 2GB F NTDSlog 64kb sectors 2GB G Sysvol 512b sectors 6GB H Logs + Backup 64kb sectors 1GB Free Space http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.win2000.active_directory/browse_thread/thread/85edf933ad940a85/5e78caeeb93e50ec?hl=en&lnk=st&q=partitions+active+directory+os&rnum=5#5e78caeeb93e50ec How are the sectors sizes determined for optimum performance? AD password syncing, replication, & Exchange
by Guest Chad Bailey- 1 reply

Here's the problem.... We have one 2003 domain spread over multiple physical sites. Each site is connected to the main site by WAN links and has a local domain controller. The main office site has an Exchange server which hosts all client mailboxes, including the ones for the remote site users. The problem we have is with password synchronization timing. For example, if a user's password expires and they have to change it on their client, and they are in the home site where the Exchange server is located, there are no issues. BUT!... if a user at one of the remote sites changes their password, the synchronization is such in AD across the remote link…

ad prep fix question
by Guest locc- 3 replies

the question is refering to the following http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2003_adprep_fix_for_e2k.htm I don't know if I need the fix or not, but will it hurt anything if I do run this fix? In other words, I can run this without actually needing the fix and it will have no ill effects on the domain. I am currently in a 2000 domain, with one DC and several member servers and an exchange server. Basically from what I read and researched apply adprep fix. run adprep /forestprep run adprep /domainprep join 2003 server and run dcpromo demote 2000 dc join 2nd 2003 server and install exchange move mailboxes from old exchange to new exchange Please let …

Hi all Windows 2003 AD Formerly, I could type in the partial name of a printer when using the add printer wizard from any XP/Vista client The names no longer appear - I now have to browse the printer server to see all attached printers and add them manually. Is there something I am missing or a setting that needs to be enabled? Your comments would be greatly appreciated Ian McCulloch Sydney, NS Canada

AD Printer Migration between Servers
by Guest google@buckl.co.uk- 2 replies

I'm trying to migrate my printers to a new server which has a different name. I've done this but all the clients appear to reference the old server explicitly rather then just printer to PRINTERNAME on AD. Is this the norm? I'd assumed that if I downed the old server the clients would pick up the same AD name and print to the new server. Any help much appreicated. Steve

AD Problems after Domain Rename
by Guest EricMill- 5 replies

Hopefully someone can help with this, I just finished performing a domain rename operation in a lab environment. I want to be sure of myself before completing the operation on a live server, so I started a new domain rename on the same domain that I had just renamed. However, I am no longer able to run DSQUERY within the domain. The command will not finish, it will not return any errors or messages of any kind. I tried several times, even tried removing and adding the control station back onto the domain. Still getting the same problem. It sounds to me like Active Directory got messed up during the operation the previous time, but I'm not sure of thi…

AD Restore
by Guest a3matrix@gmail.com- 5 replies
Greetings to the group: I am looking at doing an AD restore from tape from last December not for the purposes of rolling back the current environment, but because we need data of some type that is no longer available. Is it possible to perform an authoritative restore of the system state to a DC then unplug that DC from the network so it can't replicate and wind up with a DC with AD on it as it was last December? Rather than squeeze the trigger and wind up finding out the (possibly) really bad way, I thought I would read up and also ask others. So far, the reading has not given me a warm fuzzy. TIA Drew

AD Site Links - What Ports?
by Guest Chris White- 3 replies
Hi, Soon we are setting up a remote office. I have played around with Site Links on the internal network, and also currently use it live for DFS File Servers, and setting their priority (Primary and Redundant etc.) via Site costing. But I have never used this for external site linking. What ports are required on the ADSL modems to allow connectivity with each server? We are not creating any new domains, just adding a additional domain controller in the new office then linking it. Thanks in advance. -- Chris White United Kingdom

AD system state backup on Windows 2008, disk size increasing
by Guest Augusto Alvarez- 1 reply

Hello everyone, I've been working lately with Windows Server 2008 RTM version, and I promoted one server (virtual machine) as a DC. After having some obstacles configuring the AD system state backup I finally completed and I had a schedule backup running periodically. That backup storage is made on a seconday disk on the DC, but I found out that the system state backup catalog it's getting real big in a few weeks, meaning that the VM disk is increasing as well (over 25gb right now). Is there any way that I can have more control about that? Like accessing the system state catalog and removing old system state backups? Basically I don't want to get…

ADAM Attributes

I'm setting up an ADAM instance on a 2003 server. I've set it to synch with AD, but I'm wondering how to limit what attributes are transfered from AD to ADAM? This ADAM instance will be in a DMZ, and I'd rather not copy all AD attributes to it.

Adaptec 29230LPE on 2003 Server 64Bit
by Guest dwhagerman- 0 replies

Any others running the above hardware. We have the following.. Supermicro SuperServer 6025B-URB with the latest BIOS using an Adaptec 29230LPE SCSI card that is attaching a Quantum LTO 200/400GB tape drive. The server motherboard and SCSI card both have the latest BIOS updates, and Adaptec only offers 1 driver for 64Bit. When the driver loads, random reboots happen, as well as blue screens on shutdown. Adaptec is "looking into the problem", but this has been going on for about 3 weeks now, and I need to get the tape drive back up and running! Just curious if any others run the above combo, and if they have any problems (mostly wondering about the combo of t…
