System Center Essentials - System Unknow
by Guest MarcusB- 2 replies
I could not find news group dedicated to the system center Essentials therefore I am asking in the Server group. We installed system center Essentials and next Service Pack 1. The server itself is shown as System unknown. The agents on the clients install without any problem but for two days the state is "not yet contacted". Where to look for the problem? MarcusB

Home Folders Question
by Guest teddkilroy- 2 replies
Elementary Question for some, trying to move home folders from a 2003 Server to a NetApp. I have created a share called Users and plan to use the %username% so that the original folder can be created (many users). The problem is using the UNC path \\server\share\%username% they end up at the root of the share and can browse to their home folder. I am trying to eliminate that. I have try this on a teest account. Seeking solutions as to I can fix my path in their profiles so that all they can access is what is in their home folder. Thanks to those that respond.

Disk perf counters. Avg Queue Lenght and Disk Time.
by Guest Mike- 0 replies

I have noticed that consistently the value for Average Disk Queue Length is 1% of the value of % Disk Time. Both physical and logical disk counters are on. I have checked this on several systems with and without RAID disks. Can anyone comment on this?

auto-migrate printers from 1 print server to another ?
by Guest Jeff- 1 reply
I have 3 Windows 2000 domain controllers: 1.) print server / dns server 2.) file server / dns server 3.) dhcp server unfortunately my print server crashed (hardware error). I was able to rebuild all printers on the file server, and instructed users to delete current printers, and add new printers from new print server. After repairing the original print server, and everything is running back to normal, is there a way or script I can use to change the user's printers ?: from \\newserver\printer1 to: \\oldserver\printer1 the share names are identical on both servers. thanks Jeff

Roaming Profiles and Internet History
by Guest Bullfrog- 2 replies
Recently we started changing people over to roaming profiles. One of the things we lost was the Local Settings, as this is not copied over. Previously, if there was an issue with someone spending too much time on internet, we could look in their Local Settings to see where they went. Now we can't. Is there a way to keep this? Everyone is directly connected to the Internet through a router. Servers are all 2003 and all clients are XP. I have googled, but there isn't much out there that helps (unless I am just looking in wrong place.) Thanks!

XP SP3 issues for net admins
by Guest Newell White- 0 replies
Since installing this via WSUS all our XP workstations are configured to start SMTP Service and IIS Admin Service automatically. Note that Outlook does not require this service. I notice that the majority of them are also running the Web Publishing Service automatically. This may be a legacy of how my predecessor set them up, or it may also be SP3 related. Are any of you having the same experience? -- Newell White

DNS issue Network bootdisk and 2003 domain
by Guest contactdellthornhill@gmail.com- 6 replies

I have a network bootdisk that worked perfect a week ago. Basically, when I try to authenticate with the server, I get the "You were logged on, but have not been validated by a server" error. Upon investigation, I can ping IPs but not names. Here's the kicker; I started a packet capturing utility (wireshark) on both DNS servers (primary/secondary) and I can see ping requests come if I ping their IPs, but when I ping their names I don't see any name resolution requests. I'm not filtering any data except source IP in Wireshark. So that tells me that the DNS request is never leaving the computer. Which means that A) I have an improper configuration setting…

roaming profile to remote desktop access
by Guest lenny- 4 replies

Hi, We have a server with a Terminal Services Server. Everybody in the office has a login name and password on this and they log onto any PC in the office and Remote Desktop onto their terminal services desktop. One PC was originally setup with a roaming profile and that one person now seems to be working far slower than all the other users (accessing data and loading databases etc.) I think this is due to a huge profile. I would like to convert this user to the same as everybody else (Just a basic Remote Desktop Logon without being a roaming profile) but don't really know what to do and am also afraid of loosing all her data and settings. Any suggesti…
