On 1 DC the sysvol folder is not replicated.
by Guest Frederik- 1 reply

Hi, We have 3 domain controllers, in a mixed environment: DC1: WIN2003 + DNS +DHCP DC2: WIN2000 DC3: WIN2000 + PRINTSERVER The sysvol folder (with the domain policies) are replicating without problems between DC1 and DC2. But when we change something on DC1&DC2 then DC3 will not replicate. When we change someting on DC3, it replicates to DC1&DC2. I've searched solutions on the internet, and It could be a dns problem. But in my opnion we have no problems with our dns server. I executed netdiag and dcdiag on DC3 with the following results; DCDIAG --------- Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Done gathering …

Win SVR 2008 standard X64 machine shutting down without warning
by Guest Andrew Hodgson- 1 reply

Hi all, I have just promoted our first W2k8 DC on the network. This was going well until the following morning, when at around 09:00 it decided to shut itself off. There was no warning about this, and it was as if the system had crashed, because although there was no blue screen, the console was displaying nothing, and nothing was happening on the machine at all. We rebooted it, after holding the power button for around 5 seconds, and we were asked whether we wanted to start Windows normally, or in safe mode etc. We choose normal, and everything comes back up fine. There is nothing in the event viewer, apart from a couple of warnings about the network t…

Hello there, I am getting the error 6161 on my W2K server print server, once in a while it does not print the jobs sent by the clients, or printing blank pages, I need to restart spooler. I updated my printer drivers recently. See error below "The document failed to print on printer Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 912716. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 119." I am using XeroxXpdPrint processor, data type raw. I use TCPIP printing with protocol Raw selected, not LPR. Usually printer is a Xerox machine but it also affects D…

TS User Home Directory and Folder redirection
by Guest Robert Wegner- 1 reply

Hi everybody, when i set the TS User Home Directory via GPO (Win Server 2003), how can i make the GPO- folder redirections (Startmenue, Desktop, User Data) to this directory? The TS User Home Directory will be created like "\\server\share\USERNAME.DOMAIN". So i tried %homeshare%, %Homepath%, and "\\server\share\%username%.%userdomain%" but it wont work. Is there another way? The reason is (maybe theres a totally different way, i haven't thought of yet): I've got a Win2003 Terminalserver environment with users from different domains on different locations. The all got a normal (not TS) homedirectory set in their AD-user object. It gets automatically mapped to …

Task Scheduler & Event Logs
by Guest Brad Baker- 1 reply

We'd like to have some way of recording when scheduled tasks run in the windows event log (application/system doesn't really matter which). It would appear windows does not do this by default. Is there a policy somewhere to enable this? If not does anyone know of an alternate way to obtain such logging? Thanks, Brad

Remote folder options
by Guest Isaac Grover- 2 replies

Good morning from Wisconsin, We have a client company that needs to use the shared folders on their Windows Server 2003 box outside of the office using Windows Explorer on Windows XP Professional SP2, as several of the employees travel away from the office often. We don't need to set up an expensive VPN, and I have been looking at using WebDAV, but we've never worked with this technology before. Are there issues with WebDAV that we need to be aware of, or are there other better options available? -- Isaac Grover, Owner Quality Computer Services of River Falls, Wisconsin Web: http://www.qcs-rf.com

Group policy errors
by Guest Chris Ferraro- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 SP2 Small Business server. I am experiencing the error below every time group policy processing runs. I see it in the event log every 5 minutes. I enabled userenv logging and noted the error "GetUserNameEx failed with 14" at the same time. I determined that the error 14 referenced here is "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". There is sufficient storage available. I found references to excessive group membership causing this issue, but I don't have very many groups available and no user should be a member of very many. I performed the steps listed in Q article 937535, but these steps did not make a d…

How do I... ? (please read inside)
by Guest Cynyster- 1 reply

I have recently migrated all my user accounts to our parent company's Domain and I have retired the last of the domain controllers from the domain to be retired. Now the only remnant of the old domain is the retired domain still shows as an available domain in the login dialog. My question is how do I remove the listing of the retired domain from the available domains when people log into their systems? Thanks for any help.

Is it possible to progrmatically detect if a "service role" has been installed for a service. In my case I want to know if the "Windows Authentication" role has been installed for the "Web Server(IIS)" role. TIA
