HELP!! Cannot Find Domain When Logging on to Windows Server 2003 R
by Guest binarydaddy- 11 replies

Morning, I have a client who we took over 3 months ago that was having issues with their old server with WinSvr2003 and Exchange 2003. Previous consultant setup their Local Disk as a 9GB partition and it became full soon after we took over the account. We recommended resizing the partition with a server grade partitioning app. However, they decided rather than doing that or reformatting and restoring backups, they would buy new server. Did not have discs for Windows Server 2003...so they bought 2003 R2 (not for profit with limited purchasing capabilities through TechSoup). We have not done many server replacements in the past, but all have been w…

Time Sync - Multiple Time Zones
by Guest Dragon- 4 replies

Hi, I have a bit strange question. I have this application that is hard coded for a particular time zone. So the server has to be set to this time zone. All my other servers are on local timezone. My problem is that I would like to sync time on all my servers. So if my application server is set to EST and my local timezone is PST, I want both server to say the local time of 10AM instead of having both servers 3 hours apart because of the time zone. So, is there any script, batch file, utility etc that I can use to force this time sync? I also want to make sure that I can force-sync a server even if its time is off by months. Thanks.

So after running ADprep /forestprep, you need to run /domainprep on each infrastructure master for each domain? Even if you are only going to add a 2003 DC to one of the domains? Thanks

We have 1 server that is a domain controller/exchange server that has some folders that need to be shared for client access. I setup a mapped network drive to this shared folder on a windows vista client computer and set it to auto login each time he reboots with the admin credentials. However each time he reboots it requires him to manually put in the admin user name and PW. How do we get around this problem without joining his computer to the domain? We obviously don’t want to give out the admin login info to every user and they are hesitant to add them to the domain because they take there laptops home each night and don’t want any problems with the…

Hijacking Remote Desktop (RDP) session
by Guest Kenneth Porter- 2 replies

How can I connect to an existing Administrator session on my Win2003 server? I know I have 3 available sessions, including the /console session. If two sessions are disconnected, I expect to get the session selection dialog. But I'd sometimes like to be able to grab a session I'd left connected from another workstation. For example, I start using a program from my office, then walk across the building and want to resume what I was working on from another station. XP has a single session, so if I try to connect to a workstation that's already connected and use the same credentials, I'll get the same session. I'd like to be able to do the same with the 3 …

by Guest ghillard- 3 replies

I have a Windows 2003 server (HP DL360 G5) which I have upgraded from Standard Edition to Enterprise R2. I have installed 32GB RAM in the server but Windows only recognizes 3.25GB. The Bios on the server recognizes all 32GB. I have added the /PAE switch to the boot.ini file but still Windows only sees 3.25 GB. Have I missed something? Thank you in advance for your help. Greg

On W2K Server you had to configure the registry to allow null sessions in order for a program or local service account on another computer in to access a shared folder. How is this accomplished on Windoes 2003 server? Do you configure the share to allow anonymous logins?

I have server 03 running and having a problem with my RMS. I cannot not get any of the MP3,MP4 or PSP to be recognized anymore. There used to be no problem with the scandisks, now the only thing working is flash drive. has been like this almost a week. I cannot figure out what has happened. Only other time anything close to this has occured my GUID did not recognize my 5in1 reader. I fixed that. Ran that fix for this and nothing. For some devices I get a letter (M) showing connected but no name/type. It could be related to REAL player, my daughter uses it with the MP players. But I have no idea why it worked and then stopped. is the possible error US…

network neighborhood

Hi, How do I clean all the extraneous mappings listed in network neighborhood. I'm not sure how those get listed individually. It seems if you go to delete them, it wants to actually delete all the files, and all I want to do is remove the listings of the drives in network neighborhood. I can't actually figure out the reason they are showing up. Some machines I have show more of these listings than others. I must be missing something here - mental block... --Randy Starkey

Installing Windows Server 2003 on an XP machine not working
by Guest dhurwitz- 2 replies

Hi, I have a Dell 390 which is currently running XP sp2. I am trying to install Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard on it. I understand this must be a clean install and not an upgrade, which is fine. My hope was to format Drive C as part of the install. I have tried two approaches, both failed. First, I tried installing directly from the MSDN DVD. Setup ran fine, but after trying to start Windows, it gave a blue screen of death. Then, I burnt a CD from the downloaded ISO image file, and booted the machine from that CD. Setup runs, loading all the files, then gives a screen which says it cannot find any hard disk drives and cannot proceed. Any suggesti…

Hi, I'm having an issue using WMI to stop/start a service. I have two domains, domain1 and domain2, domain1 is where the user account and the Desktop I'm currently using is located. Domain2 is where the target Server is located. The Desktop PC in domain1 is using Windows XP Pro SP2, the Server PC in domain2 is using Windows Server 2003 SP2. There is a two way trust setup between domain1 and domain2. The user account in domain1 is a member of the Administrators group in Domain2 and is also a local administrator on the Server PC. On the Desktop in domain1 I'm running a powershell script that retrieves the WMI object for a service and then attempts to …

by Guest Pintu- 1 reply

Hi, I have mutiple servers that are hosted. This is a Domian environment. There are 3 Terminal servers with 3 Static IPs and three internal IPs. All the servers works fine except one. The server seems to be freezing up every 6- 8 hrs. During that time I see a W32Time error. Could the Time service error (not able to connect to time server) be causing the freeze up? Also, during the freeze up - I cannot log into server - I see the following error in the event logs "This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon reque…

Hello, I have setup an FTP Site using IIS6.0 and can access the site using IE7. I have disabled 'Allow anonymous connections' and added a user to allow FTP access to files. When I login to the FTP server via IE7 with the dedicated username I can see my files but if I right-click a file and 'Save Target As' I receive an error message 'Login request was denied'. However, if I open the file as normal it will open it up in a web browser. I believe I have my permissions setup right. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks Wayne -- MCP

I have been having the same blue screen/ error code. Started when moving large quantity of files from 2nd physical drive(E) to 2nd partition of primary drive(D). did a restore problem seemed to split. Happened again much later doing same thing + crashed all restore points. Problem now persists. I'm just a hack, but the only answer I found at Microsoft was to replace drive. CHKDSK /R & /I functions also cause crashes (on D: only). can transfer from D: but transfering to D: causes crashes opening pic files on D: crashes at various time intervals My gut answer is the NTFS file structure has problems with newly created bad sectors my current test- ha…
