I have a 2 node custered sql server 2005 and 2 web servers, all using windows 2003. The database servers are behind a firewall. I am using DTCPing to check if I am able to do DTC. When I launch DTCPing I always get an error on the log file: Platform:Windows 2003 cluster environment detected: Reading MSDTC settings from local registry: Windows 2003 environment is detected: Reading MSDTC settings from local registry: Open DTC root key failure: error(2) What could posibly be causing this?

Are the Pop Ups at Windows Server 2008 always so unimposing? I wanted to share a folder and was waiting for several minutes till I saw by pure chance that my desktop has had opened a new task...but just in the taskbar...without any blinking... After several other attempts i recognized that was the normal cycle. Is that new or just a mistake?

I have a 2003 Server Std R2 SP2. I installed terminal server and terminal server licensing server. I activated the terminal server licensing server and add 5 TS Per User CALs. My users have not reported any issues and all appears to be well. Except when I open the Terminal Server Licensing console and look at my server none of the Per User CALs are "Issued"; even though I have 3 users terminaled into the system. The TS Licensing console still shows 5 total and 5 available CALs. I looked around on the internet and found information that said this was a known issue. That per user cal is new to 2003 server and in a rush release 2003 MS was aware of this issue…

by Guest lenny- 1 reply

Hi, I am sure this is easy but I am unable to work out how to do it so any advice is greatly appreciated. I have SBS Standard Edition and Windows 2000 SP4 with Exchange 5.5 installed. I am also using VPOP3. I would like to forward emails that come into that domain to the user at another email address that is outside the network (e.g. name@hotmail ). I have tried to setup a new contact on the server but it will not allow the same name and when I do set one up it Exchange doesn't 'see' it.

Folder Redirection in Mixed Environment XP\Vista
by Guest lca1630- 3 replies

Hello, I have been tasked with how to handle folder redirection in what is a soon to be mixed environment and then eventually just a Vista environment. At this time we have XP clients, that have their My Documents folder redirected to user work spaces located on one of our servers. I am having trouble wrapping my brain around how to combat the new user profile structure in Vista and how to make a seemless migration between the two OS's. For instance in this first upgrade wave, I need to recreate the folder redirection on the upgraded vista machines to mirror what we already have but in Vista terms: My Documents vs Documents folder etc. Any advice wou…

Deactivate Data Execution Prevention
by Guest arno- 5 replies

Hello, I have a Win 2003 R2 SP3 Terminal Server, DC and Printserver is a Win2003 SBS. The Terminal Server stops working because of some problems with the spooler service. I would like to know if I can deactivate "Data Execution Prevention" by setting it from "only neccessary windows programs and services" to "all programs/services with exceptions" (sorry, translated from german). I am not sure what services/programs are monitored before and after the change. Also the result is not clear. Currently, our programs stop responding until I start the spooler service, however, what will happen after the change - bluescreens? I know that the cause of the…

Adding 3rd DC
by Guest JVH- 1 reply

Brief History: I've inherited 1 DC (2003) that freezes every few days requiring a restart and another DC (also 2003)that does absolutely nothing when the first one goes down. (DC2 had might as well be a member server.) Our Exchange server (2000) looks to DC1 and DC2 to authenticate users in our site and distant sites. So 500+ users can't access their email when DC1 freezes and DC2 does nothing. I brought another DC (DC3) online today and see no replication errors - using replmon. DC1 is FSMO, DNS, and DHCP server. DHCP If DC1 goes down - or if I remove and rebuild it - it will not be available to hand out IP's. My instincts tell me to create a DHCP scope …

How to setup dual gateways for a single server?
by Guest Simon White- 1 reply

Hi I have VPN router (Juniper Networks SSG-5) for VPN traffic and a regular router for non-vpn traffic. I would like my Win2003 server to forward all IP traffic destined for 10.144.0.0 to the VPN router and all other destination to the regular gateway. Can some one tell me how this can be done. The VPN has to be available 24x7 and is not cannot be something the users must activate first. It must just be available all the time for applications trying to communicate with devices in the 10.144.0.0 range. The VPN exists only between the VPN router and the a CISCO router in Bell Telephone's data centre. Thanks, Simon
