Another DST question
by Guest Art Frank- 2 replies

I noticed that my Windows 2000 server did not change time zones on Sunday (3/9/08) from PST to PDT. So, I thought it wasn't properly patched, and I went to Microsoft to follow their instructions (KB914387) for W2K systems. I used tzedit to edit the timezone, and low and behold, the timezone setting was ALREADY CORRECT (2nd Sunday in March). However, the time was still PST and not PDT. According to MS, after editing the time zone, you should change the time zone then change it back to re-load the time zone database. I did that, and the server's time was then correct. My question: Why did I have to do that? (I had to do the same thing with a stray …

Managing Logon Servers
by Guest Joe- 3 replies

Is there anyway to specify in active directory or through a Group Policy which Logon servers computers can logon to. Let me explain the situation, we have a single domain and 2 offices connected by a VPN. The main office has about 10 servers (2 AD Servers, Exchange, and various app servers) with 140 users while the remote office has about 20 users and 3 servers (2 AD Servers and a fileserver). we are running into speed issues when some of our servers at the main office are using the AD boxes across the VPN as logon servers. Speeds just crawl and i eventually have to reboot and hope the server uses the correct Logon servers. Does anyone have any idea…

DST time change
by Guest Micah- 3 replies
I am running Server 2003 standard and my computers and some servers are changing the time to 1 hour more i.e. current time is 9:20am and most machines in the office change to 10:20am. The only way to get individual computers on the network to have the correct time is to uncheck the "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes" and they roll back 1 hour to the correct time. My main PDC stays correct but my other (2) servers switch time. Does anyone know what I need to do to correct this issue. I spent all day yesterday trying to figure this one out. Thanks

Daylight Savings Time issue
by Guest caltex67- 1 reply

I have a mixed mode domain (1) 2000 Server Domain Controller and the rest are 2003 Server. My PDC emulator is a 2003 Server and its time remains correct after adjusted for DLS. My 2000 Server DC, and both of my 2003 DCs continue to reset their time to pre-daylight savings time, which renders them one hour behind. I edited the registries of the affected servers by going to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters and modifying the ntpserver string to point to the PDC emulator whose time is correct. They still reset themselves after about 20 or 30 minutes. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to log into file server
by Guest r. wales- 8 replies

I have a file server that has become unresponsive to ctrl-alt-del. It is functioning normally in all other aspects. I could not connect using remote desktops, but I do not usually log in this way so I am not sure if it is set up to allow it. I came in this morning and hit ctrl-alt-del as usual. The screen saver stopped but the log in window never appeared. How can I get back into this machine? I do not want to have to use the reset button if I can possibly avoid it. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I had recently installed Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 64 bits with latest service pack(SP2) trial as I did not have the original CD with me at that moment. Now when I try to activate the product with the Origial CD and Serial I'm not prompted with an Upgrade option but only with a New Installation option. Please do suggest as this upgrade would dearly help in saving precious time. Regards, Derek Desouza Systems Engineer UNYDYNE Systems Pte. Ltd. Is it safe to move the DLLCACHE folder off my system partition, if I change the registry entries indicated below. I found the below instructions for doing this on Windows 2000 but I need confirmation that it is okay to do this in Windows Server 2003. Need to free up some disk space. TIA, .. By default, the DLL cache is stored in \%systemroot%\system32\dllcache. To move the DLL cache, complete the following steps: 1. Start the registry editor (regedt32.exe not regedit.exe). 2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. 3. From the Edit menu, select Add Value. 4. Set the name to SFCDllCacheDir and the type to …

I have IE Enhanced Security Configuration disabled on a particular server. I have also added a particular URL to the Trusted Sites in Internet Options Security. However, I get a 404 error when I try to access the site from any workstation or the server. I can reach Yahoo from within the LAN and the particular URL externally from the LAN, but not internally. Mystery slow downs.
by Guest kalukaley- 0 replies

Several times a day our users ( not always the same users, and not always the same servers) will experience what they think is Microsoft Word hanging. We use automation to auto-generate MS Word documents. What we later found out was that if you left the process alone, it would complete after 15 - 20 minutes. This process normally takes about 30 seconds to run!!! We've noticed that when this is occurring, Internet Explorer also crawls to a halt. The other apps are still responding normally as far as I've been able to determine. Our users are using WYSE terminals to Log into a Citrix Environment (Presentation Server 4.0). This is all running on …

Invalid Color Profile

I have a windows 2003 server standard edition SP2 print server that is giving error messages when you try to update print drivers. This seems to occur on many models and it is not related to printer driver version; the same drivers work on another identical server. Here is what happens: If you try to update or install a newer printer driver (Printers..Server Properties...Drivers tab OR Update Driver on the printer), I can walk through the entire process until the last step. When you hit Finish, it begins to copy the newer files to the server. It then errors, saying "specified color profile is invalid". It then returns you to the Finish screen. You must can…

I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 server that is attached to an EMC CLARiiON using (2) Emulex LPe11000-E fiber channel HBAs. I have loaded the latest drivers and firmware for the HBAs (drv=5-2.01A4, fw=2.72A2) I have also installed KB932755 for updates to STORPort. However I'm still experiencing slow write speeds to LUNs on the CLARiiON. The LUN in question is made up of (9) 146Gb 10k RPM Fiber Channel drives. When performing a write operation whether it be a copy from Windows or some type of backup to disk the speed is slow and I have also discovered that the Disk Bytes per Write are maxed out at 65292 bytes (64Kb) which I thought was a limitation e…

I was trying to write a simple batch script to automate an admin process. However whenever I try to use the %DATE% variable, it puts a space after the actual date. so if I did this [h]MKDIR I:\system\%DATE%\code\com[/h] in a batch script it would try and write out the command like: MKDIR I:\system\03112008 \code\com ...see the space after the date? I can't figure out how to get this to stop. Any clues? Thanks!

I have built a new Windows 2003 IAS server and configured Wireless Authentication (802.1X). I followed the TechNet documentation "Securing Wireless LANs with Certificate Services". I have a test laptop which has a Wireless Group Policy applied, I confirmed the wireless policy settings are applied to the laptop, the user and computer certificates were enrolled and installed. A Linksys WRT300N has been configured as the Wireless Access Point and has the relevent Radius server settings applied. The problem is that the laptop attempts to connect to the Access Point, it connects and then within seconds it disconnects, it attempts a reconnect several t…

Well, I know, is missing 0,87gb :D but what is missing in the procedure that I followed? Thank you.

2003 R2 Quota+disk size
by Guest group policy!- 0 replies

Hi Everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong section but theres a few different topics in it. I have an server 2003 R2 setup, using the FSRM for quota on users homespaces. These quota work fine with e-mails and reports being generated. However when the user maps a network drive for their homespace instead of the drive showing their quota'd storage it shows the actual size of the physical disk on the server (the partition size where their network folder/homespace is stored). Is there a way around this? Or can a script get the actual quota applied to a folder, I don't mind if its still wrong on the mapped drive because the users can't see the drive pr…
