by Guest SPiderman- 2 replies

Hi, I am working to get a new print server built. I know the recommendation is to put the spooler directory on another partition, how much memory do you need for a high volume - critical print server? are there any other big recommendations for print servers?

print server - crashing!
by Guest SPiderman- 1 reply

Hi, I had a print server that seemed to be sending jobs to the printers but nothing would come out. I wound up moving over the printers to another server and that worked, but the problem was only with a couple of the printers and not all of them. However this has happened a couple times on this same server. Is there any way to turn up some advanced error logs or is there a good print server troubleshooting tool? I know some people have a good tool to remove drivers from the print servers and clean them up, does anyone know where to find one?

host(A) record is no longer generated automatically
by Guest vdz- 3 replies

Hi all I have noticed that on our DNS (Active-directory-Integrated), host(A) record is no longer generated automatically/dynamically, when I add a new PC to our network, I have to manually create a host(A) for this PC. DHCP setting - DNS tab: Enable DNS dynamic updates according to the settings below: Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records. Discard A and PTR records when lease is deleted No matter what I try, it won't work. it used to work well. what I have tried: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns unplug the network cable etc. Any help would be much appreciated

Lost log drive
by Guest JF- 2 replies

Hello, We have lost the array (long story) of data of our file server (2k3sp2), which contains also AD logs. I have restored all the data but active directory still does not work... I think I should restart in DS repair mode to fix it but what should I do first? Should I redefine the path of the logs(ntdsutil set path logs ...) or something else? Should I restore the AD backup I have done 12 hours ago? (I have 3 other DC's, but this one hold the master roles). Thanks for your help, JF

by Guest Akin- 1 reply

Hi All, I hav just built a small farm of server (3 Member servers and a domain controller). I have joined the servers to the domain without any problems but once the servers are joined to the domain, i cant remote desktop to them anymore besides the domain controller. All the servers are virtual servers. If i run the remote desktop client, connect to the server and i'll get to the log in screen. Once the username and the password has been entered and ok to log in clicked. The screen grays out and sits there till it gets tired and returns me to the remote desktop client without any error messages. The firewall has been enabled as required, allow remote…

Problem with DFS + subst (cmd) + rename network drive
by Guest chrbar- 0 replies
Hello, We use a DFS system to our network data (NT domain, Windows 2003). Thus instead of using "net use" to map some networks drives on the pc (Windows XP Pro SP2), we used the command "subst" (subst E: \\server\dfs_folder) in the logon script. But the substituted drives appear as "Disconnected Network Drive"! However, despite "Disconnected Network Drive", it works correctly, in the way we can access the network drive and its data. But it's a problem because users do not try to access to the data, thinking a network problem! Initially we planned to complete our script with a VBS to rename the network drive (to obtain a customized name): customi…

Windows 2003 Server Standard SP2 install problems
by Guest David- 3 replies
I am running Windows 2003 Standard Server with Service Pack 1. I am trying to update it to Service Pack 2, but have run into problems with it. I have first tried updating it via the Windows Update website, it is able to download but does not install, it comes back with an error code of 0x80242000. I have then downloaded the Service Pack and tried. It is able to go through the extraction of the files, but once it has finished, it stops and disappears and deletes the temporary folder it has created. I have checked the Task Manager to see if it is still running, but it is not. To troubleshoot this problem, I have rebooted the server and tried another basic…

Offline files and folder redirection on mixed mode AD
by Guest kapibarra- 6 replies

Hello. I've been charged with finding an automated backup system for our desktops and laptops on the network. I'm thinking that offline files used with folder redirection could be a possibility for us. I'm wondering how that might work in our network environment (right now we are running mixed mode 2000/2003 AD). I'm also wondering specifically what folder redirection does and when it does it. I've googled but not come up with any clear answer. What I mean is that when I google (for example) offline folders, I can find any number of articles telling me "when you shut down your PC on the network, offline files will sync if you choose that setting. …
