Windows Server 2008 RC1 won't upgrade to RTM - install error
by Guest Geskin- 2 replies

I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 RC1 which expires soon. I am trying to upgrade to the same flavor of the RTM. I start the install from a DVD or hard disk directory, and it tells me that the upgrade option is disabled. There are two bulleted messages. one about needing win2k3 or win2k8 server to upgrade, the second one says that c:\ProgramData must be removed or renamed. If I chose the new install option, the next page warns me that other users were logged on and that this is a problem, but it still takes me to the next dialog for choosing a partition to install on. I cancel installation here because I want to upgrade. The installation…

Hi all, I am building up a new server for our remote office. The remote office have an address of 172.19.2.X. This server will be promoted to Active Directory and Global Catalog. I like to build the server in-house (HQ) and do all configurations and promote the server with the remote office IP address, when done shipped to that office. The problem is, HQ has a different IP address, vLAN and gateway. Question is and if possible, how do I make it work by assigning the same IP address as the remote office as well as the subnet and gateway? By assigning the remote office ip address, i cannot ping HQ network and the server that I assign with the remote…

Performance Monitor Users no longer able to add or remove counters
by Guest xtopher- 5 replies

Hi there, I recently installed a bunch of windows updates on my development server. Since then only users in the Administrators group can add or remove performance counters. I realize that this is typically the case in real life, you want an administrator to do the install and only add or remove counters during an install. But I'm running a continuous integration environment with unit tests. Cruise Control runs as a service under an non-admin account and must run tests that (you guessed it) add and remove performance counters. I've been playing with the permissions on the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Perflib…

OK first of all let me apologize because I know this isn't the correct NG or even the correct forum to ask this question. However knowing that there are still some old IT dinosauers still out there I'm hoping I canfind my answer here. I have this old HP LaserJet 5si MX printer that I had setup about 8 years ago on this network. Worked fine but after a few months we purchased a new laserjet printer and the 5si sort of went unused and untouched. Anyways our new printer (not new anymore) needed to be serviced so we wanted to use the 5si temporarily. Well it didn't work. I remember a few years ago we stopped using it because it would always get a paper jam. So now al…
