"Could not locate the MS DTCXA Transaction Manager Contact Object" Event ID 4197 I have scoured the web on this error and have been unable to find anything. I'm not convinced I need the process running for my server to function properly, however, this is the only server that suffers from random lockups of my application and this is the only error in the event logs. In addition, I'm getting Event ID: 7024 in the System Log: "The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service terminated with service-specific error 3221229627 (0xC000103B)" One article I read mentioned some known issues with an older version of mtxoci.dll, I'm running version 2001.12.4720.39…

Hardware firewall recommendation...
by Guest Bobby C- 1 reply

Sorry for the lengthy intro but I wanted to make sure I covered all the bases. I run my custom software business from my home. When cable modem service became available some years ago I signed up. From the first day of cable modem service I've had my network behind a hardware firewall (currently using a Linksys broadband router which has a built in "firewall"). I've decided to consolidate all my web "services" that are hosted on outside hosting services and host them on my own, in-house server. I'm upgrading my internet connection from residential to business class (I'm a Comcast customer). The main service that I need to make available is my websit…

Hi everyone. We wish to implement a IM solution in our 2003 server / XP environment. What's the best Microsoft solution? If possible we'd like to host a Messenger server, then have users sign into it with their Active Directory accounts (or even have it pass through). Then they can do IM and see peoples status (in, out, busy) etc as needed. Regards and all advice appreciated. Shane

External Domain PCs wont browse to OWA nor Sharepoint sites
by Guest techtedg@kc.rr.com- 11 replies

We are currently running a single domain controller with exchange 2003 and sharepoint v2 both installed. We have a VPN setup. When PCs/laptops are here in the office they can access both OWA/Sharepoint without any trouble. When a domain PC is external to the local network (i.e. a site office) users CANNOT access OWA/Sharepoint sites through the std internet connection. However if i connect those same PCs/Users to the VPN they CAN access OWA/Sharepoint while they are connected, as soon as they disconnect from the VPN they lose the ability to browse to OWA/Sharepoint they just get the std "page cannot be found" error in IE. Now whats weird is if i either dis…

Sharing printer from x64 without 64-bit drivers
by Guest TurboFool- 0 replies

I'm working with a team to migrate a client over to several new servers, most of which are running Server 2003 x64. Their older servers were on x86. 90% of the project is routine and not giving us any trouble, but I'm running into issues with the printers. I'm trying to move their shares over to the new server (connecting to them via IP address) and running into issues with lack of 64-bit support by their manufacturers. Most are HP LaserJets which are working fine. But I've got a couple of Canons, Brothers, and Lexmarks that don't seem to have ANY x64 drivers in production for Server 2003 (some have Vista x64). Now I have absolutely no need to actually PRINT…

Moving DFS root from 1 server to another
by Guest Noob- 2 replies
I know that I am making this way too difficult but here is my question. I am removing an old 2003 (sp2) file server that has our root DFS (Domain based) on it. I have already moved all the files to the new 2003 (x64) server and updated the links in DFS. Now I need to move the DFS root target to the new server and keep the same name\share. Do I just create a new Root target? If this is true then when I create the new root I can't use the same name. So how do I do this? Any advice or direction would be welcome

Mysterious Mail Server problems!
by Guest Nick- 5 replies

We have a small network of 6 client pc's connected to a new 2003 SBE server. Today, for some unkown reason, we could not retreive any emails from two particular mail servers residing at our ISP. Other mail accounts we have could be retreived. We could all send emails though through SMTP on all accounts . Previously, we have had no problems, and the ISP has assured us there are no problems their end. We do not use MS Exchange (It's not installed), so we are using Outlook Express for all mail accounts on regular pop3 ISP servers. The strange thing is that the mail can be retreived from the same accounts outside the office (ie home etc), but not from our ne…
